Book's PLOT:
Robert Neville is left to survive on his own when everyone he knows, including his wife and child, are infected and killed in a strange epidemic. As if that wasn't enough, the deceased suddenly begin to rise from their graves, craving the blood of the living. Robert winds up having to bury his wife a second time. Three years later, as Neville sinks into a life of isolation, a glimmer of hope appears. A group of survivors has appeared and now the vampyric zombies who have hunted Neville in turn are being hunted themselves. Robert Neville has his doubts, though. He knows he can't trust the zombies, but can he trust his own kind?

I learned about this book last July when the UW Sci Fi Club chose to watch The Last Man on Earth starring Vincent Price. I was told that this movie , a long with "Omega Man" starring Charlton Heston, was based on the popular I Am Legend novel, and that a film starring Will Smith was coming out. Everyone in the club seemed to have read it, and they all seemed so excited that I decided to buy it. Since the novel was out of print, I had to wait until just last week to buy it.

So far, it's very well written. You really get into the protagonist's head and the emotional roller coaster he rides can be draining for the reader. I'd like to see the newest film version with Will Smith.

In the Vincent Price film, The Last Man on Earth, he contends with semi-sentient vampire zombies. The fiends Charlton Heston dealt with had a sort of mutant-cult thing going on (this is the movie a Halloween episode of "The Simpsons" is based on). I'm interested to see what kind of baddies the Fresh Prince will face; the "fast zombies" of recent zombie-horror fare (28 Days Later, the Dawn of the Dead remake), possibly the "smart zombies" of the most recent Romero offering, or something new entirely.

Incidentally, The Omega Man (the Heston one) was one of a trio of sci-fi movies Charlton Heston made in the late seventies, along with Planet of the Apes and Soylent Green.

I've finished the book. It ended kind of suddenly. The "novel" I picked up was actually a collection with short stories included, so I was shocked to see the story end, and yet I still had half a book to read lol .

I don't think spoilers ruin it for me easily if I read them compared to when I actually see a clip from the movie. But now, of course, my interest is peeked...*goes off to read the wikipedia article*...

I've read the book but I haven't seen the movie. It's a great story by Richard Matheson with a new interesting Idea on vampires.

i robot is awsome it really comprises all the themmes of the books into one great film...but it doesnt really anything that happened in the books. just something that could.

as for i am legend. ive seen themovie with both endings..it was very impressive...ive only read bit a nd pieces of the book. i would pick it up in my friend s room while i waited for them. the movie was very realistic to something that might happen.more so then some zombie movies ive seen.
