RULES 1. Follow Guild Rules 2. At least 3 sentences per post unless it's a conversation that gives someone else something to roleplay off of 3. Do not change preset items (but do turn the fragments in the bios into sentences) 4. Korean names belong in the South District, Chinese names belong in the West District, Japanese names belong in the East District. The North District allows any kind of name (western or eastern) and no one lives in the center district. No hobos (that means YOU Agent). 5. No perfect characters, even leaders would and will get injured if they have to fight several enemies. 6. Characters cannot just "know" things. Npc characters are controlled by the leaders of their respective gang. (ex: if someone from the Hi gang suddenly ambushed someone from the Jin gang then the user who plays Bai-Hu or the highest subordinate will play the unsuspecting person) 7. Post Profiles in Profile thread. No one but Ae will be approving the profiles though 8. Absolutely NO guns. Try not to create weapons that are especially illegal as well :3 (i.e. - the person wields 2 katana swords [Ae is alright if they wield one if you give a good reason and don't go around killing tons of people], the person wields a spiked mace [big no no >O], the person wields a spear [unless they practice Naginatajutsu, in which they can wield a naginata])

Plot/Main Idea Wu Xing is a city of Asian people living in a larger American city. Due to their isolation of that city though, they have become like a city of their own. Anyone who does not live within Wu Xing is considered to be a tourist, even if they live within the city surrounding it. Many of the inhabitants of Wu Xing still cling to the Asian lifestyle and their city reflects that. Orginally built by a combination of Japanese and Chinese people, the overall layout and naming of the city was heavily debated but a young business man came along and helped the two groups reach a compromise. It is said that the business man founded the Otoyama conglomerate, but many claim it to merely be rumors. Like many Asian countries, there is a ban on the ownership of guns within Wu Xing, though that is due to the ban on guns in the state that it's located within. Even so, several gangs have risen up and are constantly fighting for territory. Though the fighting often doesn't exceed past the borders of each gang's territory, when all out war is reached, the 'God of Wu Xing' is known to stand up and create a compromise, like the business man who helped the conflicting Japanese and Chinese. Lately though, the fighting along borders has become more fierce and it seems as though the four gangs are slowly trying to monopolize the territory. The Kirin has once stepped in to equalize this, but it seems that the group's new leaders are seeking to create the same monopoly as their predecessors.

Business District The Business District is the area in the center of Wu Xing and is considered neutral territory by all of the gangs. This was decided because fights in the business district is exceedingly dangerous and several foreign business people have been killed while on business. This district has only large corporate businesses and several large hotels, along with Wu Xing's only ladder school (elementary to high school) and the most popular university. No one lives in the business district. The ladder school, Heaven's Landing Public School, welcomes students from all over the city from K-12. Though it is a decent school and there is no fee, the private school in the Eastern District is much better. The university in the Business District though, Origin Root University, is the better of the three colleges in Wu Xing. It does not have specialty majors and welcomes many people. The Business District also is supposed to be the area that the 'God of Wu Xing' and his subordinates are often located. The 'God of Wu Xing' is often a male and is always the child of the most powerful business person in the district. Depending on the person's nationality, the name used is changed: Quilin for the Chinese, Kirin for the Japanese, and Girin for the Korean. Serving under the 'God of Wu Xing' are: 1. Zi Wei 2. Tai Wei 3. Tian Shi Gate: The Eisei temple gate is located at the very heart of the city and is actually the entrance of a shrine. The word 'eisei' means eternity and permanence. The gate was named this in order to bring a long life in Wu Xing and indeed, the city is doing quite well. Symbol: The 'God of Wu Xing' and his subordinates can be easily recognized by the Yellow Dragon pendant, made of Yellow Diamond, that can be stung on a necklace, bracelet, or even charm. Because the first 'God of Wu Xing' did not want hundreds of these to be made, when the current 'God' relinquishes his position, all four pendants go to the new 'God' and whomever they choose as subordinates.

Northern District The Northern District is, of course, the district located on the north-side of Wu Xing. This district houses quite a few different mixes and people who have married someone of another race often move to this district in order to give their children a more normal life. The largest water park in Wu Xing, and possibly in the city around it, is located here as well. There is a more Americanized feel to the place and, aside from the two yakuza families that have settled in this area, the Mizu gang can be found in this area without much effort. The Mizu gang are known for their defensive moves over anything else. Their favorite kind of weapon are those without a sharp edge (lead pipes, baseball bats, etc). The first gang leader was a girl with strong roots in her japanese history, thus the subordinates were given japanese names and the leader normally takes Genbu as their recognized name, though they have been known to switch it from time to time. Aside from the regular grunts and members, Genbu has seven subordinates: 1. Kabe (Wall) 2. Oku (Rooftop) 3. Shitsu (Encampment) 4. Onna (Girl) 5. To (Dipper) 6. Ushi (Ox/Cow) 7. Sora (Void) Gate: The Sui Gate is located at the northern most part of the district and is set above the main street that tourists enter the district from the city. The gate was named after the element of the north: water. This is a symbol of the chinese and japanese workers who worked on the city, using a japanese word but using the chinese element. Ally: Ju-Jak Enemies: Seiryuu, Bai-Hu Symbol: Members of the Mizu gang always wear either a necklace or a ring with lapis lazuli on it.

Eastern District The Eastern District on the east side of Wu Xing is perhaps the most famous district. It is well known for the many successful japanese groups living within it. Though its school accepts those from other districts, the fee to merely attend the school is very high and it's harder for the poorer people to pay to go there. Aside from its school and wealth, the Eastern District has a large amount of plant life planted all around, making it harder to navigate through for the other three gangs. There is a park with tons of Cherry Blossom trees and there is a festival held there in the spring in celebration with Japan's Cherry Blossom Festival. The school in this district is, in English, Dragon's Gate Academy. Like the other school in Wu Xing, Dragon's Gate is a ladder school that goes from K-College. Each section of the academy is separated from each other but finding students of all ages hanging out in the courtyard is common. Dragon's Gate University is famous for its excellent business department and those who wish to get a business major often go there to get it. Not only is it a good place to get a business major, it's a great place to get to know the heirs of some of the most powerful businesses in Wu Xing. Aside from the single yakuza family in this district, there is the Ki gang. The Ki gang is an extremely intelligent group and the entire group takes up the top places of the school system. This gang prefers long range, throwing weapons but each knows at least two different types of martial arts that help in case they get stuck without the Jin gang. The Ki gang and the Jin gang are extremely close, especially in battle. It is rare that Seiryuu will initiate attack, though they have been known to do so every once in a blue moon. The leader of the Ki gang is called Seiryuu. Seiryuu's top seven subordinates are: 1. Kaku (Horn) 2. Kou (Neck) 3. Kon (Root) 4. Bou (Room) 5. Shin (Heart) 6. O (Tail) 7. Hiro (Winnowing basket) Gate: The Ki Gate is located at the eastern most part of the district and is set above the main street that tourists enter the district from the city. The gate was named after the element of the east: wood. This is a symbol of the chinese and japanese workers who worked on the city, using a japanese word but using the chinese element. Ally: Jin Enemies: Mizu, Hi Symbol: Similar to the 'God of Wu Xing's' symbol, the Ki gang wear jade dragon pendants on silver chain necklaces.

Southern District The Southern District in the southern part of Wu Xing is perhaps the poorest area of Wu Xing and is made up predominately of small Korean businesses. Though it is called the poorest district, the Southern District is actually doing alright. Many of its inhabitants are middle class, but there are not as many corporate giants living in the area. Aside from its bad reputation of being poor, the Southern District has large fame for having the best food in Wu Xing and many tourists from outside of Wu Xing frequent this district. The university, called Flare University in English, is a large university that is well known for its medical specialty. Its number is mainly made up of gang members of Hi and Mizu, but the unaffiliated people of the eastern and western districts often frequent this university as well. The local gang in the Southern District are those who serve under the Phoenix, Ju-Jak: the Hi gang. This gang is very well known for their heated personalities and their aggressiveness in fights. Their weapons look rather normal but are altered to be able deal damage. Some examples are sharpened steel chopsticks, which are used like throwing needles, and a fan with steel or bamboo ribs (the steel ribs can be sharpened to create a cutting edge while both can be used as a bludgeon). The leader of Hi, Ju-Jak, is often female but there have been four instances where a male was sitting in the position. The top seven subordinates of Ju-Jak are: 1. Yi (Wings) 2. Xing (Star) 3. Zhen (Chariot) 4. Gui (Ghost) 5. Jing (Well) 6. Liu (Willow) 7. Zhang (Extended Net) Gate: The Ka Gate is located at the southern most part of the district and is set above the main street that tourists enter the district from the city. The gate was named after the element of the south: fire. This is a symbol of the chinese and japanese workers who worked on the city, using a japanese word but using the chinese element. Ally: Genbu Enemies: Bai-Hu, Seiryuu Symbol: There are two symbols of the gang. The richer members wear black leather necklaces that have ruby pendants that look like a feather while the middle class and below members wear a steel bracelet that looks like a bird's talon gripping their wrist. (Ae Note: Sorry about the giant mix of japanese and chinese in this part. I don't know korean very well despite being korean and I could not find any chinese to korean to english translators that would give me a romanji meaning)

Western District The Western District is probably the least known district in Wu Xing. Aside from its wonderful peach buns, the district of chinese people remains relatively unknown to people outside of the city. This district likes to remain on its own and many of the inhabitants, aside from the gang members, rarely leave the area for any reason. The district is very closely knit together, favoring loyalty and trust from others above all else. It is very rare to see broken up families in this district, though it seems that everyone considers everyone else family. Aside from the peach buns, this district is very in martial arts and several large dojos can be found within this district. The Western District is also the area the land of the Jin gang. Jin gang members are known to possess the strength that Ki members need and often use martial arts and close combat weapons. The leader of the gang is Bai-Hu, and the title of leader usually passes through family members until the youngest member of that family chooses someone else to take up the title. The top seven subordinates of Bai-Hu are: 1. Mao (Hairy Head) 2. Kui (Legs) 3. Shen (Three Stars) 4. Wei (Stomach) 5. Zi (Turtle Beak) 6. Bi (Net) 7. Lou (Bond) Gate: The Kou Gate is located at the western most part of the district and is set above the main street that tourists enter the district from the city. The gate was named after the element of the west: metal. This is a symbol of the chinese and japanese workers who worked on the city, using a japanese word but using the chinese element. (Ae Note: The Kou Gate should not be confused with the Ki subordinate Kou. They may look exactly the same but the kanji for them is different) Ally: Seiryuu Enemies: Ju-Jak, Genbu Symbol: The members of Jin wear a tiger's claw that's attached to a woven black leather necklace. Though it's supposed to be a necklace, some members have gotten creative and turned it into a bracelet, hair tie, and even an anklet.

The Godai User: Aerene Appearance: Name: Rui Otoyama Nationality: Japanese-American Gender: Male Age: 17 Height: 203.2 cm (80 in) Build: Tall with Long Legs Gang: ---- Rank: Kirin Family: Father, Mother (divorced, American), Older Brother (21, Actor), Older Twin Sister (17, Student) Weapon: Fists/Knuckles Job: ---- (Helps out at the Conglomerate) School Rank: HS Year 2, Rank 1, Dragon's Gate High School Bio: Rui is the incredibly intelligent heir of the Otoyama Conglomerate, as well as being the Kirin of Wu Xing. Because of business strains, his father and mother divorced when he was very young, his mother taking his twin sister when she left her ex-husband for good. Both of his siblings have bright blonde hair, compared to his more asian originated hair. The divorce from his wife did not seem to hinder the boy's father, but when Rui's older brother, Eiri, left on his own to pursue his own dreams as an actor, the family seemed to halt for a short while. While the man tried to get his son to come back to be the heir, the situation ended with Eiri being disowned and Rui becoming the sole heir to the conglomerate, as well as the rank of Kirin. It is the entire life of problems that has brainwashed Rui into believing that there are no such things as friends, family, trust, nor love. The only person he has kept close to himself is Seiryuu, whom he treats better than most but still heavily believes is going to stab him in the back. The boy dislikes most people though he will treat everyone as courteously as they treat him. He is not known for his violent temper though if Eiri is even mentioned around him, he will snap on whomever uttered the name. Rui is extremely popular in the school and out with girls wanting to be with him and guys wanting to be him. He was even elected Vice President, though they would have elected him President had he not given a little protest to the matter. Though he's Vice President and rank one in Dragon Gate's high school section, Rui rarely shows up to class. He has a photographic memory that allows him to see something only once before remembering it. Even in the business world he is extremely popular, working with his father when he's asked to. Though he has been told that he has a knack for business, he has absolutely no interest in it. Though he has the necklace of the Yellow Dragon, it is rarely around his neck, being stored in his pants pocket. His face is famous enough throughout the city to be recognized immediately as the Kirin. He is not supposed to pick a specific gang as the Kirin but many believe that Seiryuu will always come out on top as long as Rui is Kirin. User:Appearance:Name:Nationality: (make him mixed) Gender: Male Age:Height:Build:Gang: Mizu Rank: Genbu Family: Father (deceased), Mother (Korean), (add siblings if you wish but no older brothers) Weapon:Job:School Rank: Year/Grade, Rank, Heaven's Landing High School Bio: leader of Mizu and one of the Yakuza families in the North District. father was killed at age 14. star of a sports team of your choosing. very protective of mother User:Appearance:Name:Nationality: Japanese Gender: Male Age:Height:Build:Gang: Ki Rank: Seiryuu Family: Father, Mother, (add siblings if you so wish) Weapon:Job:School Rank: Year/Grade, Rank: 2, Dragon's Gate High School Bio: from oldest and richest family in Wu Xing. became leader at age 9. has photographic memory but not as good as the Kirin's. President of Dragon's Gate High. User:Appearance:Name:Nationality: Korean Gender: Female Age:Height: 154.9 cm (61 in) Build:Gang: Hi Rank: Ju-Jak Family: Mother (deceased), Father (deceased), Grandmother, (add more family if you so wish) Weapon: Tessen (Fan) Job:School Rank: Year/Grade, Rank, Heaven's Landing High School Bio: mother died during childbirth. father committed suicide due to huge debts and a failed business. aunts and uncles passed her and/nor siblings around until grandparent(s) took them in. User: Aerene Appearance: (She dyes her hair a dirty blonde -pict- but her actually hair color is 5 shades more brown) Name: Li-Yin Xiang Nationality: Chinese Gender: Female Age: 16 Height: 175.3 cm (69 in) Build: Tall and Slim Gang: Jin Rank: Bai-Hu Family: Mother (deceased), Father, Older Brother (26, Doctor), Older Brother (22, Dentist), Older Brother (18, Business Major, 2nd Year) Weapon: Neko-Te (Cat Claws), Kung Fu Job: Job-For-Hire School Rank: HS Year 1, Rank: 4, Heaven's Landing High School Bio: Li-Yin was born with the intention of growing up like a normal girl in a middle-class family. However, her mother died 6 months after her birth due to heart failure. As a result, she didn't get much female influence growing up. She did not even have a female teacher until the third grade and her first female friend until her second year in secondary school. During her first year of secondary school, Li-Yin joined the local gang (Jin), which was headed by the youngest of her brothers, Shun. Had she not been so close to Shun, she probably would have never joined Jin or gained the title of Bai-Hu. It is also Shun's influence that she hates her other brothers, who attended Flare University in enemy territory. She gained her title during her final year in secondary school, when her brother quit the gang in order to focus on his studies. Her first encounter with any of the other leaders was during her second year in secondary school, when she caught sight of the Kirin and Seiryuu, whom would eventually become her ally. The girl found both boys to be quite attractive but eventually chose to chase after the Kirin. This crush on the Kirin caused her violent temperment to simmer down a bit though it didn't completely burn it out. As a leader, she tends to attack first and ask questions later, especially when it comes to Ju-Jak or protecting her territory. Due to many close-combat fights, the girl has become quick and quite agile when fighting. Despite the vicious personality, Li-Yin's heart tends to be in the right place and she tries her best to protect the people of the Western District. Around her neck is the Jin's signature tiger claw on a black leather chain. She works many odd jobs around the Western District and only works when she feels that she can expend the time and energy to do so.

Accepted Profiles Mizu User: Nariko Yuki Katana Appearance: Name: Xin Chow Nationality: Chinese/Japanese Gender: Female Age: 17 Height: 152.4 cm (50 in) Build: Short in height. Thin, not very muscular. Gang: Mizu Rank: Ushi Family: Father (Deceased), Mother (Lawyer), Older brother (27,Doctor), Little brother (7,Elementary student) Weapon: Steel painted metal baseball bat. Job: Works part time at a shopping center. School Rank: HS Year 3, Rank: 6, Heaven’s Landing High School Bio: All her life Xin has been a very bright and intelligent young woman. Her elder brother was in the Mizu gang, so she of course got in since she idolized her brother. Xin's father died when she was just starting high school, but the death only seemed to make her work harder. Even when she doesn't try that hard, she can still understand things quickly and is a very good student. Xin can always be seen with her gang symbol around her neck. She'll sometimes wear a necklace, other times a choker. Xin doesn't really have any close friends, nor does she like to be very social. The girl is always very serious and is often times very blunt and truthful. Jin User: Shadows After Dawn Appearance: Name: Qui Ping Nationality: Chinese Gender: Male Age: 17 Height: 170.2 cm (67 in) Build: Tall height, Medium build-up Gang: Jin Rank: Lou Family: Father (works in the local dojo), Mother (unemployed), pet dog (Min; male husky-mutt mix) Weapon: Kung Fu. But if Qui is attacked, then Min is most likely to attack the attacker. Job: Helping out at the dojo his father works at. School Rank: HS Year 2, Rank: 89, Heaven’s Landing High School Bio: For the first fourteen or so years of his life, Qui was pretty anti-social. Unlike most families, he had no older or younger siblings. Because of this, Qui never really got involved in the gangs as a younger child. He used to focus on his studies and Kung Fu lessons. That was all until four years ago, when his father decided it would be a good idea to get a dog for company for Qui. His father said that getting Min would help Qui become more social to his fellow peers. And the man was right. Since getting Min, Qui has joined the Chinese gang, the Jin, and has spent most of his time with them. But his grades have dropped tremendously since then, and about a year ago Qui picked up a bad smoking habit (even though he’s underage). Qui likes to stick to things that he is familiar with. Sometimes, Qui likes to kick back and relax, but only when he doesn’t have a worthy motive. Like most residents living in the Western District, he’s close to his family, but Qui treasures Min over anybody, or anything else. Qui and Min have become closer than ever in the years that they’ve been together, though. Wherever Qui goes, Min is close to follow (even without a leash). The dog looks out for his master’s best interest- if Qui is attacked, Min will attack the attacker. The husky-mix even sometimes tries to steal Qui’s box of cigarettes (which the dog hates the smell of). Min wears Qui’s symbol of the gang around his neck as a collar. The teen isn’t worried that Min will stray farther then a few feet from him, so he keeps his gang symbol on the dog. He was promoted a few months ago to subordinate.

Background Notes This roleplay has a lot of basis within Wu Xing, or the 5 chinese elements, but there are also the five gods that you may, or may not, have seen in many different books. These gods are not specific to one country or the other and are found in quite a few asian countries. Therefore, aside from the misc information you get in the next post, I would like to offer you up some information taken from Wikipedia. This will keep you from clicking absolutely everywhere and maybe even give you some ideas? The Kirin and His Subordinates The Kirin is based off of the Qilin and would have been called the Qilin had he been Chinese. His subordinates' names come from the Forbidden Enclosures. Their symbol, the yellow dragon pendant, is considered to be hold the center position with the five gods. Both the Yellow Dragon and the Qilin hold the same position of Earth in Wu Xing. Qilin The Qilin is a mythical hooved Chinese chimerical creature known throughout various East Asian cultures, and is said to appear in conjunction with the arrival of a sage. It is a good omen that brings peace and prosperity. It is often depicted with what looks like fire all over its body. The Qilin is known in other languages as: Sabitun Sabintu (in Manchu), Hariharipo Hariharimo (in Tibetan), Билигтэй Бэлэгтэй Гөрөөс (in Mongolian), Kỳ lân (in Vietnamese), Ki len (in Thai), Girin (in Korean), and Keilun (Cantonese). The Qilin made appearances in a variety of subsequent Chinese works of history and fiction. At one point, however, it became identified with the giraffe. The Qilin became a stylised representation of the giraffe in Ming dynasty. The identification between the Qilin and the giraffe is supported by some attributes of the Qilin, including its vegetarian and quiet nature. Its reputed ability to "walk on grass without disturbing it" may be related to the giraffe's long legs. It is unlikely that giraffes and qilins were regarded as the same creature in pre-modern times however. For example, typical depictions of the qilin have much shorter necks than giraffes. However, the Chinese characters suggest that it was originally a type of deer, or perhaps even antelope. Although it looks fearsome, the Qilin only punishes the wicked. It can walk on grass yet not trample the blades and it can also walk on water. Being a peaceful creature, its diet does not include flesh. It takes great care when it walks never to tread on any living thing, and it is said to appear only in areas ruled by a wise and benevolent leader (some say even if this area is only a house). It is normally gentle but can become fierce if a pure person is threatened by a sinner, spouting flames from its mouth and exercising other fearsome powers that vary from story to story. Manchurian depictions of the Qilin depict a creature with the head of a dragon, the antlers of a deer, the skin and scales of a fish, the hooves of an ox and tail of a lion. In Japanese, the Qilin is called Kirin. Japanese art tends to depict the Qilin as more deer-like than in Chinese art. It's depicted as a dragon shaped like a European-style unicorn, only with a horse's tail instead of a lion's. In the Post-Qin Chinese hierarchy of mythological animals, the Qilin is ranked as the third most powerful creature (after the dragon and phoenix), but in Japan, the Kirin occupies the top spot.
Yellow Dragon The Yellow Dragon, named Huang Long, is a hornless dragon who once emerged from the River Luo and presented the legendary Emperor Fu Xi with the elements of writing. According to legend, when it appeared before Fu Xi, it filled a hole in the sky made by the monster Kung Kung. Its waking, sleeping and breathing determined day and night, season and weather. At the end of his reign, the first legendary Emperor Huang Di was said to have been immortalized into a dragon that resembled his emblem, and ascended to Heaven (Some info says this is his dragon general Yinglong). Since the Chinese consider Huang Di as their ancestor, they sometimes refer to themselves as "the descendants of the dragon". This legend also contributed towards the use of the Chinese dragon as a symbol of imperial power.Zi Wei Yuan Zi Wei Yuan, the Purple Forbidden Enclosure is one of the San Yuan or Three enclosures. Stars and constellations of this group lie near the north celestial pole and visible all year from temperate latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere.Tai Wei Yuan Tai Wei Yuan, the Supreme Palace Enclosure is one of the San Yuan or Three enclosures. Stars and constellations of this group are visible during autumn in the Northern Hemisphere (spring in the Southern).Tian Shi Yuan Tian Shi Yuan, the Heavenly Market Enclosure is one of the San Yuan or Three enclosures. Stars and constellations of this group are visible during late summer and early autumn in the Northern Hemisphere (late winter and early spring in the Southern). The summer triangle lies directly to the northwest.Genbu and the Mizu Gang Genbu, the Mizu Gang, and the population of the North District was actually the last items formed in my mind. Genbu's name is the only name out of the four directions that can change. It didn't really start out that way but that's just the way it turned out. Read in Chinese, Genbu is really Xuan-Wu. Mizu means water in japanese and is the element of the north in Wu Xing. The top subordinates of the Mizu gang are the seven mansions of Genbu (which you will read later on if you so choose). The Black Tortoise The Black Tortoise (Chinese: Xuán Wǔ, literally "Black Warrior") is one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations. It is sometimes called the Black Warrior of the North, and it represents the north and the winter season. Although its name in Chinese, Xuánwǔ, is often translated as Black Tortoise in English, it is usually depicted as both a tortoise and a snake, specifically with the snake coiling around the tortoise. The Chinese constellations were not only used by Chinese cartographers, they were also used by Korean and Japanese cartographers as well. In Japanese, the Black Tortoise is called Genbu. In Korean it is called Hyeon-mu. In Sino-Vietnamese, it is called Huyền Vũ (Pronounced by "Hweon Vu"). Like the other Four Symbols, the Black Tortoise corresponds to seven "mansions", or positions, of the moon. * Dipper (Chinese: Dǒu) * Ox (Chinese: Niú) * Girl (Chinese: Nǚ) * Emptiness (Chinese: Xū) * Rooftop (Chinese: Wēi) * Encampment (Chinese: Shì) * Wall (Chinese: Bì) In ancient China, the tortoise and the snake were thought to be spiritual creatures symbolising longevity. During the Han Dynasty, people often wore jade pendants that were in the shape of tortoises. Because of ancient Chinese influence on Japan, honorific titles and badges in Japan often referred to the tortoise or images of tortoises. Then a legend arose that told of female tortoises being unable to mate with male tortoises, but only with male snakes. This made the male tortoise angry, but the female tortoise kept the male tortoise at a distance by urinating around herself. From then on, men whose wives were having extramarital affairs were often referred to as "tortoises," and so people stopped using the tortoise as a fortuitous symbolism. The depiction of the Xuánwǔ as a tortoise-snake creature may have come into existence because of this legend of female tortoises and male snakes mating. However, this explanation is uncertain, because the depiction could have come into existence as early as the Zhou Dynasty. Seiryuu and the Ki Gang Seiryuu and the Eastern District are perhaps the ONLY things that went through little, if any, changes within my mind. The only item I took out was a park, but it was put back in with small tweaks to it. Seiryuu was also the only one that I did not originally plan to go along with the Chinese version. The Chinese name for Seiryuu is Qing-Long. The Azure Dragon The Azure Dragon (Chinese: Qīng Lóng) is one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations. It is sometimes called the Azure Dragon of the East, and it represents the east and the spring season. It should not be confused with the mythological yellow dragon that is associated with the Emperor of China. The Chinese constellations were not only used by Chinese cartographers, they were also used by Korean and Japanese cartographers as well. In Japanese, the Azure Dragon is called Seiryū. In Korean, it is called Cheong-ryong. In Sino-Vietnamese, it is called Thanh Long (Pronounced by "Tshaeng Long"). Like the other Four Symbols, the Azure Dragon corresponds to seven "mansions", or positions, of the moon. * Horn (Chinese: Jiăo) * Neck (Chinese: Kàng) * Root (Chinese: Dĭ) * Room (Chinese: Fáng) * Heart (Chinese: Xīn) * Tail (Chinese: Wěi) * Winnowing Basket (Chinese: Jī) In Japan, the Azure Dragon is one of the four guardian spirits of cities and is said to protect the city of Kyoto on the east. The Azure Dragon is represented in the Kiyomizu Temple in eastern Kyoto. Before the entrance of the temple there is a statue of the dragon which is said to drink from the waterfall within the temple complex at nighttime. Ju-Jak and the Hi Gang Ju-Jak was the one I had the most difficulty with. Despite being half-korean, I have tons of trouble with the Korean language. That being the case it's almost impossible for me to successfully create a korean district with korean romanji. In order to create the Southern District, I merely smashed Japanese and Chinese together. I had the romanji chinese and I could get the japanese romanji easily enough. I almost regret it but I felt as though there should be a korean district and what better place to give the kimchi-tempered people than the element of fire. In Chinese, Ju-Jak is Zhu-Que. Also note that though the Zhu-Que is NOT Fenghuang, in this roleplay it can be interchanged. The Vermilion Bird The Vermilion Bird (Chinese: Zhū Què) is one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations. According to Wu Xing, the Taoist five-elemental system, it represents the fire-elemental, the direction of south, and the season summer correspondingly. Thus it is sometimes called the Vermilion Bird of the South. It is often mistaken for Fenghuang, but they are two different creatures. Fenghuang is the king of birds, while the Vermilion Bird is a mythological spirit creature of the Chinese constellations. The Vermilion Bird is an elegant and noble bird in both appearance and behavior, it is very selective in what it eats and where it perches, with its feathers in many different hues of reddish orange. Like the other Four Symbols, the Vermilion Bird corresponds to seven "mansions", or positions, of the moon. * Well (Chinese: Jǐng) * Ghost (Chinese: Guǐ) * Willow (Chinese: Liǔ) * Star (Chinese: Xīng) * Extended Net (Chinese: Zhāng) * Wings (Chinese: Yì) * Chariot (Chinese: Zhěn) The Chinese constellations were not only used by Chinese cartographers, they were also used by Korean and Japanese cartographers as well. Standard Mandarin: Zhū Què. Japanese: Suzaku. Korean: Ju-jak. Vietnam by Sino-Vietnamese: Chu Tước (Pronounced by "Tsu Terk"). Bai-Hu and the Jin Gang Bai-Hu I sorely wanted to call Byakko (the Japanese version of the word), but I wanted the western district to be predominantly chinese. It was also this district that started the entire idea. The White Tiger The White Tiger (Chinese: Bái Hǔ) is one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations. It is sometimes called the White Tiger of the West, and it represents the west and the autumn season. The Chinese constellations were not only used by Chinese cartographers, they were also used by Korean and Japanese cartographers as well. In Japanese, the White Tiger is called Byakko. In Korean, it is called Baekho. In Sino-Vietnamese, it is called Bạch Hổ (Pronounced by "Baht Ho"). Like the other Four Symbols, the White Tiger corresponds to seven "mansions", or positions, of the moon. * Legs (Chinese: Kuí) * Bond (Chinese: Lóu) * Stomach (Chinese: Wèi) * Hairy Head (Chinese: Mǎo) * Net (Chinese: Bì) * Turtle Beak (Chinese: Zī) * Three Stars (Chinese: Shēn) During the Han Dynasty, people believed the tiger to be the king of all beasts. Legend had it that when a tiger reached 500 years old, its tail would turn white. In this way, the white tiger became a kind of mythological creature. It was said that the white tiger would only appear when the emperor ruled with absolute virtue, or if there was peace throughout the world. Because the color white of the Chinese five elements also represents the west, the white tiger thus became a mythological guardian of the west.
