As you may know, I'm currently working on a Pokémon RP. So far, I've got the following worked out.
Each person gets 1 15-man box (I really don't wanna have to deal with everyone having 400+ pokémon to choose from...it's too much)
Battle will be done in Manga/TV style, taking into consideration normal weaknesses and resistances. (no matter HOW strong your Alakazam is he CANNOT OHKO a Murkrow with Psychic!)
Battles are done in normal combat; no HP meters, no actual stats (that means the weak-yet-cool Farfetch'd can take on, say, a Dragonite, if you're clever enough)
also; no catching Legendaries or Mythicals...you CAN ask them for help if you've gained thier respect, though...
Everyone will be able to choose from the following starters:
Bulbasaur/Charmander/Squirtle
Pikachu/Eevee
Chikorita/Cyndaquil/Totodile
Treecko/Torchic/Mudkip
Turtwig/Chimchar/Piplup
if you want a different one, talk to me about it beforehand.
I, personally, won't have my own character (at least, not in the outset). I WILL, however, be controlling all NPCs, as well as the occasional random encounter (don't expect to see hundreds of Rattata in the Kanto...yay!)

MANGA DIFFERENCES:
Each starting town has a trio of colour-named protagonists that are well known and well revered about the country.
RED - Champion of the Kanto
BLUE - RED's rival
GREEN - a sly, conniving young girl
I may choose to include these, ro I may not...I haven't quite decided yet.

a Pokédex is a tool for researching Pokémon...you do not actually need to catch anything you don't wanna catch.
the Elite Four are evil!

Lorelei;
A little off-kilter. Uses her Jynx's abilities to manifest working voodoo dolls to ensnare those who oppose her.
Has an odd lipstick that can paralyze someone with a kiss (even a blown kiss).
Bruno;
An unwilling member of the Elite Four; Under the mind-controlling powers of Agatha's ghost Pokémon.
Agatha;
An old flame of Prof. Oak; keeps Bruno in check with her Ghost Pokémon.
Lance;
Master of Dragon pokémon, and leader of the Elite Four.
Has the power to control or brainwash any dragon or dragon-esque (ie; Charizard, Gyarados) Pokémon. He is also able to communicate with Pokémon telepathically and heal thier wounds.
Despises humans because of the way they treat Pokémon. Only likes a handful who are extra-nice to thier Pokémon.
