Cledwyn smiled happily as a small group of fawns ran back to their mother’s after an hour-long storytelling session with him. He was happy that the young Herla were interested in hearing his stories. That day he had just got done telling them about the time that Starbuck had outwitted a wolf. Chuckling, he stared up at the sun for a few moments, noticing that it was nearly directly over his head. “Almost mid-day,” he said to himself, not caring who was around. “I’d give it a few more hours before the next group comes for my stories.” It seems that all of the calves had their own scheduled times of when they wanted their stories told to them and it was the same everyday.

Shaking his head, Cledwyn started to walk towards a clearer patch of grass for him to graze on.

Maysa had grown into a fine young doe. She was a sweet female, soft-spoken and kind. Even now she stayed close to her mothers side, watching over the absent-minded hind. But she did also enjoy a leisurely stroll each day, winding her way through all the hind and fawns.

It was one such moment when she spotted a familiar white form in the distance. Cledwyn, her mind supplied the name. The brown female came up beside the old storyteller, her pink nose wrinkling in a smile.

“Cledwyn! It’s nice to see you again.” She spoke softly and shyly, smiling up at him happily.

[didn't Maysa grow into a hind? -curious-
sorry about the lateness. RL kicked my butt hard]

Cledwyn stopped in his tracks and gazed behind him to see a brown form heading towards him. Curious, he turned around slowly until he heard a familiar voice. "Maysa?" he asked curiously, canting his head to one side.

"My have you grown. It's been a long time since I have seen you. How have you been?" he asked her, pricking his ears forward to hear the doe properly.

“I’ve missed talking to you.” Maysa said. It was true; Cledwyn had been her first real friend. That he was an older stag had never bothered her in the slightest. Her shy nature meant that as a fawn she had been more comfortable around adults than boisterous deer her own age.

She threw her elegant neck back, showing off her new height with a giggle. “I’m all grown up now.” Maysa had grown into a fine young hind. “So what have you been doing with yourself Cledwyn?” She asked, brushing her head against his neck affectionately.

Ooc: Ah, true, true. XD Thankyou! <33 I didn’t even realize. I hadn’t been paying attention to the thread, but I did a quick search and found her.

Maysa!

[she looks so beautiful! -glomps the grown Maysa-]

Cledwyn chuckled slightly at her statement. It was true that he hadn't seen her in quite some time. Should he have seen more of her? Cledwyn didn't want to know the answer to that question. Herne worked in mysterious ways and it seemed that Herne wanted to keep Cledwyn too busy to see Maysa.

Seeing her movements, he raised his head up a little higher and heard her next statement. "And you are a beautiful hind. Maybe this year you might get yourself lucky and find a stag to be in his harem."

Feeling her head brush up against his neck, he didn't move at all. This wasn't any ordinary brush. It was an affectionate one-something he hadn't felt in a long time. Not since his old mate had died that one tragic winter. He smiled warmly at her, but didn't give back any affectionate rubbing. Maybe it was on accident that she did that or maybe she might do that again. Only Herne knew of this. "The usual. It seems that the young fawns this past spring were more keen to wanting my stories than they had in the past. I am happy that they want my stories, though. It makes me feel that I am useful in the herd."

Maysa blushed lightly at the compliment but then shook her head for the rest. “I don’t know… I don’t know much about stags, but I don’t think anyone is interested in me.” She wasn’t even sure if she wanted to be in a harem. The idea made her a little nervous. But since this was to be her first Anlach as an adult that was to be expected.

The hind did notice Cledwyn’s reaction to her touch, at least partly. She was an affectionate creature by nature, and she understood that some other deer weren’t, but that was okay. “That’s wonderful. I really miss listening to your stories.” Her ears flickered forward as she giggled. “Sometimes I even ask mama to tell them to me. You’re never too old to hear about Herne and Starbuck.”

Ooc: Hehe. <3 I was really happy when I saw her. ^.^

Cledwyn chuckled softly at her comment. "That's what my first mate said to me when I approached her at Anlach. She was surprised that a herla like me would fight for someone like her. In the end she became my favorite hind. I miss her very much. Who knows-there might be a stag waiting for you in the herd," he suggested to her.

He relaxed his body slightly as he heard that she missed listening to his stores. "And I have missed telling them to you, my dear," he said to her, nudging the middle of her forehead with his muzzle. "That is true. My mentor never grew tired of telling me the many stories of Herne and Starbuck."

[sorry about the delay. Been busy. ^^;]

Maysa shook her head again, this time with decisive and final air. “I’m not going to mate this year.” It just didn’t feel right. Her mother wouldn’t be mating this year either, so Maysa would be content to stand by her mother and watch all the fawns being born. Maybe next Anlach she would pursue the idea of joining a harem more thoroughly, but right now she content to leave things the way they were.

As Cledwyn talked about his old mate, she smiled a little sadly. “She sounds lovely. I’m sorry that you… lost her.” The way he spoke she assumed that hind was dead now. She gave his neck a, hopefully comforting, touch with her nose. “I’m going to come see you more often. Nobody can tell a story like you can. You make them come alive.”

Cledwyn nodded his head slightly at her decision. She had just turned into an adult this year. He knew that most young hinds didn't take mates right away on their first year of Anlach. He was lucky to get one his first year. Though she never produced any offspring for him, but he didn't let that get in the way of their love.

Hearing her comment, he flicked an ear slightly. "It was a tragic loss for me. My other hinds in my harem took other stags as their mates. They didn't want me to loose them, too, but at the same time I was relieved that they found someone better than me. I felt like I was doing the wrong thing in claiming them in my own harem." He crossed his eyes when he felt her nose touch him. "That would please this old heart of mine. It has been ages since I have seen you and I was beginning to wonder if you still existed. I didn't know if you had gone up to join Herne in the sky." He chuckled at her last comment. "Ah, but I have been around for many moons and I have known ways to make the stories come to life. The secret of it is, well, a secret." He winked at her after stating this comment.

[sorry about the delay again. It seems RL always gets in the way. ^^;]

Maysa eyes were wide and sad as she listened to Cledwyn speak. Of course her short life had been filled with happiness, so she could not imagine what it would be like to loose somebody that she loved. Seeing a friend hurt like this was bad too, but she wasn’t quite sure what to say that would make it better. “It wasn’t the wrong thing.” She assured. “I sure they were happy to be in your harem, even if you thought they deserved better.”

Then the conversation turned to lighter things. Maysa chuckled. “Herne is going to have to wait a little longer before I come join him. As much as I’m sure he wants me there.” She joked, and then felt a little bad for using the gods name in such a flippant manner. “A secret! Ooo!”

Ooc: Sorry for the wait. My brain decided not to work. XP
