Like the other Canmores, he was a Hunter, zealously devoted to destroying Demona and the rest of her kind. On September 28, 1980, he attacked her at Notre Dame Cathedral while she was recovering the Praying Gargoyle from its secret cache there, and was slain by her ("Hunter's Moon" Part Three).

When he was a youth, Jason and his brother and sister, Robyn and Jon, accompanied their father Charles Canmore to Paris in his hunt for Demona in 1980, and saw him slain by her at Notre Dame Cathedral on the night of September 28th. Filled with anger at Demona for killing his father, Jason vowed revenge and took up the Hunter's mask. Thereafter, he and his brother and sister hunted Demona throughout the world, seeking to destroy her and all gargoyles.

In 1996, they came to New York, where Jason, adopting the alias of "Jason Conover", obtained a job as a policeman at the 23rd precinct station house, choosing this location because there had been more gargoyle sightings in this portion of New York than anywhere else in the city. He was partnered to Elisa, neither one knowing the other's secret, and in the course of their teaming up, began to develop feelings for each other.

During his first night in Manhattan, Jason and his siblings attacked Goliath, Angela, and Hudson at a Xanatos Enterprises warehouse, having mistaken Angela for Demona (and being hostile towards the gargoyles in any case on account of their vow to destroy the entire race). Jason critically wounded Angela, almost killing her, which began the feud between the Manhattan Clan and the Hunters. With his siblings, Jason tracked the clan to the clock tower and had it destroyed, but temporarily absented himself from the attack when he saw Elisa arriving at the station house.

Desperate to save her life, he swooped down to get her to safety, but in the process, she discovered his true identity.

The following day, Elisa and Jason met in the ruins of the clock tower to speak with each other; there, Jason learned to his shock that Elisa was a friend of the clan's. She did her best to turn him away from his pursuit of the clan, and even asked him what had started his family's feud with gargoyles to begin with; he had to confess that he didn't know. However, he felt that it was too late to end the quarrel.

Seeking to avenge the destruction of the clock tower, Goliath tracked the Hunters down to their headquarters near a dam, and fought them there. When Elisa came to the dam in a last desperate effort to stop the feud, Goliath knocked Jason into her, sending both plummeting over the dam, seemingly to their deaths. They survived, however, and Jason saved Elisa's life, getting her back to the city and to safety. In the course of so doing, he finally realized the error of his ways, and afterwards arrived at St. Damien's Cathedral with her to stop the fight between the gargoyles and the two remaining Hunters. He urged Jon Canmore to give up the hunt, but Jon was too filled with hatred and anger to listen. He shot at Goliath, but Jason interposed himself, and received the shot instead. It severed his spine, paralyzing him from the waist down.

Robyn got Jason to a hospital safely, where Elisa came to visit him. There he admitted to her that it was his mind that needed more healing than his body; Elisa offered to help him, although making it clear that her heart was now given to Goliath, which Jason understood ("Hunter's Moon" Part One, Hunter's Moon" Part Two, Hunter's Moon" Part Three).

Jason was last seen, still in the hospital under police guard. When Elisa visited him, he made her promise him that she would find someone who could give her everything she wanted. These words contributed to Elisa's growing doubts about her relationship with Goliath ("Invitation Only").

Jason will discover that Jon Canmore has become John Castaway, the leader of the Quarrymen, and will attempt, presumably unsuccessfully, to turn his brother from his destructive course.

When he was a small boy, Jon accompanied his older siblings and father, Charles Canmore, to Paris in 1980, where on the night of September 28th, he saw his father's death at Demona's hands at Notre Dame Cathedral. He accompanied his siblings on the Hunters' self-appointed quest to destroy Demona and any other remaining gargoyles, but his heart was never truly in it, at first.

When the Hunters came to New York in 1996, Jon took on the alias of "Jon Carter", a reporter for WVRN. In that role, he visited Castle Wyvern, ostensibly to interview Xanatos about the castle for a segment on New York's "unique skyline", but actually to search for traces of the gargoyles; he found a piece of stone skin in the courtyard during his visit. He afterwards accompanied his siblings during their battles with Goliath and his clan, although hesitantly; he felt that while Demona was indeed an enemy, the other gargoyles might not be, and that perhaps he and his family were doing the wrong thing by hunting them. However, he was a weak man at heart, and was never able to muster up enough courage to break with the Hunters’ tradition, he allowed Jason to talk him down, and continued the hunt even though he knew in his heart that it was wrong.

After the Canmores destroyed the Clock Tower, Jon was sent out on his sky-sled to shoot down any survivors before they could escape. However, when he saw the clan struggling away from the ruins, and how they were caring for their wounded (Hudson and Lexington), he could not bring himself to attack them, and let them flee. But his habit of weakness returned; when Jason and Robyn instructed him to publicly frame the gargoyles for the destruction of the clock tower in his "Jon Carter" persona, thus exposing them to the public and ensuring a city-wide gargoyle hunt, he yielded to their demands without an argument, and did it.

When Goliath attacked the Hunters at the dam, Jon stayed out of the fighting, feeling uncomfortable with it but, unlike Elisa, making no effort to stop it. When Goliath sent Jason over the dam, however, Jon was horrified. Overcome with grief and guilt, he felt convinced that his sparing the gargoyles at the clock tower had brought about Jason's death, and became consumed with an almost-insane hatred for the clan, which became all the more intensified after he saw the videotape of Demona's plans to destroy humanity in "Operation Clean Slate". He pursued her to Saint Damien's Cathedral, but when Goliath's clan arrived there as well, turned on them. He and Robyn were defeated by them, however, and Goliath was about to kill him when Elisa and Jason arrived at the cathedral. Jason urged Jon to give up his hatred for the gargoyles, but Jon refused, and tried to shoot Goliath. Jason threw himself in the way and took the shot for Goliath, severing his spine. Jon, horrified at what he had done, tried to face his guilt, but was unable to do so. Crying out "What have I - what have they done?" in an echo of Demona at Castle Wyvern a thousand years before, he vowed revenge, and left the cathedral in anger ("Hunter's Moon" Part One, "Hunter's Moon" Part Two, "Hunter's Moon" Part Three).

Jon afterwards made contact with the Illuminati, receiving their help in his war against the gargoyles ("Invitation Only"). He changed his name to "John Castaway", and set up the Quarrymen ("Nightwatch").

Robyn Canmore is a Hunter. She is the middle child of the Canmore trio, sister of Jason and Jon Canmore. She now leads the Redemption Squad under the codename: Hunter. Robyn was born in 1966. When she was 14, she accompanied her brothers and her father, Charles Canmore, to Paris in 1980, where, on the night of September 28th, she saw her father's fatal battle with Demona at Notre Dame Cathedral. Afterwards, she and her brothers became Hunters, vowed to hunt down and destroy Demona and any other surviving gargoyles.

When the Canmores came to New York in 1996, Robyn applied for a position at Nightstone Unlimited as Dominique Destine's personal assistant, under the alias of "Robyn Correy". There, she discovered about Dominique's double identity as Demona, and learned about her genocide scheme, "Operation Clean Slate".

She also took part in the struggle between the Hunters and Goliath's Clan, personally destroying the clock tower herself. However, after the battle at the dam where Jason Canmore was seemingly killed, she began to have doubts about their war upon all gargoyles, particularly after seeing what it was doing to Jon's character. She went with him to St. Damien's Cathedral for their final battle with the clan, but stopped the fighting when Jason and Elisa arrived, as Jon did not. Her original feelings about gargoyles were further shaken when she saw Goliath destroy the Praying Gargoyle, willingly risking his life and those of his entire race to save humanity from destruction ("Hunter's Moon" Part One, "Hunter's Moon" Part Two, "Hunter's Moon" Part Three). Afterwards, Robyn Canmore was taken into temporary police custody for destroying the clock tower.

However, she was soon released through the agency of the Director, who had decided to use her as his recruiter for the Redemption Squad, and its leader, under the codename, Hunter. She first traveled to Australia and after witnessing Dingo and Matrix defeat the Tazmanian Tiger in Sydney, followed them back to Uluru where she convinced them to join the Redemption Squad. The three then left for Tokyo. ("Strangers")
