Lesson 1: Rules
Alright, admit it. All of us (especially me) have broken rules before. Whether it was a PG-13 status in a roleplay, or a curfew you stayed out past, you've done it, whether you noticed or not. But I've noticed that in forum roleplays, people aren't so lenient on the rules. Breaking one only once can be enough to get you kicked out, although some people may or may not give you more chances to redeem yourself. A way to avoid this, is to carefully READ THE RULES OVER at least once, and preferrably twice to make sure you didn't miss anything. Just by not doing this, you can endanger yourself with the ever looming threat of not being accepted. Some roleplays prefer to have the profiles PMed to the Moderator of said roleplay, to keep the pages from getting cluttered.
Culprits to this: Jay, and Sireez
I don't mean to point you two out or anything, but they're the two examples that I can find in this guild, evidence in the Ultimate thread. While it says clearly, in the indigo colored post on the first page, that the profiles are to be PMed to me to make it nice and neat, you openly posted your profiles in the thread. In most roleplays, this could be reason to warn you against doing it. In some, it would define you as illiterate and plaster N00B on your foreheads, thereby cutting you off and denying you entrance to the roleplay. In mine, it just means I get to laugh at you in the privacy of my own home, but let's move on from that, shall we?

Part 2: Basic Rules of Every Roleplay
1) No Godmoding 2) No Cybering 3) Follow Gaia ToS
These three rules are always the same, and never change, no matter what Roleplay you're in. They may not be on the lists all the time, but it's just common sense, and you should follow it. A couple other rules that may be on the lists are:
-A PG rating. This could stretch from 13 to 18, but Gaia says it has to be at least 13.
-Profiles This should tell you how to submit your profiles. Whether by posting or PMs, they should have this in there. There may be a specified title for the PM, and there may be a specified item, word, or smiley face that needs to be in the application for it to be accepted. Be careful of this, these guys can be tricky, so highlight it to make sure you didn't miss anything that they may or may not have hidden.
-Character Limit There may or may not be a limit to how many characters you are allowed to have. There may also be race restrictions, age perimiters, and so on and so forth. Be sure to follow these, so your character meets the requirements and is allowed to join.
-Genre This is an important thing to pay attention to. If you're in a Romance/Fantasy RP, you shouldn't make a sci-fi/battle character. It doesn't fit. If you really like one of your characters, then mold them a bit to fit the genre, and the roleplay requirements. Simply because a lazer toting giant wouldn't fit in with the kissy faced faerys. I'm sorry, but it's the truth.
-Literacy Levels Most people with have a level of literacy you must pass to join their roleplay. This can stretch from lit to using ** for actions, the latter of which is one you don't want to join. They tend to be chaotic, hard to understand, jeuvinile, lack creativity, etc, etc, the list goes on. Try a semi-lit. They're fun, somewhat creative, and most people's skills will match yours. Of course, to find out if you really are semi-lit, you'll have to wait for another lesson.

Semi Lit means Semi-Literate. It's what I am, and what you are.
Literate is right hard-core, with fancy shmancy posts that are five twelve sentence paragraphs long per character. There are one to none grammar or spelling mistakes, and their characters are freakishly well developed. The posts are mostly decorative, pictures and words and borders and stuff.
Semi-Literate is just literate, but toned down. A paragraph of five sentences per post usually, sometimes less, with all characters. The decoration of posts ends at character color mostly.
