How to get Gold on Gaia
Most things you do will get you gold - surfing, posting in a forum, taking polls etc. There is also magical gift boxes that appear randomly when you're logged in. They're kinda rare, but the items in them are good.
Daily Chances
Make sure to do all of them! You get one dc per day in all of these: Home, My Gaia, World, Community, Market, Games, News & Events and Gaia Store.
Personally, it's the first thing I do when I log in. You get gold, items and game items.
Towns
In towns you'll mainly find trash, flowers and some bugs. Bumping trees, bushes and rocks yields gold.
The Games
Puzzle solving is an easy way to get some extra gold (and sometimes items). The more difficult the puzzle is the more gold you'll get. Cards and Slots needs tokens and give you tickets you can trade for prizes.
Fishing is a good way of getting gold, if you sell the fish once you've filled your bucket. I often get fish bait in the daily chances so it doesn't cost you extra unless you fish a lot. Fish and trash can also be traded into items.
Marketplace
Here you can sell your unwanted items. You can also buy cheap items and sell them at a higher price to earn some gold.
In the Exchange forums you can often find cheap items you can sell.
Try to be cool about it all. Something worth 10 g today might be worth 1000 g next year... If you want to have gold coming in later too you should make investments in items with potential.
Invite Your Friends
Every friend you invite gets 200 extra gold when they join, and you get 100 gold for inviting them. The more friends you invite, the bigger and better bonuses you'll get.
Quests
You've most likely done Moira's newbie quest. There's more out there, most of them giving you items.

Buy low, sell high on the marketplace.
Sounds easy, huh?
Try only to use items not sold in stores (the commons can be sold but aren't as profitable). Each time Gaia has an event like Christmas, Easter, Halloween etc you would want to get your hands on some extra items to sell later.
When you set your price you should check what others are asking for and set yours lower (1 gold can mean the difference between getting it sold and not getting it sold).
Why hoarding is good
Items that are only available for a short period of time will be worth a lot more when they stop being available. You'll need to have an eye for what will become valuable though - trash is trash even if it's a year old.
MC's rise the most in price over time so if you buy yours for 2.50 USD and then wait a little, you'll have something worth a heck of a lot more...
