You mentioned race- specifically, you mentioned educational conventions afforded to teach people about the accomplishments of blacks, who have historically gotten the short end of the social stick. Because slavery is one of the biggest reasons that ethnocentricity around Caucasians got started, it's going to be mentioned. Blacks were dehumanized so much by early Americans so that they could pass off slavery as moral, that it got ingrained into social feeling and kind of got stuck.

Let me see if I can dig you up a thread covering the same topic in the ED. While the ED and the GD have different dynamics and purposes, they're sister forums. Some of us may not appreciate the GD as much as the ED, but it has its place, and plenty of people do enjoy it. I'd appreciate it if we all tried to keep the hostility down. I understand the frusteration of thread responses that aren't what we want, but the same can happen in any forum, for any topic.
