Name on Gaia: Lord Markenus

Name of Character: Rizien Matius

Gender: Male

Age: 319

Squad in and Position: First squad, Vice-Captain.

Bio: Rizien Matius was born into the 79th District of Rukongai, a rather lawless land. As a note, he had no impact upon the previous Vice-Captain or Captain of the 11th squad in any way at all, infact, he never even met them once. He received his Zanpakuto before becoming a Shinigami, having been given it by a mass-murdering, highly skilled Shinigami that, although having never achieved Shi Kai, managed to escape from the Seireitei with her life. This murder had managed to sneak into the Shinigami School several days before graduation and then proceeded to slaughter the graduating class, along with their instructors. She escaped to the 79th district, but, from her injuries when she stumbled upon Rizien, it was apparent that at least of the recent assassins had come very close to killing her. Dying, she decided to give her sword to Rizien, saying "so that this sword may one day see a great Shinigami impaled upon itself." Then she collapsed dead and Rizien ran off into a nearby forest.

The assassins that found her corpse noted she had no Zanpakuto with her, but dropped the investigation as no living person had even seen her Zanpakuto recently. With this sword Rizien soon picked a fight with one of the major local gang leaders. It was Rizien versus a horde of 79th district gang members, yet Rizien prevailed, destroying the entire gang. The reason behind this was that all of the other weapons in 79th district were quite "uncivilized" in comparison to a Zanpakuto, and were thus easily destroyed upon impact given that most of the weapons, due to the lack of general supplies, were wooden or made of some other inferior material. Though inexperienced, Rizien was perfectly suited to the sword's design, and was able to use it well. Having not sated his bloodlust yet, Rizien went ahead to wipe out eight more gangs in the 79th district, effectively obliterating half of the population in that district. With each defeat of a gang Rizien grew more experienced and more sadistic.

One day Rizien spotted a Shinigami in the distance, asking a 79th district member about the radical decrease in the 79th population in the last few weeks. Rizien may have been confident, but he was not suicidal. He ran away, knowing that more Shinigami would eventually come to slay him as he was getting out of hand. After weeks of travel and wadding through the various districts, Rizien finally arrived at the gates of the Seireitei. He was met by the Northern Gatekeeper and battled him. In battle Rizien had no hope of matching the strength of the giant at this point, so he tricked him. Rizien, through an intricate plan, eventually tricked the Gatekeeper into accidently throwing his weapon backwards, behind the gate. Going to retrieve it, and thus open the gate, Rizien rushed through the gate and disappeared from sight. He was safely inside the Seireitei now.

Requiring training Rizien enlisted in the Shinigami school, in the non-advanced class. During this time it became apparent that he had little patience for instructions and greatly annoyed the teachers. Rizien would listen to the instructions, but during practice he would purposely mess up horribly with his techniques. In secret Rizien practiced in the streets at night, rather than in the school at day. When test time came Rizien would ace the test with a near perfect score. These events baffled his teachers, as he’d flunk practice then take a test over the same subject only an hour later, passing with some extraordinary score. Rizien graduated from the school after several years, but he was not at all recommended, being cited as "unpredictable and a potential threat to any squad if he were to command." Rizien was, of course, livid upon hearing this information. Such a poor, yet sadly accurate, recommendation crippled his chances of getting any higher than the absolute lowest rank in the squad he joined, Squad 9. For this Rizien never forgave the Shinigami and even now bears a grudge against Squad 9.

His fortune changed for the better when he was reassigned to 1st Squad. Immediately upon his entry and very first assignment he was promoted by the captain at the time for being, as the captain described it "Suspicious, but if used as a weapon against the enemy a true asset." The captain was replaced soon after by a man named Naro Efecki, who took over 1st Squad. Rizien was, at that time, the 6th seat of the squad. For reasons unknown to him Rizien was suddenly promoted to Vice-Captain of the 1st Squad. Rizien has been the Vice-Captain of 1st Squad for a significant period of time now, his skills having dramatically improved during this time. Rizien has grown to deeply respect his captain as well, and now the rest of his future remains uncertain, leaving only his own twisted version of time to tell.

Personality: Rizien Matius is at the same time both a humble man from one point of view and a monster from most others. First, and perhaps most importantly, Rizien Matius is a sadist, deriving happiness from harming others. He believes that the men he commands are at best "expendable" and at worst "obstacles needed to be removed". To his superiors, though, his attitude is different. Despite being fully aware of the consequences for disobeying orders, Rizien refuses to even pay lip service to those higher-ups he does not respect. If he respects them, he will follow them to his grave, but if he does not, then he will follow them to their grave, of that he will make certain.

He is an excellent tactician, but does not show it as he often makes foolish "accidental" errors that end up with more of his men being killed than necessary. Rizien even does, when he is certain that no one besides him will survive, will occasionally allow for the enemy, Hollow or otherwise, to kill all his men. To that end, Rizien even assists the enemy in the effort. Then, when it was asked what happened to his squad, and why everyone was killed, he would merely comment that it was "unavoidable". He does this because of revenge, to get back at the Shinigami for what they did to him hundreds of years ago. As is apparent, Rizien is not at all forgiving for others past sins. He is monstrous in other ways, as the "no forgiveness" policy he follows includes combat, in that each combat except with ones he respects is a battle to the death, unless, of course, he begins to lose. Merciless when he wins, but if he begins to lose will start looking for escape routes. Still, he is intelligent enough to realize when he cannot escape and is very brave in battle when he wishes to be, which, sadly, is not often. Rizien places his life above his honor, since he believes that it is simply a word, not a concept. Likewise, cheap tricks and other morally corrupt methods of victory are not beyond him.

When not in action Rizien is devious and ever suspicious. Almost no one in Soul Society trusts him as his manner of speak is both indirect and uses just the right words to keep him on a very fine line. His speak is enough to make him be suspicious and hated, but not enough to bring the authorities to investigate him. Overly confident normally, and an egomaniac, he truly believes himself to be more deserving than being a mere Shinigami. He sometimes taunts his foes into a rage, being very observant about the personal weaknesses in each individual that would set them off. Rizien himself is not very susceptible to taunting on the outside, but inside he documents every offense anyone has committed against them in order to give him "ample reason" for striking back. Often a liar, but a good one at that, Rizien tricks the few subordinates he leaves alive into doing his bidding. He prefers to destroy people on the inside before destroying them externally, only so that he could cause them more pain. Rizien is suspicious on the outside, but devilish on the inside.

Appearance: Rizien stands at 182.88 centimeters tall (6 Feet tall) and weighs 76.66 kilograms (169 Pounds). Rizien is fair skinned and his general build is not imposing. He looks as through he has a rather trim, not very muscular build, but that is untrue. If he showed his muscles it would quickly become obvious that he is very strong and is holding back his real strength from view. In a moment Rizien could turn his appearance from a simple man to a muscular powerhouse by flexing. His face is quite symmetrical, almost handsome, but most people lose that impression once he shifts his eyes towards them. Rizien has a very strange eye colour; purple. This highly unusual trait often keeps him from being well liked by his appearance.

His smile is neutral at almost all times, but he tends to slightly smile with the left side of his lip when pleased. When he is unhappy Rizien often bites the right side of his lip slightly downward to show displeasure. His hair is quite long, reaching down to his lower back, and silver. As an important note Rizien's Zanpakuto is not at all apparent on his person, making him appear though he is unarmed.

Lastly Rizien wears a standard Shinigami Uniform with his Vice-Captain badge on his upper left arm. Aside from the standard uniform Rizien has several accessories on his person. The first of these is a beaded necklace he wears around his neck, with the beads being opaque. Rizien wears a white headband around his forehead at all times. Even in combat he is very protective of this headband and he will never take it off, even in his sleep; no one knows what undoubtedly horrible secret he hides beneath it. Finally he wears a straw hat on his head when he travels and during light combat duties.

Zanpakuto Name: Tenrai-Heru, which in Jap. means "Divine Hell"

Zanpakuto Shi Kai Name: Tenrai Kaosu Heru, which in Jap. means "Divine Chaos Hell"

Zanpakuto Ban Kai Name: ???

Zanpakuto Appearance: Tenrai-Heru appears to be a simple katana in terms of overall appearance, with several minor variations. There are runic markings etched into the blade, all of them from a extinct language not used for well over a millenia. The sword blade, aside from the etchings, would appear to be stream-lined, as if it was just sharpened. Upon touching the blade, however, it is unusually warm to the touch, as if left out in the afternoon sun. Lastly, the hilt is in the shape of a swastika. {There is a double meaning there. The original swastika was mean to symbolize peace, and thus the Tenrai part of the blade. The...Different version of the swastika represented war, and thus the Heru part of the blade. I honestly could think of no other symbol to put as the hilt that could resemble Tenrai-Heru as closely. Having said that, if ANYONE has an issue with the swastika being the hilt I apologize in advance and will change it right away.}

Zanpakuto Shi Kai Appearance: Tenrai-Heru splits into two blades with the
bottom of their handles being connected by a flexible vine covered with thorns. Both blades are significantly larger than the original Tenrai-Heru, twice as large to be exact. A note is that Rizien's purple eyes glow while his Shi Kai is active. Other than that there are no differences between the appearance of the Shi Kai and the appearance of the original.

Zanpakuto Shi Kai: The Shi Kai of Tenrai-Heru is that of a duel blade, with two variations in addition to the standard transformation into a duel blade. The first addition is that everyone within a one hundred meter radius begins to hallucinate, with the exception of whoever is holding Tenrai-Heru, be it Rizien or someone else. The hallucinations draw out horrific scenes of murders, all painted in crimson. These murders all derive themselves from Tenrai-Heru's victims, and how each was slain. As an important note, the hallucinations can be resisted occasionally. The other effect is that whenever Tenrai-Heru is in Shi Kai a song can be heard by anyone within a radius of three hundred meters. This song is very chilling and dark. It sounds similar to a chorus singing some demonic song. Yet, the chorus cannot be found, and thus the music will never stop unless Tenrai-Heru comes out of Shi Kai. Rizien states that it is the voices of the victims Tenrai-Heru slew at the Academy all those years ago. Whether this is an accurate statement or not is yet to be confirmed.

Zanpakuto Shi Kai Release Command: Yuuku, Tenrai Kaosu Heru! (Fear, Divine Chaos Hell!)

Zanpakuto Ban Kai Appearance: ???

Zanpakuto Ban Kai: ???

Notes: Rizien's favourite season is winter. He prefers to eat very...Odd foods. Lastly, he tends to go on very long walks by himself often.
