I have a question regarding Adobes Shockwave player that someone here may be able to answer.

I understand that there hasn't been a linux port of the plugin and the only way that seems to run it under linux in using CodeWeavers Crossover tool. Is there any other way to get this to work or will I have to reboot into windows?

Yes Shockwave player has not been ported to Linux, but their are ways around it, with out having to pay for Crossover. My openSUSE 10.3 box comes with a lib file that offers both flash and shockwave formats, it is called libflashplayer.so

In order to add media support to Linux I find that all you need is the following:
VLC Mozilla plugin (and/or) Mplayer Mozilla plugin
Java Plug in
Helix DNA Plugin
Shockwave Flash

That should get you everything but activeX support, which can be simply fixed by using wine to run a windows web browser.

To see what you have support for, using Firefox, just type
about:plugins
into the address bar.
