I haven't seen anyone even mention this book and that made me wonder what the general opinion of it was. Is it not mentioned because it wasn't well recieved or is it something else?

I remember enjoying it well enough. It was interesting in that it focussed far more on his life pre vampirism than post vampirism.

I've just got through a phase of reading most of her non-chronicle books and I must say I was rather disappionted in Vittorio. It felt to me like she'd written it in a haste, not only was it much too short but I missed her usual fill of rich details.

I thought the slight change in writing style was intentional. I thought RIce had done this to further distance this character from the other vampires. Vittorio himself says in the opening pages that he is nothing like, nor knows not personally the vampires of the "coven of the articulate. That band of strange romantic vampires in and from the Southern New World City of New Orleans who have regaled you already with so many chronicles and tales." I figured that the slight change in style was because the books were from this new and separate point of view.
