Hi everyone! If you're new to the guild, this is the place to introduce yourself.

I'll start off with myself: I'm currently a college student studying chemistry and Japanese. I was first exposed to origami in second grade when I was taught how to fold a paper crane, although I haven't been constantly folding origami since then.

I recently rediscovered origami after running across some websites with modular origami. Hoshit I love that stuff. Soo amazing. x_x

Hello smile
I am a novice at Origami.
Having tried it some years back and liked it, but never had any place to learn the techniques... until this Guild came along!
The philosophy of simplicity and beauty of Origami has always drawn me to it.
I hope to learn how to make at least some of the intermediate level folds.

Glad to be in the Guild smile

Hi there, I'm also a college student, although I am studying Accounting. I remember doing origami back when I was young but never got hooked to it until last night. My Japanese friends had my fraternity brother and I make the paper crane and then build an airplane. So far the most complex that I have gotten to is the Lily, and also a candy dish.

HII!! You can call me Jia. I'm in 8th grade, and I actually just took the SSAT's this morning. (those are different from the SAT's...) I was introduced to origami in thrid grade when we did a unit on Japan, and then one day I went to the bookstore with my mom and I saw this origami book by Rick beech, or something like that, and I was like "Oh mom, we're learning about Japan in school, and origami's Japanese, can I get this book?" And it went on from there. The first model I ever folded was the simple cup. By the end of the year, me and my friends had folded at least a thousand gonk It was quite a sight. Well, now I love origami, and Gaia, and origami+gaia=me joining an Origami guild on Gaia! I love making the Magic Rose cube, and although this model is pretty simple, I love making boxes with wings. They're just so hilarious!

Hello :} My name is Chelsea, and I'm 19. I'm in my year break from high school to college. ^^;

I was introduced to origami in elementary school in art class, then later in high school thanks to Fan Chao, a girl who's parents came to America a couple years back.

I never really got into origami until lately. I'm currently working on the thousand crane project. I don't know any really complicated origami; I've done a couple giraffes, an iris, and, of course, the cranes. I actually ordered a cute little Hello Kitty origami book from YesAsia. It's in Japanese, but the instructions are easy (it's meant for younger children, so it's easy to read xD), and I've been fiddling with that.

I live by myself, and unfortunately, origami paper here is pretty expensive, so I can't always have it. ($4 for 32 sheets of the plain stuff, then the really nice chiyogami can run $10-20 for 8 sheets. There's only one art store here; the nearest art outlet is an hour away.

But still. It's a lot of fun. (: Looking forward to this guild. heart

Aww, there's nothing worse than expensive paper. Have you tried Amazon.com at all? I actually got a pretty good deal on origami paper from there. Let me see if I can find a link...

Ah, here we go. It's $12.95 for 500 sheets of 6"x6" paper plus whatever shipping costs are. I bought the 100 pack a few weeks ago, although I can't find the specific URL right now. The paper is nice for practicing models, although it certainly isn't the super high-quality stuff you'd want to put in a showcase or anything. It's a little pulpy and thus can wear easily if you're doing a lot of folding on one sheet, but it's nice because it's colored on both sides.

*Gasp* That's amazing! xD Don't know why I didn't try looking online. Only thing is, I'd have to get a credit card. neutral PayPal doesn't like my checking account for some reason. But, still, it's nice to know the option is there. o: Thanks! heart

The main reason why my paper is so expensive is because it's actually Japanese; really high-quality stuff, and imported. On top of that, the art store is a home-made business, and they have a tendency not to succeed here (*CoughWALMARTcough*), so they have to gouge the prices. Ich.

Hello~! It's not my real name, but I would like to be called Kito~ >W< I love origami~! I'm in 9th grade and I was introduced to origami in the... 4th grade? It's rather funny. It was Valentine's Day and my friend was making some lanterns and I got jealous because everyone was paying attention to her. So I took a piece of paper and tried folding it really weird and somehow, I made a heart! From there on, I ordered almost every origami book they sold at our school's book fair. Ha ha xD

Anyways, I look forward to this guild. ^^ heart >W<

Alo!!! My name is Flo and i'm currently in 10th grade. I was first introduced to origami in fourth grade when my mom taught me how to make stars. I love origami so much, it is such a beautiful form of expression, but I still haven't been able to dedicate as much time as I'd like to this art, music, poetry and schoolwork come first. 3nodding I've folded the paper crane and box and other stuff but essentially I'm a beginner so I'm delighted that I could be invited to this guild, and can't wait to see what I can learn 4laugh

Hey, I am Indigo_Snow_Leopard. for lack of a better name. I first experienced origami in the fourth grade while reading one thousand paper cranes. our class learned how to make them and I've been making them ever since. out of whatever I have handy. hershey kiss wrappers. paper place mats in pizza restaurants. programs at events involving the use of programs. these paper materials are not square so I taught my self how to make them that way. right so I started using a page a day calendar last year. I'm still on march. I'm trying, I swear.

My friends call me Felix (so named for a Felix the Cat sweater I used to always wear - and yes I am a girl 3nodding ). I am currently an 11th grader and I also take a college course. I took Psychology last semester and I am currently taking Humanities.

My grandfather was the one who first introduced me to origami when I was around 5-6 years old. He showed me this old book full of origami models and I tried folding some of them. The first thing I made was a duck. biggrin

This is a funny thing, but when I first saw the book, I thought the dotted fold lines on the instruction illustrations were actually cutting lines... so I actually cut up a few pages. sweatdrop

My interest in origami peaked when I saw those little origami things you find in the gift stores for folding turtles, cranes, stars, etc. I actually didn't learn how to fold a crane until a long time later, and I think I actually learned how to do it from unfolding a crane. My friend May taught me how to fold stars. I also got an Origami kit that taught me how to fold more models, such as boxes. I eventually received the Origami book from my grandpa.

I use that book the most - it has many models that are different than the "average" ones that everybody seems to know. They're mostly animals and flowers. My personal favorite is the flying horse, or Pegasus (perhaps I'll post instructions sometime. smile ). It's a challenge to figure out sometimes, because sometimes the illustrations aren't clear, and the instructions are all in Vietnamese. The book is falling apart though. gonk It's ooollllddddd...

I also really like to fold paper stars. I want to fill a bottle/jar of them (but first I gotta get one...)!!! Cranes have actually lost their appeal to me. ^^; I also use Starburst wrappers to make little boats (or money if you prefer... I always thought they were boats).
