I remember once trying to describe goth rock to my friend and he responded by showing "devil horns" and mock-growling. gonk
And I lol'd at the Gothic Veil description, too.

I agree with Edi. And if someone uses the term in a dumb way, then I just roll my eyes at them. It's not worth getting into a huge argument about what it really is when most people aren't willing to accept that you're correct.

********* Vial I do too. Or the barbarians. The barbarians were Goths. I distinguish by using a big G for the Germanic tribe, and a small g for the subculture. Goths =/= goths. Gothic I generally reserve for architectural design and the genre of romantic nineteenth century literature. "Gothic" has become pretty openly defined, used to describe anything from a vampire story to Cher's line of home decor. "Goth" is more esoterically oriented in my opinion, but most people seem to find them interchangeable.

My teacher made some comment about "the gothics". I just laughed.

I laughed, and rolled my eyes.
A lot of confusion over what goth is bugs me. That's usually why I don't talk about it with others in real life because the confusion often leads to depression or being incredibly "grim" (inside joke).
Think Long And Haarrrdd: That makes me think of something my law teacher said. "What would happen if it became illegal to dress like a goth?" I nearly cried.

Edi Nippoli ninja I only use the term gothic when referring to the architecture. Same here. When a family member calls me "Gothic" I truly want to sock them in the head. Or even when theres a discussion about sinister stuff like Demons and Vampires. Someone will ask me about it like Im some kinda link to the devil or something. Ps. In my Opinion the Gothic Veil is one ugly a** item.

I remember my grandparents asked me if I was "gothic" while I was lacing up my docs one time, I just avoided a long and awkward conversation by saying no. Its too hard to explain just because its best to know a history of music goth came from in order to understand fully. >.<

http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/GothQuote: Death rockers are known to hate anything 'popular' or known, going as far as hating known goth idols such as Peter Murphy, that band 'All Gone Dead', Nik Fiend, Rozz Williams, and the Misfits. Even though every ******** death rocker looks exactly the same just like how every goth looks like one another. ******** borg... Nevertheless, they can stomp the s**t out of an emo furfag anyday I love ED. rofl

I remember just wearing alot of black growing up. And mixed with a mix of vampire novels, my family decided to label me as gothic.
This always kind of bothered me. Not to the fact that I did not -want- to -be- gothic, but that my family had incorrect ideas on what it was to be gothic.
And I guess, frankly so did I to a point.
Then as the years went by, I unfortunately moved to some more socially accepted dress and never ventured fully into the gothic fashion world. Because of money. *cough*
But I will always have the dark spirit. A love for all that is macabre and a appreciation for the darker paradises of life.
Yes. I must agree. The Gothic veil is an item that I have not really taken to... At all.. It was a sad answer to the Heavenly veil or whatever the ******** the white one was. [which was a way better item all around]
Gothic veil? With a description like that? It seems more properly set up to be the Emo Veil. Just think. It could have had cute little arm wraps to hide away the manifestation of their living pain through self mutilation..
Gothic subculture has gore and blood too. But that seems more prone to making something grotesque and macabre into something absolutely gorgeous.
But very honestly. I don't really know a lot about the subculture.. Other that I am drawn to it, more then any other.
