Robert and I were talking this morning and I have no idea what got us on this topic... but we're starting a big budget next semester in order to better save up for Germany next fall, and I just started thinking about also planning out in advanced our meals for about 1-2 week periods at a time - a menu, so to speak. I mean, we need to budget anyway, but we also need to get our stomachs ready for Germany, you know? And anyway it's not like we're going to need to be snacking all day, anyway... but Robert just started picking on me (like he enjoys doing a lot) and telling me that I was just freaking out and he doesn't think it'll be that bad.

Well.. I know it's not going to be that bad, but I'm planning for it to be that bad anyway... because it's better to over prepare than to under prepare and completely screw ourselves over, you know?

Anyway, that's just the way I was brought up. Always over budget and over prepare for everything, because it's better to plan for and think that things will be .. not necessarily BAD but difficult and then get there and find out it's wonderful than just go there with a naive mindset thinking everything will be fine but then get there and be screwed over and find out that everything's bad, you know?

You know, you know, you know... sorry, I'm saying that too much! I have verbal diahrrea of the fingers, right now. gonk

Anyway! Yeah, I grew up in a family of four and for the first 8 years of my life we were living in a crappy, small condo on about $13,000 a year, and then we lived in a (nice sized but not large) house after I was about 8-8.5 years old (and my parents still live there now) on about $20,000 a year. My family almost lost the house about 20 times in 5 years, but they managed it... you know how? They started over budgeting and planning for the worst... that and my parents now have 5 JOBS between the two of them. My dad also took the family's business on the route of architecture which is bringing it a LOT of new business...

Anyway! Back to my point... why does everyone think I'm too stingey with my money and too freaked out when I spend any of it? I have one month's rent and electrical bill left for this year before I get the next half of my refund for school (another $5,000) and I still have $4,500 left in my pockets because I've been budgeting when all of the rest of my friends got just as much for their refund yet they only have $100 or less left and are freaking out now tryign to get jobs. I think they should try budgeting and just leave me alone. talk2hand Either that or learn from their mistakes (though it's been about 3-5 years for most of them and none of them seemed to have learned anything from this happening EVERY semester...)....

Whatever.

Sorry if this rant didn't make any sense... the basic jist of what I'm trying to say is that I grew up in a family that was almost kicked out on the street just about every month until I was about 18 years old because of money troubles. My family learned, I learned with them. Now that I'm out (almost completely) on my own, I know how to handle my money... but every one seems to think I'm too careful with it... but I don't see them as having any room to speak because they blew all of theirs' and are now freaking out because they don't have enough for rent because they just NEEDED those movies, videogames, and junk food.

I seem to be making less and less sense as I ramble on... >>;;... sorry!

BLARG.
