This is a story I made up a year ago (with some changes) that turned out pretty well. It could use some updates but I will do that later. This uses the names of characters people should know, but in a time not of the one in the games. Just kinda play along with it.

And no. I do not have the characters from the game accurate to what they are like in the game...and they aren't supposed to be. So don't comment about that. :l

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our story begins with a young man name Reikei stealing a sacred heirloom from a small chateau called “Castle Royale”. The heirloom is known across the land as “Masamune”. This dagger was once the sword of the Death God, Sephiroth. The dagger would be known as the sign of Reikei’s power. Reikei’s element is the lunar moon. Every time the moon shines in on him, he gains fighting spirit from when he is about to enter battle. Anytime moonlight shines in, he gains fighting spirit.
“Hey you! What are you doing on our Holy Ground?!”, shouted one of the Imperial Guards towards a dark figure creeping in the window. The figure just glanced toward the guard, with a shimmer coming out of the corner of his eyes. “Not telling, eh? Well it seems we will have to change that!” The guard rushed towards the dark figurer with his lance pointed towards it. The clouds parted away from the lunar moon revealing his identity. The man’s eyes were a green tint with a long, white coat. His hair was a red-orange color with a black, semi-undershirt and black pants. “You! You’re-?!”, the guard said, screeching to a stop. Reikei just merely looked at him from the corner of his eye and stated, “Get out of my way.” He swept the guards feet from beneath him. “Nobody will disrupt my infiltration!”, he shouted, kicking the guard across his face and cracking his neck.
The castle had begun to go under heavy guard after finding the lifeless body of a guard lying on the ground. Darn. I should have planned that out a little better, he thought to himself. Guards were by every door now, on the lookout for any sign of Reikei. Reikei came across yet another guard as a thought appeared in his mind. The next guard he saw he was going to knock out and steal his armor. Then he would sneak into the Trophy Room where his plunder was located, Masamune.
A guard walked into the room Reikei was in, just as planned. The Imperial Guard was not like the last one he had killed. The moon reflected through the window, shining off of the guard’s armor. Perfect, Rekei thought to himself with a grin emerging on his face. The guard lit a torch, emitting an orange glow around the room. He began mumbling to himself how boring the day was as Reikei sat back listening. The guard turned and finally noticed Reikei standing there there. Luckily, his job had become easier because the guard had taken his armor off to relax. The Imperial grabbed his lance, “Prepare to die!” He lunged at Reikei who just dodged it, only obtaining a scrape from the guards lance. “Too slow!”, Reikei said as he grabbed the guards lance and forced the hilt back, slamming into the guards stomach.
After Reikei took the armor, he put on the suit of armor. It seemed to be a little big for him and weighed him down quite a bit. Now then, where is that room, he pondered to himself. He wandered out of the room to the main hall where there stood a small group of Imperial guards watching over the entrance. “Erm... commander, sir! Can we help you in any way?”, the guards asked, referring to Reikei who had not known that he took a commanding officers uniform. “Yes, could you tell me where the Trophy Room is located? I seem to have forgotten,” he asked the guards.
“Of course! It is directly to the right after you go through the dining area just ahead through those doors,” one guard replied. They heard report of Reikei being in a certain wing of the castle and scattered to look for him but one of the guards.
“Good. Approximately how many guards are posted there currently?”
“None,” the guard said.
“None?” This had made Rekei's job so much easier.
“Correct. Would you like to assign any there?”, he asked.
“No, that is fine. I will check it out for myself,” Reikei replied.
“Is that so? Then may I ask your name?” The guard asked, as if quizzing Reikei. This came as a shock to him, knowing that his cover had been blown so quickly. “Well...umm...my name is...Reikei,” he responded knowing that it would be useless to try to resist the question.
“I apologize, but we have no Imperial guard who goes by that name in this castle,” he said as he removed his helmet to reveal his face. It looked as if it were the face of a prince. “I am the heir of the throne in this castle, Prince Shiku.” He then removed all of his armor, as did Reikei. Shiku drew a rapier from behind him and pointed it at Reikei. “Now that we are finished with the introductions, I can finish you.”
Rekei just grinned at Shiku. “Sorry, but I have no intention of dying today,” he said. Reikei turned and began to turn and flee. “Not so fast!”, Shiku exclaimed after noticing that Reikei was already in the dining room. Shiku began to get on his knees at a statue of a god and began praying to a god called Cloud. “Please o great lord of the skies, grant my weapon and myself thy strength so that I may vanquish the man that disturbed our holy ground!” After hearing this plea, Cloud, the God of Desire, descended from the heavens and appeared before Shiku. “I have heard thou prayers and will grant thee s small portion of my powers to strike down thy enemy,” Cloud responded. Shiku stood there in awe as, beside him, his rapier began to glow a radiant and pure light. He kneeled to Cloud and gratefully said to Cloud, “Thank you.” He was ready and had begun towards the Trophy Room after Reikei.
His eyes were set on his plunder that lay before his eyes in a glass case, the dagger of Sephiroth, Masamune. “Finally, after I have awaited so long for this moment,” Reikei said, removing the glass and lifting the dagger from its pedestal. Descending from the ceiling appeared to be a black-winged angel. Legends were told that an angel with black wings was to supposedly be Sephiroth, the God of Death. He appeared as Reikei kneeled down to acknowledge him. “My lord, I have obtained your power. Please, bless me with the power and greatness you possess!” Sephiroth stood with no emotion in his eyes or face, staring blankly at Reikei. “He who has attained the power of my blade, use it well to strike down any foe who may come in your way. I also have one favor I wish to ask of you, boy,” Sephiroth said.
“What is it my lord?”, Reikei asked, a little concerned.
“Go fourth to a castle called ‘Replicana’ and attain the power of an amulet called the ‘Amulet of Fatality’ for me. With it, I may reign divine wrath upon this godforsaken land,” Sephiroth demanded. His eyes finally showed an emotion of anger with a fiery glow of fury in them. “Y-yes my lord...”, Reikei replied in a shaky voice, given no choice. He knew this task could end up being the death of him but if he were to refuse this quest, Sephiroth would surely kill him right there. Just as Shiku entered, he saw Sephiroth ascending to the heavens and Reikei kneeling and saw the Masamune in a sheath on Reikei’s back. “I’m too late...But I won’t let you leave here with that!”, Shiku shouted furiously. Reikei just glared at Shiku. “I don’t have time to waste with you...”, he said. The moonlight shined in through the castles stain glass windows, emitting a colorful scene. Shiku drew his rapier and rushed to stab Reikei. Reikei drew Masamune and deflected Shiku thrust. While Shiku was staggering, Reikei jabbed the dagger into Shiku gut, making sure to not hit any vitals. Shiku fell to his knee’s and lay on the ground in a red puddle of his blood, unconscious. Reikei went over and picked up the boy and threw him over his shoulder. "Sorry, but I cannot let you die here."
Reikei headed out and made a camp. Once he made the encampment, he bandaged up Shiku and applied pain-killers to the wounds and washed out the wound. Once Shiku awoke, his first words were, “W...where am I?” Reikei looked over to him as he cooked dinner. “I’m sorry, but I will need you for my plans. You will need to work with me whether you like it or not.”
Time skip: 2 years later
Two years have passed since Reikei and Shiku’s first meeting. Over the years, they have become great companions and stolen highly valuable objects from multiple different places. It varied from places such as town market shops and castles. They had met different gods other than Cloud and Sephiroth now. There was the Holy God, Aeris, and the Titan of Destruction, Jenova. All that stealing was training though for the much bigger goal. The objective was to retrieve an amulet at Castle Replicana known as the Amulet of Fatality, which powers were unknown.
“We must make this heist quick and short,” said Reikei. “Have you created a map of the castle?”
“Yes,” Shiku replied. “Both night and day. It seems much more heavily guarded at night than in the day.”
“Perfect. Then the heist will take part tonight,” Reikei responded, a smirk arising across his face. They awaited the upcoming night, plotting their route and readying the supplies. The day was passing and they were becoming as anxious as ever. Though the mission would be very risky, that would be the same reason it would be fun.
Finally, the night rolled over the country side. By then, Reikei board and Shiku had already been located outside of the castle. “Castle Replicana, huh? Sounds like a piece of cake,” Reikei replied sarcastically. “Let the infiltration commence!”, he shouted.
They snuck into the castle through a first story window where the parlor was located. Shiku went on ahead to scout out the area, only to notice that all of the guards were asleep or knocked out. What is the reason for this. It is very unlikely that they all were to fall asleep before their shifts end, Shiku thought. Past all of the guards, they came upon the entrance to their destination. Reikei shifted his eyes over to Shiku. “This was too easy and you know. Be weary,” he said to Shiku in a low, hardly hearable voice. A horrible feeling swept over them like a plague. “Can you feel it? This uncertainty?”, Shiku asked. “Yeah,” Reikei answered. “I don’t know what this is though. I know it is not Sephiroth. Even his aura wasn’t this sinister. Yet there is also a feeling of purity and justice. Be ready.”
The amulet was in their sight now and they approached it cautiously. Down from the heavens descended Aeris and from the ground entered Jenova. Having both gods appear at once astonished them as they stared. Neither of the two spoke a word, but Reikei and Shiku knew they wanted the amulet. Aeris wanted to destroy it and Jenova wanted to use it to reign over the kingdom. “Where is Sephiroth?! I was supposed to hand it over to him!”, Reikei shouted furiously. “I killed him,” Jenova replied. Reikei was shocked by this. “B-but how...?!” He fell to his knee’s. Sephiroth had been somebody Reikei looked up to after his parents died. He had prayed to him every night, hoping to meet Sephiroth in person. This THING...what is it?!, Shiku thought. Aeris transferred a thought telepathically to Reikei saying, Destroy the amulet with Masamune to be able to resist any type of illness or disease. If you use it, it will do the complete opposite. So please, I beg you, destroy the amulet with Masamune!
Reikei understood this. “Shiku! Put your hand on the amulet and I will strike it!” Shiku did as he was told and Reikei struck the Amulet of Fatality swiftly, destroying it. “....Thank you...” Aeris told them as the ascended to heaven. “You fools!”, Jenova yelled. “I will destroy you!” Shiku took out his still holy rapier that Cloud blessed. He swiftly moved behind her stealthily and stabbed her though her back. She felt her power fading away as the pure blade spread its holy light throughout her vile body. "You...after how far we have come...YOU killed Sephiroth! You b*****d!!!", Shiku shouted. “H-h-how could....I lose to....the likes of such inferior humans...?! ARGGGG!” Those were Jenova’s last words as her body dissipated into the air.
“Whew,” both Reikei and Shiku said as they fell to the ground and laid there. “What an adventure.” They left the castle and Shiku revealed something he had taken while in there. It was an extremely expensive jewel that they could sell and live like kings. "I knew you still had some thief left in you," Reikei said, smiling at Shiku with a wide grin.
Years later: Shiku and Reikei stole multiple things throughout the land and became widely known. They died because of infiltrating an enemy campus during a way and being caught. Once caught they were killed by being put on wooden posts in the Colosseum in Greece and being attacked by gladiator’s armed with swords from virtually every direction 15 years later.
