Cledwyn looked around, expecting to find a little hind skipping up to greet him. He knew that the said hind wasn’t Maysa. He knew that Maysa would be busy tending to her mother. The hind he was referring to was his new fling, Arden. Ever since the two Herla met it was like true love had appeared in front of Cledwyn again, despite him being almost eleven. He had thought that he would be too old to sire any children until she appeared.

Not spotting the chocolate-hued hind, he turned his attentions on finding someone to tell a story to. He knew that the new Lord of the herd, Brychan, recently heard news that all of his hind had had at least one offspring. That news spread like wild-fire over the herd. Cledwyn didn’t know the exact number of children Brychan had, but he knew that it had to be at least four. Flicking an ear, he settled himself down on the ground and patiently waited for someone to wander over to him.

One would happen his way, and it would be said Lord of the herd. Although he wasn't really seeking out Cledwyn, he was just passing by. However, the stag seemed to be deep in thought and didn't even notice the white storyteller as he passed. Despite the fact that he had many children with his hinds, he looked somewhat troubled.

The starry pelted stag was merely doing one of his occasional rounds about the herd, checking in with captains and outriders and getting news from them so they wouldn't have to leave their posts. Many hinds had given birth this year, and that would attract predators, so they needed to be ont heir guard to keep them safe.

By that point Cledwyn had started to doze off into a light slumber. It was the vibrations of hooves that woke up the old storyteller. Blinking his eyes a few times, he gazed around to see who had walked past him and spotted a dark smudge with light speckles on the pelt-the Lord of the Herd. Canting his head to one side, he noticed that Brychan hadn’t stopped to say hello to him. He knew that something must be up, so he slowly rose to his hooves and started to follow the troubled Lord.

“My lord, is something wrong?” he asked Brychan after walking silently behind the other stag for a good five minutes. “You seem to be troubled by something. Maybe I can help figure out what is troubling you?” He patiently waited for a reply from Brychan as he gazed around the area with his near-blind eyes.

The Lord paused as he heard a familiar voice and eventually turned to look behind him as the old storyteller approached with his questions. A faint, but kind smile appeared on Brychan's muzzle.. if a bit sad. "I must admit, that something is troubling me... but I'm afraid its not something you can help with, Cledwyn."

The stag sighed, "One of my hinds gave birth to a dead calf. Its been especially hard on her, since it was her first." Ears laid back as he remembered seeing Siani standing beside the lifeless body, nudging and encouraging him to get up. However, a mourning hind was inconsolable, and try as he might.. nothing Brychan said was able to ease her pain. This was one moment when he felt truely helpless. He couldn't bring the dead back to life, and there was little he could do to help Siani... and his own pain at losing a son only added to it.

Cledwyn nodded his head, having been down that road before. “I have felt the pain of loosing an offspring once when I was younger. I blamed myself for the cause of the calf’s death. My hind never got over the pain of loosing her only offspring. I guess it was fate that she joined him later that month.”

He closed his eyes as he remembered that bad, old memory. He didn’t want to remember it, but in this current situation that the new Lord was in he couldn’t help but to remember it.

There was really nothing Brychan could say to that. While he has lost a child, he's had many more... and hasn't witnessed the death of one of his hinds either. He was incredibly blessed, but that didn't keep him from mourning the loss of the one little calf and Siani's pain.

The Lord just sighed and looked towards Cledwyn, "There's nothing I can do to help her, and I think that's what hurts most. Only time can heal these wounds."
