Greetings!

So, you want to RP in the Ithilien Adventures RP? Excellent. First things first, you'll need to create a character. All of the canon characters from the books are NPCs, controlled by the GM (that's me), so no, you can't play them. As per the guild rules, you must fill out the following form and post it in the characters sub-forum.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Berz suggests using TekTek to create a quick and easy character pic, if nothing else.

Name:
Homeland:
Description:
Age:
Gender:
Race:
Weapons/powers/skills (optional):
History:
Sample post (needs to be 2-3 paragraphs):

Also, be sure to review the guild rules on character creation to make sure everything is on the up-and-up.

Once you have your character created, please post it in this thread in addition to posting it in the guild sub-forum for characters. I'll let you know here whether or not it is acceptable for this RP.

Accepted Characters

Late to the game? No problem!
As a (hopefully) continuing RP, I'll be running it in such a way that anyone can jump in at just about any time. As GM, it is my responsibility to find you something to do and I will do just that. Go ahead and make a character and then drop me a PM. We'll get you started.

Minas Estel

Located on the northern side of Emyn Arnen, just north of the ruin of the ancient capitol of Ithilien, the city of Minas Estel is Gondor's newest city. The Hill of Hope, as it is called in Westron, is the dwelling place of Faramir, Prince of Ithilien and Steward of Gondor, and his lady wife Éowyn the White Lady, and is the base of operations for the White Company which guards Ithilien.

Construction began on Minas Estel late in the spring of the year 1 of the fourth age and has continued apace ever since. Built on the order of King Elessar, Gondor is pouring resources into its construction and it has thus been raised very quickly.

Built in the style of Minas Tirith, it consists of seven levels built into the side of the mountains of Emyn Arnen. Three grand porches of stone break the layered pattern, extending the citadel on the first and top most level northward, westward, and eastward. Entry to each level can be found in tunnels which go beneath the center, northward-facing porch. Each tunnel is guarded by a thick metal gate, though these gates are usually open unless there is an attack. The one exception to this is the top most gate which leads to the citadel on the first level. That one is usually closed and the guard lets none through but the Prince's family, the King's family, their guests, and those members of the White Company granted access due to rank or position.

Within the citadel, there is a large tower which dominates the south part of the landscape. The tallest point in all of Minas Estel, it serves as the main watch tower for the city and is called the Tower of Boromir. There is legend that it contains one of the seeing stones, the Palantíri, though no one has confirmed or denied this. Three other, smaller towers rest at the ends of the three stone prows that cut through the city.

Though built in the style of Minas Tirith, Minas Estel is much smaller, its inner walls only extending upwards around three stories or so and each level encompassing only one street and two rows of buildings each. There are also small town squares on each level for trade, artisans, and gathering. The outermost wall of Minas Estel us large and strong, extending upwards of six stories, and is dominated by the great main gate.

Minas Estel is a city buzzing with activity and new construction. Between the new trade that goes on there, the constant influx of new settlers, and the sense that Gondor is once again becoming the great and wondrous kingdom it was in the stories of old, there is much to offer someone who dwells there, as long as one is brave enough to face the constant threat of orkish incursions out of Mordor and from Minas Morgul. The White Company is almost always recruiting soldiers to help in the protection of Ithilien and there is almost always work that needs doing.

Galenost

In the spring of the year 6 of the fourth age, Legolas of Mirkwood, legendary companion of the Fellowship of the Ring, led a contingent of Elves down from his father's realm of Mirkwood. North-west of Henneth Annûn by thirty leagues or so, they established the new Elven settlement of Galenost along the northern edge of the forests of North Ithilien, near Cormallen.

This settlement, like Minas Estel, has also grown quickly, though more out of necessity than out of any sort of patriotic drive. With incursions of Orcs out of Mordor, the Galenrim Elves have had to build their defenses quickly. They used the craft of their people to build walls of trees and vines along their perimeter and dwellings in the treetops of the forest.

Though under the protection of Gondor, Ithilien, and the White Company, the Galenrim are more or less self-sufficient. They have organized their own military, dominated by companies of archers and pikemen but also including those who specialize in other weapons. They have also established farms, vineyards, and orchards in the ground beneath the trees of Galenost.

Though he claims no title, Legolas is viewed by the Galenrim as the de facto leader of Galenost and those who dwell there. He himself professes loyalty to Ithilien and Gondor and as a result the archers and the pikemen of the Galenrim frequently work closely with the White Company and most will accept the command of Prince Faramir or any of the White Company command as if it were the command of their own company.

Ithilien and its General Organization

Ithilien is the largest Principality in Gondor, consisting of all those lands east of the Andúin river that Gondor claims. It is also the most contested land in Middle-earth in the fourth age, suffering incursions of Orcs and Uruk-Hai out of the ruined lands of Mordor.

Faramir, the Steward of Gondor, is Prince in Ithilien and watches over Gondor's first line of defense with the skill of a warrior and the heart of a scholar. He dwells with his family in Minas Estel. Éowyn of Rohan is his wife and to him has borne three children; Elboron the eldest son and heir to the Stewardship and Principality, Eldamir the youngest son, and Fréodgyth the youngest of the three and only daughter.

Working to guard Ithilien is the White Company. Under the command of its fiercely loyal Captain, Beregond of Lossarnach, the White Company is organized into three main branches. Commanding the Rangers is Mablung, the First Commander of the White Company. This part of the company spends most of its time in the field, patrolling Ithilien's boarders and guarding the stronghold of Henneth Annûn and is largely made up of those Rangers formerly of Faramir's company during the War of the Ring. Commanding the Ithilrochonath, or the Moon-Riders as they are called in Westron, is Léowine of Rohan, Second Commander of the White Company. Made up of many Rohirrim who traveled south with Éowyn and wished not to leave her service and those men of Gondor who wished to join them, the Moon-Riders are the cavalry of Ithilien. They patrol Ithilien in shorter bursts, returning to camps and to Minas Estel after only a day or so, usually. And finally, there is the Gate Guard, under the command of Damrod, Third Commander of the White Company. For the most part, the Gate Guard defends the cities and towns of Ithilien, with the greatest of their numbers based in Minas Estel itself.

Aiding the White Company are the Elves of the Galenrim out of the settlement of Galenost in North Ithilien. The main part of their military is organized into two companies. The first of the companies is the Ithil-Archers, under the command of Valithar Aradól. The second are the Ithil-Pikemen, under the command of Hadoriel Spear-Thrower.

The White Company and the Galenrim have their work cut out for them. Numerous battles and skirmishes have taken place all along the Ephel Dúath which fences Mordor off from the lands west of it. Of particular bother have been the Black Gate, which now stands broken and open, and the ancient city of Minas Morgul. Several battles have taken place near Minas Morgul in particular and the city is now in the hands of an Uruk-Hai who calls himself Urlak the Orc-King. He has made no secret of his desire to conquer all of Ithilien, but has so far been kept in check by the vigilance of the Men and Elves who dwell in Ithilien. However, he has fiercely defended his hold on Minas Morgul and this has begun to be a thorn in the side of Prince Faramir and the White Company.

Urlak has also been apparently breeding new and fearsome flying creatures. The origins of the creatures, called Fell Worms by those who have seen them, is unknown but they are said to resemble smaller, deformed versions of the infamous mounts of the Nazgûl. Their total numbers are not known, but a flight of them guards Minas Morgul and can often be seen roosting there.

The General State of Gondor and Middle-earth

The Kingdom of Gondor, of which Ithilien is a Principality, is the southern of the two Reunited Kingdoms. In the north, there is Arnor. Both fall under the reign of Elessar Telcontar.

Communication between the two kingdoms is somewhat limited, mainly owing to the sparse population in the southern reaches of Arnor and the distance between the two seats of power. What communication there is has been entrusted to a few members of the King's Grey Company.

Gondor is in the last few stages of some growing pains that began with restructuring following the War of the Ring. With the return of a king to the throne of Gondor, and with the war over, several lords of Gondor saw their chance to grab a bigger piece of the pie. The court of Gondor has become inundated with political machinations and maneuvering. Only the combined authority and power of King Elessar and Steward Faramir have managed to keep the situations from spiraling completely out of control.

Gondor has made an uneasy peace with their neighbors to the south in Khand and Haradwaith. A limited amount of trade has begun and frequent diplomats are exchanged, though peoples on the boarders of both nations often find themselves in conflict over land and waterways.

Arnor has been facing its own problems. With the war over, the sparse population has moved from a society of soldiers to a society of farmers. The population has undergone a rapid growth leaving the Men of Arnor with the problem of food production. With a lack of arable land and very few farms when compared to their numbers, food has been a very precious commodity for the past few seasons. The need to find arable land drove some of the men of Arnor to move in on the Shire, but an order from King Elessar halted that action in the year 8 of the fourth age. No Man may now set foot inside the Shire. In order to help solve the food shortage, the Hobbits of the Shire have engaged in a massive trade effort and grains are constantly shipped from the Principality of Dol Amroth in Gondor.

The friendship between Gondor and Rohan has never been more close than it is now. Several times, King Éomer of Rohan has sent horsemen to help his brother-in-law Prince Faramir fend off orkish incursions.

The Elves of Middle-earth have continued to leave for the Uttermost West. Rivendell remains as a stopover for those traveling to the Grey Havens and is under the rule of the twin sons of Elrond, Elledan and Elrohir. Lothórien remains under the rule of the Lord Celeborn, though its population is dwindling faster than that of any other Elven realm. Slowest to leave are the Elves of Mirkwood, ruled by King Thranduil.

In the lands north of Rohan, an alliance of free peoples has been formed between King Thranduil of Mirkwood, King Bard II of Dale, and King Dáin II of the Kingdom Under the Mountain.
