Her ship was in the harbor, and so was she. Slowly, the girl painted the letters on the side. The Storyteller would be ready for sail soon enough. Of course, she still had to collect a few more crew members and finish up her trade agreements with those willing to take on a new and possibly risky venture. Well, really, not so risky considering they knew her parents and most of them knew her as well and they were quite aware that one way or another they'd get their money.
She dipped her paintbrush in the can, but it came back with no paint on it. Sighing, the girl climbed off the platform she'd made to hold herself in front of the painted area and walked down the dock to the marketplace. She'd have to find some more paint, but she wasn't sure where in these areas she might find some.
Blinking, she stopped the nearest figure-- a boy somewhat younger than herself, "Do you know where I can get paint?" she asked.

Shen-Ru had never even been outside of Gaoling, let alone out of the Earth Kingdom... and now, here he was, in the Fire Nation, standing in the middle of the harbor market and trying to keep himself from getting too lost in the hustle and bustle of sailors and captains and travelers and sellers all hurrying about to do what they needed to do for their daily lives.
He had been so lost in thought that he didn't hear anyone approach him until he was spoken to, causing him to jump and whirl around to face the woman before him, moss-gray eyes wide with surprise and a touch of fear. It was bad that he had let himself get so distracted... it could have been anyone.
But he forced himself to relax and smile, getting a feeling that this woman was... safe. "I... I'm afraid I don't. I have just come here myself. This is not my home." Oh goodness, his poetry was coming back...

Ina had the decency to blush a bit, "Oh, I'm sorry. I don't usually have to pick up this sort of thing here, so I'm not sure where to look. Most of the shops I deal with have more interesting fare."
She tilted her head thoughtfully, "Where are you headed?"

Shen-Ru chuckled softly and shifted in an awkward manner - it wasn't often he was approached, let alone by young women such as Ina, and he found himself rather nervous. "I'm traveling with the circus that just came into town... But I have some free time right now. Perhaps I could help you find the paint...?"

The girl nodded, clapping her hands together, "Oh yes! That'd be perfect!" Somehow, she only seemed to have a professional attitude around those she was working with or trying to recruit to work with her.
"Traveling with the circus, eh?" she blinked, "You..uh..don't really seem the sort I'd expect."

"Oh, I get that a lot... I'm certainly not the usual type. A friend of mine sort of... rescued me from being trapped in an overly rich family who didn't care much about what happened with me," Shen-Ru replied, laughing sheepishly and shrugging a little. Then he looked towards the market, chewing on his bottom lip thoughtfully. "Well... shall we start looking?"

"Ah." So he was a bit of a runaway, huh? Well, she couldn't fault him for it. She'd thought of taking off on her own before...but really, she loved the sea too much and if she'd run to someone else's ship her parents would've found her easily enough.
"Sure, let's go! I'm Ina, by the way! What's your name?" She headed off in the direction of the vendors, peering curiously at each of the stalls on the way to the shops. None of them seemed to carry paint, but there were other interesting items. She picked up an antique looking ship at one stall, looking it over.

"My name is Shen-Ru," said the boy, pausing in their walking to bow politely, before hurrying to keep up with the girl. It was possibly a bad idea to wander off like this, but he always stuck with the well-traveled roads and the busy vendors, in case he had to slip away at the last second... Being kidnapped had made him suspicious, even during his efforts to help. He paused at the same vendor as Ina, picking up an old looking quill and making a soft sound of fascination before putting it back.
His gaze turned to scan the other vendors, looking quickly over each one for any that may sell paint. How hard could it be to find a little can of paint in so large of a place...?

Ina giggled, "I have a prettier quill at home, if you'd like. It's got a silver tip on it and it's all engraved and stuff. I got it in the Earth Kingdom a couple years ago. Apparently it's an old relic from the early days of Omashu."
She wasn't sure she believed the person who'd told her that, but still, an interesting story nonethless.
"Do you like stories?"
She paid the vendor a bit more than he was asking for the antique ship and moved on.

Shen-Ru followed after Ina, eyebrows rising curiously as she spoke of the quill, finding himself feeling just a little pang of nostalgia for the comforts of his home. "It sounds like it's very pretty... I do like stories, yes. I'm very fond of them. How about you?"

"I collect stories," the girl assured him, "One day I'll travel the world all on my own just collecting stories and stuff."
She didn't want to tell him about the rest of her plans just yet-- she barely knew the guy! "Do you have any interesting ones?"

Shen-Ru seemed amused, shaking his head a little and giving a sheepish smile. "I'm afraid that all the stories I know are currently unfinished, and there's no fun telling stories that aren't complete, you know? Perhaps there will be a day that I'll be able to tell my stories, but... not now. How about you?"

"Oh, I've got -lots- of stories," Ina assured him, "Though, most of them aren't mine. Except about the pirates who invaded my ship that one time when Dao Rui was onboard. Now -that's- a story!"
