The sun was sinking ever so much closer to the horizon and Kina's eyes surveyed the landscape intently. The perfect time of day for surfing. The frail mouse took a gander over at her bright yellow surfboard detailed with sky blue and white hibiscus flowers.
Her attention then turned and she found herself starring down a threatening storm cloud. "You best not ruin my evening!" She yelled waving an angry fist toward the sky.

Kai could always be found in his usual spot. On the beach. Sleeping. Near the tide. Where he could easily be washed away or something of the sort, but it's not he bothered to dwell on something simple like that. Afterall, it hadn't happened yet, so why worry?
The sandy colored rolled rolled onto his back and sat up. He yawned quietly and scratched his red tipped hair lazily. He had woken up just in time to see some tanned beach girl in the normal beach get up shouting at the sky.
Weird.

Kina grabbed her board and headed out towards the water where she was quick to jump in and start paddling in deeper. She sat bobbing in the open water waiting for a good wave. One came about soon after. She stood up on her board carefully balancing herself so she did not fall and rode the wave all the way into the sandy beach. Her board came to a halt right next to a sandy colored mouse. "Hi." She greeted with a wave and lifted her board from the sand and headed back out to the water.

Kai watched as the girl hopped onto a...surf board---he was already interested. As she floated over to him, he greeted her back, "Hey!"
Kai yawned quietly and scratched his red tipped hair once more before messing around with his ocean blue overalls. Jumping to his feet, he called after her, "Sweet~ Mind if I join you?"
He looked around for his surf board, but all he saw was sand and the occasional seashell. Furrowing his brow, he began digging around. Sweeping his paw over the spopt next to where he was just napping, Kai uncovered his black and neon blue surf board.

Kina gave a cute smile to the boy and nodded her head. "Of course you can join." She said making a quick start for the water. She paddled in a way and looked back to Kai. "First bout of storm and I am totally out." She called pointing to the darkening clouds.

Kai grabbed his little surfboard and quickly jumped into the cool, refreshing water. Enjoying the tingle of the ocean sweeping through his fur for a moment, he let out a content sigh. If he could, he'd so live in the ocean. Quickly catching up the pretty little surfer, he smirked a bit.
"Heh. Surfin' in a storm is kinda fun through. You get this nice adrenaline rush before you slap yourself and scream, 'what the hell am I doing?!'" chuckling softly, he stopped paddling and just floated around. How relaxing. This was the life. Surfin' along, strikin' up a conversation with a fellow surfer every now and then, without a care in the world as the rest of the world rushed by.
"But yeah, sure. Surfin' alone is no fun. What a shame though, waves are perfect."

"As much as I enjoy adrenaline rushes, I really do not want to go out by lightning strike. Or getting swallowed up by some serious wave-age and drowning, or I dunno... asphyxiation by sand?" Kina said giving a soft laugh and catching the barrel of a crowning wave. She gave a loud "Wahoo!" and rode the barrel till it folded entirely in on itself.
"You're right, these waves are great!" She gave a triumphant beam and a hearty peace sign to Kai. "You should totally do what I just did." Kina laughed.

Kai gave the girl a cheerful laugh, "Don't be so negative! A life wthout risks is like, not fun. Live life to its fullest..." He let out a yawn and looked out ahead blankly. Because of the upcoming storm, it was slightly humid. Warm water, the sound of water crashing onto the shore distantly, humidity, and the gentle rocking of the waves was rather relaxing.
Kai's eyes began to close a bit as he he watched the girl through half closed eyes. His head suddenly fell down and hit the board, making him jolt up.
"WHA? YEAH. Yeah. Right. Sure."
He paddled off in a slightly crooked direction towards an oncoming wave. Standing up on his surf board, he quickly rode the wave and came sliding back to the girl soon afterwards.
His ear twitched slightly as Kai looked up curious. Water. Sky. Rain. Ugh. He frowned and made a face, "Crap. It's starting to rain. This sucks. Ah well, surfin' in the rain is cool. Everything in the rain is cool," he chuckled softly and shook his head in order to get the water out of his ears.

"I know." Kina sighed looking up to the sky with a scowl. She thrust an angry fit upwards. "As long as there is no lightning." The vibrant girl stated rowing back into the choppy sea.

Kai shrugged a bit and floated after her. Silence.
"..... Oh right. I'm Kai, nice to meet you stranger." He ran a paw through his red tipped hair and looked down into the water. He loved the way it rippled in the rain. Suddenly, it began to pour buckets and buckets of water down on them. It was like a natural shower.
Kai nodded slowly, "Yeah, lightning's kinda pretty though. But anyways, we ought to surf as much as we can before the storm worsens eh?" He had always wanted to hang out in the rain late one night. The people in the TV shows that Kitsai watched always had people having fun in the rain. Dancing in the rain. Kissing in the rain. Laughing the rain. Running in the rain.

"Oh, I am sorry." Kina made a face. "I forgot to introduce myself. I am so scatter-brained sometimes." She stuck her tongue out.
"My name is Kina... Kina Lanikai." She smiled. Then she continued surfing being weary of the weather.
The rain was soaking her complete to the bone, as well as her 'partner' she assumed. Kina ran into the sand after a final run and looked over at Kai. "I am getting rea....." A crack of lightning flashed overhead. "EEEEP!" Kina ducked under her board. "I think I am done." Thunder boomed.

Kai was silent for a few seconds, "Oh. Huh, right. I forgot to introduce myself too. My bad! I'm Kai. Please to meet you Kina." Her loud cry at the sound of lightning made his skin crawl. It always creeped him out when someone made some kind of sound to show displeasure.
He quickly paddled back to shore and lay on his board for a few more seconds before jumping to his feet, "Mmkay. We better get out of this rain before we catch a cold. Then again, it's kinda warm..." He ran his paw through his red tips in an attempt to get them back to their semi-spikey look. But to no avail. "Ugh."

Kina cowared under her board. "Nice to meet you too, Kai." Her teeth chattered nervously.
Her head went from side to side looking over the beach. A cardboard box, underneath a bench caught her attention. "There." She pointed and ran as fast as her little legs could take her.

He nodded at her slightly, "Ditto." Rainy days always make Kai sleepy, he never knew why. Elli said that perhaps it was because the sound of rain was soothing, but honestly, the sound of rain was rather annoying. All the pitter patter sounds on the roof of a house as the wind blows at leaves. Quite annoying really.
Jogging after the small female nonchalantly, Kai ducked under the bench and began to wring out the water from his clothes.

Kina didn't bother wringing her clothes out before cowering in the far corner of the box. "I hate thunder and lightning." The girl stammered bringing her knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around herself. For an outgoing mouse her only weekness was storms. She hated looking vulnerable. But this would have to be an exception. She was far to far from home to run and cower there.
