Someone or something has shot down our poor little America and now she is dying. My question is who, or WHAT, do you think caused it? Is it just the natural order of things? Is it our own self destruction?

For those not in America: from what you hear about America, what do you think is our biggest problem that is dragging us down? Do you see your country as the next target for destruction?

And for all those that disagree: What country do you see falling down and tripping over it's own two feet?

Well My thought is this. Most americans think we have it hard with our laws here. Those same Americans don't know the laws other countries have. I know an air force member who says that italy also has it's own set of stupid laws.

So do you think that it's the fact we don't realize how easy we have it here that we are more acceptable to decline as a country? I mean I don't think there is any country that likes all of it's laws. And some of our laws do sound pretty crazy.

Ok well I come from a long line of Patriotism My father fought to protect this country and his father and his father going all the way back to the revolutionary war. I personally love and enjoy the freedoms that have been given to us. I am grateful for all those who sacrifice so I can enjoy the freedoms I do.

However, I do feel that this country is and has been on a downward spiral for some time now. The reasoning for this is many reasons. The government and the people not working together. To much hardheadedness, I at times definitely go into that category, But I feel that the Media has a huge part in it. I feel that the fact that the divorce rate is so incredibly high and the fact that there are very few functional families most are dysfunctional... All of these things play a part.

Alrighty, that makes good sense and I agree to an extent but here is the question for you Ma'am. Is it too late? I mean the government and the people haven't really agreed since the time this country was really "Founded"

But divorce rates? Dysfunction families? This could very well be a part of the problem and yes I am DEFINITELY sick of seeing marriages fly by. It's like people think of marriage as a piece of paper that says "We're together for now" and divorce as "Ok, we want to see other people now."

But can we save it? It's quite a "new age" thing to have these practices. That and it's being taught that it's ok for some things to be this way. It's like racism in a sense. People don't realize how long it took for thing to settle THIS much and even now racism is still not looking like it's doing any better. So how are to stop this change now?

I do not think it is too late. But it very well could be because people are not willing to change in the slightest.

We can save it if people are willing to stop being so pigheaded and start being actual human beings. It only has to start with a few people that is all it takes and then the ripple effect if we choose to change it will be massive.

Also we need to realzie that govement has as much control as the people give to it. OVer the years we have been steadily giving more and more control to the govement.

Our founding fathers (If you are an American!) made an idiot proof system when they constructed the constitution. America these days isn't building citizens who are interested in making their country great, or helping the greater good of society as a whole. There are very few teenagers these days that are not self-centered. (I would know.)
I blame the media, and the government. The government should be more controling the media and promoting the development of the individual as a whole, not just Desperate Housewives, or Lost.
America is sometimes compared to Rome, They boh started with noble intentions, but ended up causing their own ruin. America seems to be going down this same path. Entertainment is not something that can coincide with Intelligence anymore. Yes there are always exceptions, but looking at America as a whole, we are causeing our own ruin.

Is it too late?
I don't know, but I also don't think so.
I think if they made more public schools, and made them smaller class sizes that would help. To make students to see school as less of a chore, and more of an experience that can develop them as an individual. Education is always a key to a brighter future. Public school these days treats students more like cattle than actual people. It's kind of sad.

It's not a monarchy, we live in a Democratic Republic.
It's the media that is gaining power over America, not the government.
"and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth" (Lincoln's Gettysburg Address)
We ARE the government, it can only have as much power as we give it.
the media is unregulated by the people, they can air almost anything they want. *shrug*

The media is controlled my the government and by the government I mean the people. The media is nothing more than a mirror of our society.

They use to have this saying "if it bleeds, it leads" in news papers. It applies a lot to news and media today. We also have another saying that has developed which is "Sex sells" and that is also true. So if it's sex or death you see it constantly. And it is no ones fault but our own.

If we don't watch they won't play it.

I live in Holland and believe me you guys can be off way worse, if you want to see some s**t rolling downhill you have to see the political parties here. All of them too afraid of stepping on someone's toes to change something, and if a party comes along who wants to change things it is written of as indecent.

But here the parties sometimes disagree with laws/bills, not because they think there bad, but because the other party supports it. We have the oppisit problem.

Well let me start off by saying the people of America is destroying are beautiful land. Not only because of pollution but we keep building things in great forests that need to exist. I am not a tree hugger but that is really true. Also because of wars.
