Some places in the world have red soil.Like Sierra Leone! They say that the red earth is caused from all the blood spilled from fighting over the land.
...I still like the the idea of "hiding in fire" though.
Something tells me that wouldn't be good, even IF it didn't burn you.
But regardless, a lot of red camouflage patterns could be used in brick heavy environments, like industrial complexes. Others, like the red/white/black camo patterns have little use other than to distinguish from different team members in non-lethal combat.
