I started a story that would eventually have the characters singing in it, but then after I thought about it I realized that I don't even read the lyrics in fics that are similiar in plot. I just skim over them. sweatdrop

Music can't just be read (unless you're some kind of musical genious - but even then you would need notes). It has to be heard. So I've been thinking of doing something I havn't seen done before.

What if, instead of writing all the lyrics and going into the description of how it sounds, I stated what song I would be using before each chapter so that the reader could find it online and listen as they read. I could cue them so they would know when to press play and write it so that the song would end about the same time it would in the story. It'd be a lot of work, but I think it would be a thrilling experiance.

Thoughts?

Honestly, not many people would go through the trouble of finding the song to listen to it. Maybe not even if you supplied a link to where they could listen to the song without downloading it.
I don't find the music in songs important enough to care to listen or read the lyrics. But perhaps if your entire story was based around the song, then it would have to be done. Though that is hardly ever the case.

I've got one fic - Inu, obviously - that has characters singing, but the way it's set up, it is well...here:

FanFiction.Net - Don't Fall In Love!

It's to the song "Don't Fall In Love" from Disney's Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas. There is a second part, but it's not finished yet.

The song is originally sung by one person (Forte, the organ, as he's trying to convince the Beast not to fall for Belle.), but I managed to split it in two fairly nicely, I think.

Maybe seeing this will help. If you don't know the song, I can try to find it online for you. It's really good.

I don't know about other people, but I don't usually listen to a song that goes with a particular story. If I like the overall plotline, I don't really care about the music - the words are what matters.

If I may ask, what song(s) were you planning to use? You don't have to answer if you don't want to - I'm just curious (I've got to be part dog...I'm always sticking my nose where it doesn't belong...).
