I liked it, but I thought the main cast was a litttle too big, so that every character has only one thing they do:
The Captain The Pilot The Fighter (the Hot one) The Other Fighter (the Dumb one) The Doctor The Mysterious Girl They Found in a Briefcase The Preacher The Hooker
The obvious comparison to make is Outlaw Star:
The Captain-Pilot-Fighter The Mechanic The Mysterious Girl They Found in a Briefcase The Fighter (the Hot one) The Other Fighter (the Hot/Dumb one)
Fewer characters, easier to keep track of, with generally more aspects to their respective characters.

Actually, I remember seeing the commercial for Firefly with the girl gettin out of the case, and then passing on it thinking it was just a live action rip-off of Outlaw Star.

Yeah, but writ large; I would say it's a little bit funnier, too.
Plus, Outlaw Star isn't very realistic as far as Deep-Space Westerns go (it's not a "serious" anime) so Firefly is distinct as far as that goes.

I love Firefly. I thought the movie was great as well. It just sucks that the show was cancelled. My favorite character is Mal.

We really need to get the rights to show this at the con! I think it would bring a lot of people. Or at least the Serenity movie 3nodding .

w00t! Just finished the series and the movie! It's shiny. Very shiny smile . I think I like the movie better, as it raps up most of the story and explains origins of the Reavers. My only problem is they killed off two of my favorite characters. However, I think my most favorite character is Kaylee, with Jayne and River coming in second and third. Simon's just annoying, though I guess his type o character is necessary. He's the pompous un-rich kid who doesn't realize he has more in common with the crew than he thinks. I wish they had a couple more episodes with the Reavers in the series. Or at least more moments of horror/suspense. That's another reason why I like the movie better, is because it has those terrifying encounters. Yeah I really liked the concept of the Reavers, these inhuman cannibals haunting the outer reaches of the solar system; they don't give up the chase; they're are a force if nature that's almost indefeatable. They make the plot seem almost like a zombie movie.

I personally prefer the show to the movie purely for the comedy of the show however its very close between them as i love both so much. My favourite character is probably river for her brilliant comments and i luv her dress style (which is quite similar to mine anyway). My favourite quote by river: "Bible's broken. Contradictions, false logistics - doesn't make sense."

My friend finally watched all of the Firefly DVDs I lent her. Now she says she's going to kill me because the series has no closure. I tried telling her that this was because it got canceled, but she could say was "WHY????" I think I've managed to talk her into watching Serenity.

I had no idea other people have heard of FireFly! Fun fact: I n Justice Leage Unlimited the episode Hunter's Moon is almost a FireFly homage.
