Alright so I'm visiting my mom for a couple weeks since I'm on break from school and my boyfriend is out of state for a longer time than I would like. So my mom takes me to this chiropractor who deals with holistic health and healing as well that she really likes and he has me take this health assesment that says that I apparently have a whole mess of things wrong with me. *Note: I've been trying REALLY hard to loose weight for over two years and have only gained weight in the process* So I ask this doctor if any of these things could effect my ability to loose weight, and what does he say? ALL of them. So he starts me on this dietary supplement to help with the worst of these disorders, and tomorrow he's gonna start me on something else, but I'm also leaving to go home tomorrow! What then? I can't get here when I have school, especially considering I don't have a car! So, now I feel fatter than ever, I know that I'm physically unable to loose weight no matter how healthy my diet and lifestyle are, and the chances of me finding a doctor that will provide the same treatment in my area that I can actually get to on my own are slim to none.

On top of all of that, once I go home, I'm completely alone for nearly a month until my boyfriend gets back because I have no friends. I feel so upset and hopeless right now, I just wanted to get that out to someone...

I'm done now....

If you live in a big town or city, I'm sure you could find support and info through a support group?

I know in NYC there are literally hundreds of groups that can cater to anyones needs, and are surrounded by people with the exact same problem as you.

In a small town, I would have NO clue how'd you find help.
Anything on the internet seem to be appealing?

EDIT: One thing about chiropractors. They believe every and ANY condition you have is connected to the spine and will try to sell that to you to keep you coming back for more.

I'm lucky in that the guy I go to when my back hurts just throws me on a table, snaps my back like bubble wrap and sends me on my way feeling 100% better. Not like some who want you to come in every week for magnetism therapy, electrodes, danging weights on your forehead.

Mumbo jumbo.

I've gone to chiropractors on and off throughout my whole life, especially in the past four years since I moved from chicago. I do believe that a whole damn LOT of general and non-general alements are connected to misalignments in the spine, but not everything. I have a lot of problems with my back and my last chiropractor at first I had to go to a few times a week but by the end of a few months it was down to once a month and then later, down to once every few months or just whenever I was in pain. This new guy isn't trying to solve everything with adjustments, he put me on this herbal suppliment that I have to take before meals and I'm beginning to feel a little bit better, but its still hard to sleep.

As for support groups, I don't think that they'd really do much for reactive hypoglycemia, adrenal exhaustion, or thyroid dysfunction, which, might I mention are only three of the list that is seven long.

I live in pittsburgh, by the way, which isn't really that big, and isnt' realy that small...so who knows.

Apparently, when you are around 20 or older, your metabloism slows down and it becomes very hard for you to loose any weight. I am now noticing that I am slowly gaining weight and it is very hard to loose it and keep it off. I haven't had a weight problem my whole life and now it is getting to be a problem. Not a health issue as of yet, but a feeling good in your own skin problem. I also have a lazy job of sitting on my a** all day taking calls from cranky people. So it is a bit of a stressful job especially when you can't solve their problem. I don't know any advice to give you as your lifestyle is probably very different from mine. I have reciently stopped eating right before I go to bed and I have stopped eating pizza all the time (obviously). I go to bed at like 2 or 3 in the morning so it is hard. The pizza place is the ONLY fast food place close to my work so many employess that get hired there gain weight that way.

When it comes to eating healthy a couple years ago I stopped drinking soda and eating fast food all together, not too long after that I cut down on my junk food intake, once I got my own place I started cooking for myself and pretty much eliminated my junk food intake, and more recently I've even stopped snacking. I don't drink sugary drinks like koolaid or bottled juice-type drinks (fruitopia, lemonade, even bottled tea or anything that isn't 100% juice), I drink lots of water. I'm not a heavy drinker, I have wine with dinner sometimes and occasionally go out to a bar and have a few (MAYBE once a month). The only thing I could do better at I think is exercising more even though I have to walk everywhere I go 'cause I don't have a car and I try and go climbing every weekend(though I've been slacking a bit recently). I even read labels!!!!!

All that and the most thats happened is kind of a "yo-yo" loss/gain period about a year back. It seriously just makes me want to give up but if I do that I'll just start gaining massive amounts of weight....all I want is to feel good about myself and I'm trying so hard and it never pays off.... sad

It's not actually 20 years old, it's more around 28-30 years old. 3nodding Your metabolism won't exactly be what it was when you were 12 when you're 20, but it won't actually start to slooow down until you're around 30 years old.

I'm really sorry you've been having so much trouble. :[ As for your diet, is it fairly consistent? Most people tend to try a whole bunch of different diets (mostly trend diets) when they get frustrated about their weight, but the truth is you really need to pick one diet you can stick with for a long time. Sure you need to vary what you eat, but your base diet needs to be consistent.

Also, for exercise, you really, really need to vary what you do. Walking is good and all, but if it's all you do your body will just get used to it. Try getting a few exercise videos (I'm a nut when it comes to videos, so I can suggest a few if you'd like), maybe eventually have enough where you can do a different one each day of the week. It'll help keep your body guessing and your metabolism will work faster.

Also, also (wik), have you tried the grazing // three hour diet?

Now that school is back in I really don't have much time to do anything else besides walking places, especially since whenever I need to go anywhere besides work or school it takes a half an hour to get there on foot. As for my diet I try to keep as consistent as I can. I eat three meals a day and try too keep them at the same time every day, its easy to loose track of time while I'm at school though :/ If I need it I have a healthy snack, like some fruit, or a granola bar and I don't drink anything but water when I'm not at home although I have to get some coffee when I'm at school sometimes :/

I've never heard of the grazing/three hour diet, what is it?

:[

The grazing/three our diet gooooooes:

You eat one hour after you get up, you eat smaaaall meals every three hours after that, and then you don't eat three hours before you go to bed (a.k.a. just don't eat after 7pm and do not snack after dinner).

3nodding

It works really well. It'll keep your metabolism going pretty quickly. And make sure your breakfast is the biggest meal and dinner the smallest. The morning is when your body is most ready to burn calories and around dinner time is when your body's starting to slow down after a long day. 3nodding That's also why it's mostly best to exercise in the evening because if you eat / are planning to eat a larger dinner, the exercising will help you burn the calories off. 3nodding
