Time has stopped. No one knows how long, exactly, it has been the year of 2998. But everyone knows it's been very, very long. Clocks have stopped working, the night is forever frozen on the full moon, the land forever stuck in the cold of winter. No one can remember anything from back when time stopped.
The weather does change, sometimes clear, sometimes rainy, sometimes snowing, but always cold, always...There is no daylight, and the Earth does not spin. The world is barren and silent, only the light of the moon and stars to guide the few quiet beings that still live. Plants have evolved to thrive under moonlight in the silent cold.
Water that is not frozen as ice is rare to come by in this barren world. Very few people know how to create fire. Ever since the time stop food does not spoil. Seeds of plants, or newborn animals are sometimes used as clocks; essentially telling how much time has passed.
No one ages or dies, save for illness and murder. It has been so ever since the time stopped. Only those born after the time-stop have aged and died. When a mother has a child, she watches it grow, grow as she could not, grow older than her. She watches her own child die of old age while she is still frozen young. Very few beings put up with birth. There's no reason for it, not now when the population was at a constant...
Some say the ones who can die are lucky. Better off with that than being stuck, frozen in time, for eternity...
