I was wondering if anyone else here sews their own clothes, whether it be for everyday, costumes, formal, whatever. This past summer I made a lot of dresses for all the damnable weddings I had to go to since it was waaaay more cost effective, but when it comes to everyday patterns I find the selection of patterns a wee bit lacking. So...
Do you make stuffs?
Does anyone know any good patterns or companies that make neat looking everyday-wear, especially pants? Like maybe kinda punky pants?
Post pics of stuffs you've made.

Wow that Yuna dress is awesome! heart Those are all really good.
My mom gave me a sewing machine and I was going to try to make a dress for a Halloween costume but then I got pregnant and my body started changing shape at a rapid pace so I never got around to it. I can't even remember how to use the sewing machine from the last time I used one in middle school. But I do plan to try it again one day.

Thankees biggrin
I just recently got a new machine since the crappy one i bought for myself a few years ago finally died. Good lord these new ones do everything for you now. All I have to do is punch in some buttons about what stitch i want and what kind of fabric I'm using and it sets all the tension and width setting for me automatically. 'Tis a beautiful thing.

I only hand sew stuff at the moment sad
But I am asking for a sewing machine this Christmas since I'll never be able to afford one on my own pay :/
Well, not a good one I think.
My Grandmother is an expert sewer so she can teach me as well. I am grateful I have such a great teacher in my life. biggrin

I wish. ;_; I can't sew a straight seam on a machine to save my life. Though it has been years since I tried and last time I was sewing on machines was back when I was mangling my knitting, so maybe I'd be better now. I'm fine with hand sewing, but it's ridiculously slow if you want to do it right.

I sew some stuff, and I would be making more except first, there are no good fabric stores in my area, and second, my sewing machine is literally sixty years old and my mom lost the manual so half the time I don't even know how to thread it.
But when it does work, I usually make myself lolita skirts and such. I'd rather not buy a simple rectangle skirt if I really don't have to. No pics though.

Where did you find patterns for lolita skirts, or did you make them up yourself? My fabric stores kinda suck too, but sometimes I've had luck with Fabric.com. Their inventory is constantly changing and their shipping rates are usually pretty good.

I recently started sewing my own clothes. I can't afford to shop anywhere but Walmart, but lately I've had a lot of trouble finding things that are cheap, fit my style, and fit my body type. Everything I make is handsewn, because I kill sewing machines and pretty much any non-mac electronic.
I've also been doing a good deal of embroidery since this summer, when I did a fiber internship in Montreal.
Oh, and ever since the Simplicity Kimono Incident of '04, I have refused to use patterns.

The Simplicity Kimono Incident of 04? I'm afraid to ask.
I've been really impressed with the fabric selection at WalMart recently. Back in the day they used to only carry various forms of broadcloth, but now they've got really nice fabrics like charmeuse and organza. Yay for cheapy cloth!!
You hand sew? I'm impressed. Like honestly. I tried to handsew a pair of gloves and afterwards my hands were a bloody mess and none of the stitches were even close to even. Kudos to you.

I had a professional seamstress and a member of the sewing guild of America helping me, and we still couldn't decipher the pattern. We ended up improvising about 3/4 of the sleeves. That was the year I made 2 kimono. I had to buy new fabric for the first one, because the print was in one direction and the the weave was another It was a very odd error, but one that would have completely thrown off the drape of the material. The second kimono was thrown together in 48 hours, three days before judging.

Oooh, do you have pictures? I would so love to have a kimono.
I have to hand sew a couple of linings into some little purses I crocheted for Christmas gifts and I am putting it off because I suck at it. I also have to put some zippers in them and I have never done that before.
I don't have a Wal-Mart nearby yet (they are building one soon) and my Super Target doesn't even have a craft section! Boo! lol

Indeedly, kimono pictures of goodness would be lovely to see.
Good lord, I hate sewing zippers, even with those special zipper feet thingies. Every pattern has a different method for putting it in, and I can never seem to get it just quite perfect. Bah I say, Bah.

I think that JoAnns has decent prices for velvet, but I've never bought velvet.
Sadly, I do not have pictures of the kimono, and I"m unable to take any. I'm currently several thousand miles away from 90% of my sewing/knitting projects.
