Boyd was breaking in his title as Outrider and was going on patrol. His senses were alert for any sound that seemed out of the ordinary. His strides were confident and his movement effortless. He was some ways from the main herd. He could see them still, but he stood above them on a grassy ridge. Near the treeline he heard a rustling. His head turned and his ears flicked forward. A hedgehog peeked out from the underbrush then scampered back into the under growth. His green orbs flitted over the area then he turned and began his returning route towards the herd.
((Sorry for the short start. I'm suffering from a bit of a brain cramp. ^^ wink )

Iris was up to no good. She had hid in the brush to hear the announcement of the new outriders and she picked the youngest looking one to stalk. This was her way of "congratulating" them.
She had the white stag in her sight. She snuck foward like a wolf, her ears pinned back and her body a bit too close to the ground. Rocks rubbed against her belly, but she didn't seem to care in the least. Her firey eyes sparkled wickedly. He was a beautiful stag, but she wasn't there to sit back and stare at him. She wanted to see what he would do when faced with "danger". A danger named Iris. She snuck even closer until she found herself breathing on his flank with a wolfish grin. "Hello!" she suddenly sang.

Boyd could now pick up the scents of the herd. All seemed calm and at ease. He was glad that there was no impending threat to the herd. As far as he knew, he was relatively safe on his own. He was strong and had a decent rack on his head. He knew how to take care of things. A sudden exclamation of greeting shocked him out of his thoughts and he whipped around to see the cause, his muscles ready to rear back and stamp if the 'danger' posed imminent threat on himself or those in the herd.
A hind with fiery eyes stared back at him. Boyd blinked at her with a slight tip of his head. "Hello to you too," he said less than enthusiastically, his adrenaline causing his heart to race. He shook himself to disguise his deep breath to calm his nerves. "What are you doing out here all by yourself?"

Iris grinned and trotted around him in a compleate circle. "I'm learning," she chriped, her ears swivling. She streached her neck out to stare at something in a tree beyond the white stag. "Learning the storys of the trees, the birds, the earth, everything. Even now, I'm learning your story Mister......?" She didn't know his name. Scrunching her muzzle up she gave him a very creative nickname, "....Fair Eyes. I'm Iris, a young storyteller. I've seen you around the herd." She got really close to him and grinned, her tail twiching like the wolves who serve the humans. Her age showed, she was young at least in mind if not in body.

Boyd watch the young hind trot completely around him. When she spoke of learning the stories of the trees and stared at something beyond him. "Well, learning is always a good thing, Iris." He turned back to face her to find she had nearly completely closed the gap between them. His ears were perked. "Fair Eyes?" Boyd chuckled and gave a slight shake of his head. "I have seen you around too on occasion, young storyteller Iris. My name is Boyd. You can call me that, but if you prefer Fair Eyes so much more, I suppose you can address me that way too."

Her smile got wider. "You do have fair eyes," she innocently commented, "You're Boyd then. Do you remember the stories my master Morven used to tell us when we were young? I know those now. She taught me what I know." Her firey eyes held a proud gleam to them. She nosed a weird looking fern to see if it was fuzzy.

"Thanks, I guess." Boyd didn't get many compliments. Granted, the span of time leading up to his recieving the Outrider title, he had been hanging around a grouping of young males such as himself. But that time was now passed and he was now old enough to persue hinds for a harem of his own if he so wished. "Yes, I remember Morven's stories. I remember them fondly. You're apprenticing her then. Well, I bet you're going to be as good a storyteller as Morven. You certainly seem to have a passion for what you do, so that's always admirable." The fair coated stag nodded his head as if to cement his statement as truth.

Iris blinked at the stag in surprise and shock. "Um...thanks," she sheepishly stated. Nobody had ever really given her a comment. Everyone just brushed her off as childish and annoying. She gave up on the fuzzy fern and turned to stare at Boyd. He was handsome, but she wasn't that easily impressed. His eyes seemed gentle enough though, so she decided to stay and maybe strike up an friendly chat. "Am I the only threat you've run into yet?" she asked him with a kind smile.

Boyd chuckled and nodded. "Yeah, I suppose you could say that, Iris. I've still got some patrolling to, but you're welcome to join me. It'd be nice to have some company out here." He dipped his head and turned slightly to continue on his patrol. He looked to her and grinned. "Who knows? We may well stumble upon something interesting. Or something may stumble upon us." Boyd flicked his tail mischievously, his grin never leaving his face. "Or is there someone else you'd like to spring out of the green at?"

Iris laughed heartily. "No, that fern itched my nose. I'll go with you," she sang in reply. She trotted lightly after Boyd, a hum streaming from her throat. Her firey eyes darted here and there as she went slow enough for Boyd to catch up, but faster than a normal walk. She hoped they found something interesting. Boyd promised.

Boyd chuckled. "Alright. I'm glad to have the company." He kept pace with the fiery young storyteller. He half hoped they would find something interesting, for she certainly seemed to be looking for something. Usually, things were calm. Theirs was a large herd, strong in number and protection. Generally few dared to try things. However, it wasn't unheard of to catch a predator of some sort trying to get close enough to attempt nabbing a youngling from their mothers. "I certainly hope note to disappoint you. For the most part things are uneventful, but when things get lively they get that way in a big way."

((I can make things...lively if you want. I have a wolf and a Fallen deer....*evil smile*))
Iris laughed, a bubbly sound. She pranced a few steps. "I've seen many a thing. Nothing can surprise me now!" she giggled. Her ears reeled this way and that in a vein attempt to catch the sound of something moving. Nothing. Her tail began to droup in disappointment.
"So you became an Outrider. What possessed you to do that?" she snipped glancing at the handsome deer. a lot of the time, Outriders bore emotional scars or scars on their pelts. She found most of them to be a bit....brutish. She fell back in time with Boyd's step glad to be away from the main herd. Morven had been looking for her and she didn't really want to be found. And she had been spying on Boyd for years. Grinning happily, she nipped Boyd's ear in a compleatly playful manner.

((Ooh. Break one out. Let's throw some spice into the mix. >3 ))
Boyd laughed along. "Alright. I don't know if this route will surprise you, but you may never know." He too was listening for things. As of late things have been pretty calm, but one could never take anything for granted.
"Why did I become an Outrider?" He tipped his head slightly as he thought. "Hm. Well, I guess because of my father. He was an Outrider. I remember growing up thinking 'Wow, my dad is so brave and strong for putting himself out there.' He would come around and tell me stories of his patrols. Of his encounters and scrapes. It was all so interesting to me. I decided that I wanted to be like that." He chuckled and gave his head a shake. "Impressive sounding, huh? 'Cuz my dad was one." He looked to Iris, waiting patiently for her response. He was enjoying her company.

((The Dead Fallen it is then! xd Mwahaha!)) Iris couldn't make a reply. She was frozen in shock. A strange scent had sent her fawn-like pelt standing on end. It smelled like fire smoke and blood, a scent only told in the nightmarish tales Morven passed to Iris. Her light-tinted ears went back and she bared her teeth in a fearful smile, "What is that? It smells like how Morven described the Fallen..." She bolted in front of Boyd. Excitement put a spring to her step. What she didn't know was how dangerous this was. The undead stag was chewing the grass down to the bare earth in an attempt to calm his feirce hunger, not caring nor seeing anything around him. His sharp hooves dug up earthworms whenever he felt one undernethe. He ate those too. He could slowly feel the metallic hunger growing soft. He could control it now. As he ate, his stiff legs carried him around his little pasture clearing. His grass turned into a black hoof. The bones of his face bumped into the appendage with a clacking noice. He rose his head to glance at the orange female. His glowing red ember eyes widened. A few balde of grass and clumps of dirt fell from his mouth. "Who....What?" Gluttony rasped in his rusty voice. Her fire eyes stared at him in awe. Gluttony's hunger for some reason didn't raise in the presence of this lifeform. He backed up a few steps to get a compleate look at the strange female. "A Fallen!" he heard her gasp. His gaze fell. "A monster more like it," he huffed.
