FIRST IMPRESSIONS

As i popped the Halo 3 disc into my 360 i couldn't help thinking how amazing this was going to be. However to my dismay this game is not that much diffeent from previous Halo games. The graphics, while slightly improved and more detailed, were overall not a big improvment over the others. The controls were fine-tuned a bit but the game still felt clunky to move around at times.

THE STORY

You play as two characters throughout the course of the game: Master Chief and The Arbiter. Master Chief is a Spartan warrior(not from Greece) whos was genetically altered and raised to kill from birth. The cybernetic piloting system known as Cortana has chosen him to fight in the war. He is one of the last of his kind and equipped with Mjolnir Mark IV armor. The Arbiter on the other hand is an Old Covenant elite captain who was exiled in the early stages of Halo 2 for grand treason against the prophets. Now his soul purpose is to help the Master Chief destroy the prophet's empire.

CAMPAIGN

You start in the midst of East Africa, as you have just crash landed from your pod and everyone think your dead. You'll quickly find out the Chief doesn't go down that easily. You proceed to make your way to New Mombasa, a heavily guarded, and last standing, military base. After doing your best to repel the attack you are forced from the base where you make your way to the Tsavo Highway via Warthog. From there you must go through a series of repetetive missions to make your way to the prophet's lair. There you go on several MORE repetetive missions which lead you to the final battle which i found RIDICULOUSLY easy even on Mythic dificulty. After that you find that Master chief gets fried, so sad, or is it? Beat the game on Mythic difficulty to find out.....

MULTIPLAYER

The Big Kahuna of Halo games: the multiplayer. Equipped with mostly all new maps and several new weapons and aspects the multiplayer is an overall improvment from previous. The maps are extremely fun to play unlike several of Halo 2's and the arangement of weapons and vehicles makes more sense. However no game is without it's bugs. At several points while playing i experienced crippling glitches which either made the game unplayable or crashed my 360. Such as overload lag, endless fall, or just plain old death freeze. But the real catch is The Forge. The Forge is the first ever 360 multiplayer map editor and is a fantastic addition. It allows up to 8 players to go into a map to Move, Add, Or Delete obects in the map.

THE VERDICT

Sure, Halo 3 may have it's crippling problems at times but it is still a great overall game. The great multiplayer balances out with the mediocre campaign to make it worth buying only for the multiplayer alone. Therefore i give this game a:

8/10
