Does anyone here do cross stitch? I love it but I have never once finished a piece. I always buy huge elaborate ones and get a lot done but then I find another one I like and start it! I had to give it up when my son was born but when he gets a little older I am going to make it a goal to finish the one I was working on last, in honor of my mother who passed away last month. She bought it for me. It's a circle of all the astrological signs and has a moon, a sun, and clouds.

I started cross-stitch in elementary school. biggrin It's fun and relaxing and I'm decent at it (it's kind of hard not to be since all you're doing is making x's). I just don't do it much anymore because it's not as practical... I never like, WORE the things I made or anything.

Yeah, you're right they aren't very practical. I don't know what I would have done with the things if I had finished one, besides frame it or something. OMG that reminds me of something I was going to make my boyfriend for Christmas! (I've got too many projects going on!) Check it out - Princess Peach Cross Stitch ShirtBut I'm doing it on a tie and it will NOT be the princess, lol.

haha. XD I should totally do the pacman one for my sister. Except that I'm already knitting her a pacman scarf for Christmas. But maybe next Christmas she'll get cross-stitched pacman stuff. XD

I used to do a lot of cross stitching when I was in 4-H in elementary school and competed in those little nerdy contests. I've still got one or two projects I started and haven't completed yet, but I haven't touched them in years at this point.
I made some cute pillows once, that was kinda practical.

When you made your pillow, did you cross stitch onto some fabric or did you just fill the aida with stuff? I thought about doing a pillow before but I couldn't decide how to make it work, lol.

I call cross-stitch one of my main hobbies, but have sadly neglected it badly since picking knitting and crochet back up. I now have a stitch piece that's been in progress for 4ish years I think. My favorite designer is Teresa Wentzler; I love her dragons and particularly fancy the large, epic designs.

Oooh those are pretty! I like the dragons too, never tried one though. I found a pattern book filled with space shuttles and planets, that was my favorite one.

AmigurumiJain When you made your pillow, did you cross stitch onto some fabric or did you just fill the aida with stuff? I thought about doing a pillow before but I couldn't decide how to make it work, lol. I picked a colored cross stitch fabric with a tight weave, trimmed around the finished design to make it a little closer, and then picked some coordinating backing fabric and trim. I suppose you could just go to town on normal whatever fabric, but I'd never keep all the little stitches the same. If my camera had batteries right now, or if I could find the damn charger, I'd upload a picture of it to better show it. confused

Aaah, makes sense. I'd love to see it if you get your camera juiced up.

Well, I looked around but I think I gave away the little cat pillow during college at some point. Or left it somewhere stupid. But I did find my Coca-cola pillow which was only cut into a lame rectangle. It's on a cream fabric to match the coke bottle highlights. I think the lesson here is I need to keep better track of my stuff. And that my camera flash is inconsistent.

Thanks!
I don't know if it's still for sale, but there was a whole book of like 10 different cross stitch patterns all on coke themes. Whoo hoo.

Oh, I used to love cross stitching. Back when I was in middle-school I had an elderly couple that lived in the apartment below me. Their whole family lived across the country so they "adopted" my sister and I, lol. The lady always did lots of cross stitch, so she always helped me out, gave me thread, let me borrow pattern books, etc. Good memories heart
I still try to do some every now and then, but I always get bored before I finish. redface Which is such a shame...because they have some cute Care Bears kits out now. *pouts*
