Well, as my brother says,' I am mad about Linux'.
And I can't decide which one to use. I have got 4 but got the opportunity to use only two yet.
First one was Ubuntu.
I like it very much with its GNOME desktop and well all its things.
It even supported my modem at first. But then something happened to my modem and it wasn't able to connect anymore!
It did dial but hung up.
I tried configuring through the graphical setup in Networking, with pppconfig and wvdial but all gave the same error.
Even on the dual-booted Windows XP (bro still uses it), he had to reinstall the modem drivers.
Now I can't figure out how to do the same for my Ubuntu.
I tried formatting and reinstall (and losing all downloads gonk ), but to no avail.
So, I tried more versions.
I downloaded Damn Small Linux (a version of Knoppix) and couldn't figure out how to boot it from my USB.
And I downloaded another one whose name escapes my mind currently.
Last, I recently downloaded and install Fedora 7 but it doesn't even detect my modem.
Oh...my modem is a U.S. Robotics 56K Message modem
A dial-up modem that connects with a serial port (no USB), and Ubuntu said it supports that.
Its so called good community support didn't even reply to my post in its forums. scream
So, I need advice on which distro to use that supports modems.
Or is it that I should change my modem?
