I actually felt the opposite, but I rarely think that TV shows are well done. I find it totally ridiculous for several reasons, the biggest being that for a supposed psychopath, his character dialogue is full of feelings which the writers recant right after he voices them or acts on them. Bad characterization all over the place. The concept that he's a serial killer because of something that happened to him in his childhood? No, his type of disorder isn't the product of abuse or trauma. It's neurological.
Basically, what it all boils down to, Dexter is yet another gimmicked stab at the detective show genre (a genre I love to watch but rarely find done well). Someone thought it would be clever to make a CSI show from the perspective of a murderer. It's not clever because the writers are not smart enough to make a set up like that work. It's too formulaic and the characters are faulty, just like so much other shows.
I really wish they would give that time block on CBS to a show that was actually clever and inventive like Dead Like Me.
Sorry to attack your opinion here, but I was *just* talking about how this show drops the ball. I'm not saying it's unwatchable, I'm just saying it's not by any means the best, especially of it's genre. Currently, I'd give more props to Criminal Minds than Dexter, but I guess I can say at least its not CSI or Numbers.
