As the old story goes, this forest once burned to the ground some long time ago. Then, miracuously, it sprung back to life, even bigger that before. On top of that, the animals returned as well. It was then renamed after the mythical bird and became the second most known forrest in the world. This forest also connects, and makes a natural barrier between the elven and Human kingdom. There are also patrols running through it from time to time, either human or elven. Depending upon which kingdom you're closer too.

Fenali was wandering through a dense forest. She'd known it since she was younger, though she hadn't been home for the longest time. It was familiar like the back of her hands, or her bow she carried with her at all times. The forest was quiet, except for the occasional rustle of bushes from the scampering of wild animals running about. Her companion Zroa, was circling above her, high up into the sky, keeping watch for anyone who might be heading towards her. Fenali kept her mind open so she could hear Zroa if need be. She'd been wandering about like this for an hour or so, not knowing exactly what she was looking for, just knowing that she needed to find something and it was in the forest. Fenali picked up her pace until she reached a small opening. It looked harmless enough to her so she stopped at the base of a large tree. It's trunk was easily ten feet wide or so. Fenali set down all her belongings and sat down cross-legged at the bottom of the tree trunk. Zroa, cirlced around once and landed gracefully on one of the limbs above her, he let out a low hoot to let her know he was there. Fenali nodded once. "Old friend, I know not what I am looking for...do you have any ideas?" Fenali asked aloud. Zroa cocked his head to the side once and did not reply. Fenali managed to ignore him for the time being. She took out her wooden flute her mother had given her and held it up to her full lips. Fenali inhaled slightly and exhaled into the flute, her song spreading out into the forest as she did so. Her music was soothing to her ears as well as Zroa's, it seemed he had fallen asleep, he was one odd little creature.

Roth had been sent on a small errand by his superiors to check the various small streams that were in the Pheonix forest for tiny red stones. It always sounded absurd to him when they sent him on a task that sounded inane, but apparently this was very important. Despite his confusion, he was assured that it would be explained to him later. Now, he was in the process of checking a stream when he noticed something approaching him from the corner of his eye. It was a baby bear, and where there was a baby bear, there was a mother bear. " Shoo, go away." He hissed at it. It was too late to scare it off however, as the mother bear had caught up to it. Roth quickly drew his sword from its sheathe as it gave out a growl. From there, Roth slowly stepped backwards for a way, until he could swear that he could hear music. The bears still continued to follow him until he reached a small opening in the forest where the music was loudest, when he reached it, the bears turned and left.

Fenali continued playing her flute until a strange vibe alerted her. She looked up and she saw a couple bears turning away and a male figure. He seemed to be an elf as well so she relaxed, but only so little. Fenali's hand shot towards her bow on her back and in one swift movement, she loaded it and aimed at the figure. Zroa was instantly awakened as he heard the tightening of her bow string. He let out a shrill cry and shot up into the air, almost getting ready to dive-bomb the other figure if need be. Fenali's eyes were locked on the target as she began to speak, her voice even and smooth though her words were of a violent nature. "State your means of business or I will shoot you down where you stand, what is your name?" Fenali's words were harsh even to her ears but she stood her ground either way. Her companion was still circling in the air, waiting for Fenali to give him the word of command.

Roth breathed a sigh of relief to see the bears had fled, then a small snort to find he had another problem. To make it worse, whomever was ordering him to state him name and business was behind him, his back was turned. He dropped his sword and raised his hands up to ear level. He would have turned to face what he assumed was female, but she said' shoot' So that meant that she had some projectile weapon. So facing her with a sword in hand was a bad idea. " I was sent into the forest by my employer, My name is Roth." He answered. Usually the questions continued, so he stayed as he was.

Fenali stood her ground. So, he was supposedly sent to the forest, for what reason she did not know but she didn't really want to find out in the first place. Zroa screeched impatiently, wanting nothing more than to strike at the stranger at that very moment. Sending her thoughts out to Zroa, she told him to hold on for just a moment. "Well, Roth, who exactly is your employer?" To make sure he'd answer her, Fenali gently prodded him in the back with the tip of her arrow, just for assurance. The wind started to pick up a bit and Fenali's dark hair swirled around, being thrown this way and that by the wind thought it did nothing to relax her stance.

Roth felt the prodding of his back and knew that he'd better think of something quick, he was hoping for different question. Then it came to him. "He's a geologist, he sent me to inspect the various streams in the forest for something irregular." The majority of that explanation was actually true, he was checking the stream, this was also a geographical assignment. Hopefully that was good enough for her. Luckily for Roth, he was keeping his cool and not becoming nervous. Which is why he was glad they didn't make Kale come with him. He was hoping Kale was doing far better then he currently was.

Fenali thought over what he had said for awhile, it seemed to be an alright alibi, was it true though she did not know. Keeping her bow loaded with her arrow, Fenali moved cautiously to the left of Roth to face him full front. He looked normal, like a human of sorts, but a closer look told her that he was not a human but an elf. Fenali lowered her bow just a fraction at this new discovery, but she still kept the string taught. "Geologist huh? Somehow that whole story seems a bit....oh, fake, but I'll take it for now. Oh, but a fair warning, if you try anything my companion will be on you quicker than a vampire in the presence of blood." As if Zroa heard her, he let out a shrill screech. "My name is Fenali by the way." Still wary of him though, she unloaded her bow and put her arrow back in her quill. Fenali bowed her head slightly as a greeting.

After a short time of silence, he saw she moved to the left of his to get a better look. It was no surprise she thought he was human for a moment, he had all but lost the presence and elf carries. On top of that, he only had one long, pointed ear sticking out from his grey, slightly shaggy hair. As the other one was clipped, also the guard that covered his mouth hid more of the common elven features." Think what you may, it's the truth." He said, finally lowering his arms. His eye's darted over to Zroa when he shrilled "I'll take note of that." He added, though he had no intention of 'trying anything'. He then relaxed slightly, now hat he knew the danger had gone. Now he had a question, though he had already guessed the answer. "Well then Fenali, what are you doing so deep in the forest?"

Fenali let her eyes wander as he stayed silent. When he'd asked her what she was doing though, her focus shot right back at him. She wasn't used to so much, person to person interface but apparently this was going to be one of those times. She kept her thoughts to herself and didn't say anything for awhile, but eventually she gave in. "Well, I'd been gone for so long, I thought I'd come back home and visit with old relatives or something, then I got side-tracked and stopped by here. When I was younger, I came by here all the time and I was just coming to do just the same," Fenali paused for a second. "Oh, sorry for telling you all that, I'm sure you didn't really want to know about my somewhat, boring and dull childhood." Fenali laughed lightly at herself. Zroa had seemed to be comfortable for how things were going so he dived at a steep angle and pulled up only just in time to land on Fenali's arm that was held out for him. "Oh, this is my friend Zroa." Fenali stroked his crest feathers to calm him down a bit, he was still hostile.

"I see then, personal reasons." He commented, bending down to pick back up his sword. He wouldn't have asked, but if she knew something of him, then he felt he should have some information on her. It made him uncomfortable to be on uneven ground. He sheathed his sword and looked to the bird she just introduced. " I see, hello then." He couldn't believe he just exchanged pleasantries with s bird. Just then a throwing knife flew past his nose, and a hoarse voice rang out from the safety of the forest. " Your money or your life!" From under the guard that covered his mouth, Roth Frowned. Things always went like this. Then there was another warning shot, an arrow was shot at the tree, showing there was more of them. " Last Chance! Throw it out in front of you and lay down on your stomachs!" Roth looked to Fenali for a moment, with his hand at his sword. Ready to draw it at and moment. He doubted they'd just take their money and go.

Fenali looked the direction the projectiles came at. Luckily for them though, that they were shrouded by the shadows and trees. Her hands instincively went for her quill full of arrows and her bow that was slung over her shoulder. Zroa took off into the air to scan the premesis for the sign of the attackers. Fenali ducked off to one side, almost certain that she'd be covered up and concealed. She reached up and grabbed Roth by his shirt and yanked him downward. "Seems that this is the welcoming committee and we're the guests of honor." Fenali smiled her signature half smile and dove off into the shrubs. Quickly and stealthily, Fenali wove her way through the bushes and then all went silent. A couple minutes later there was an audible "oof" sound and one of the men flew into the middle of the opening."Well, can we say sexist much?" Fenali taunted, aiming her arrow at the man. Another throwing knife whizzed by the trees and barely missed Fenali, it only grazed her cheek. Her hand flew up to where she was hit and she scowled angrily. "ZROA!" In a flurry of feathers, her companion Zroa shot down from the air and dove down tried blindly attacking the attacker. "This is utterly hopeless....where is my dagger when I need it?" Fenali complained as she searched on her person for her missing dagger.

While Fenali dealt with the hidden attackers, Roth Readied himself for one that was taking a more direct approach. A dwarf with battle-axe raised high over its head charged out of the shadows at him. He quickly too out his sword as the dwarf let out a yell " Arrrgh!". The dwarf yelled to perhaps intimidate or confuse Roth. He was a little confused, but not intimidated. With luck and perfect timing, Roth dove to the left of the Dwarf's vertical strike. Since it would take a moment for the dwarf to lift it back up, it was time to strike. Roth took a giant step forward, and with it he brought a massive horizontal swing. It Struck the Dwarf in the upper arm, the leather armor protected it a little, but a large gash was left that made the dwarf flinch and let go of the axe with his left hand. Said dwarf also fell to one knee. Roth followed that attack by raising the sword above his head, then bashing the dwarf in the head with the hilt of the sword. Then, from the bushes another knife was flung, the blade was small, but it stuck well into Roth's back. "Nggh.."Roth grunted in pain.

Zroa came up high into the air, wounded but not severely. Fenali bursted out of the thick shrubs and bushes. Swiftly, to not give them an opening, Fenali turned around and....tripped. She landed on the ground hard. She groaned almost inaudibly, she turned her head and saw a dwarf on the ground, probably passed out with his axe by his side, also she took notice at Roth. He'd been hit from behind, a cowardly move on their attacker's part. The bottled up anger inside of Fenali suddenly burst and she had a renewed vigor to continue her attack. She called on Zroa and he replied with a steep banked turn into the brush. Fenali was at Roth's side in a second flat. "Are you hurt badly?" Fenali asked quickly, keeping watch on all sides for another sneak attack. Zroa was screeching triumphantly, obviosly overjoyed that he'd attacked the assailants and was winning at the time being.

Roth let his right hand reach for the blade, it didn't feel too deep. After a small stretch, he touched it, however it was in a spot that he couldn't yank it out. "I'm fine, I don't think anything important is damaged." Which is what he said, but he would probably have to get it looked at later. Him taking down the dwarf must have scared some of them off, along with the intimidating screeches that came from Zroa. The battle was not yet over though, as three masked men wearing dirty leather armor charges from the bushes with hand axes and knives. Roth brought his sword to his side and rushed at them, taking a giant step as they got close enough and slashed horizontally. One dove to the right, one to the left, the one in the middle unfortunately had nowhere to dive to. These thieves had great numbers, but foolish tactics.
