SINCE THE GUILD IS SLACKING IN GETTING THIS UNDERWAY, I'M OPENING A CONTEST OF MY OWN, THE PRIZE IS 10K GOLD, PROVIDED BY MYSELF. I'M USING JHOSEPHIINE'S IDEA, AND LEAVING THE CONTEST OPEN, THEN ALLOWING THE GUILD TO VOTE ON THE WINNER. I ASK THAT YOU DON'T VOTE FOR YOURSELF, BECAUSE THAT WOULD JUST MAKE MATTERS DIFFICULT IF EVERYONE HAD ONE VOTE. I'LL LEAVE THIS OPEN LONGER IF NOBODY POSTS, AND I WON'T JOIN UNTIL SOMEONE ELSE JOINS. I HOPE THIS WORKS, AND THAT YOU ALL AT LEAST ATTEMPT TO JOIN IN. THIS FIRST ROUND CLOSES ON OCTOBER 9 AT 17:00 (5:00 PM) EST (EASTERN STANDARD TIME) GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

((Until I get the reserved page up and running, I'll leave this thread here for now.))

For the sake of it all, I'll enter.

Comrades in Arms

As the enemy before my blade drops into eternal sleep,
I look to my left and see my comrade raise his axe,
And to the right I see my little sister raise her spear.
To them I raise my sword and forth we surge into the future.

Heaven shall burn,
And Hell will be cleansed!
None may raise a harming hand to us,
For those divine have none to fear.

As we charge forth, strong enemies face us.
Disease, war, famine, death!
We laugh in their faces and cut them down
Like so much wheat before the scythes of the farm!

Heaven shall burn,
And Hell will be cleansed!
None may raise a harming hand to us,
For those divine have none to fear.

With blood covered hands,
We clasp forearms in friendship.
With weapons in hand and honor in our hearts,
We will die with truth's brand on our souls.

Heaven shall burn,
And Hell will be cleansed!
None may raise a harming hand to us,
For those divine have none to fear.

None may raise a harming hand to us,
For those divine have none to fear!

**This is dedicated to my comrade Josh and my "little sis/friend" Stacy. May they live good lives with honor and courage.**

Well, I said I'd enter if I had one other. Thanks Christophe! mrgreen

Struggle of the Fallen

Passion flares, burns out the light,
Soldiers march into the night.
The fires of war light the sky,
their time is now, tonight they die.
Reds on reds, blacks on blacks,
their bodies thrown on roads and tracks.
Blood seeps beneath the surface,
never knowing what it's purpose
could have been if retained in veins.
What would have been, without the rains
of blood, and sweat, and heart, and soul.
What when war's thunder never rolled?
The men who died for this land,
united they die, united they stand.
They fight together, together at last,
but now the light is fading fast.
Appolo's chariot finds its place,
now our men quicken the pace.
Swords and sheilds, pikes and spears,
this is a war for the years.
Bones crumble back to dust,
we must remember, we must, we must.
The blood that stained this feild of white,
is a testament to their might.
Mighty Sparta faught not this hard,
breaking bone, shard by shard.
Until at last, the body breaks.
The soldiers fall and the earth shakes.
The last man fallen, it is done.
One survivor shouts, "We won! We won!"

what the heck? it's not as if i have much to lose by entering. This poem is dedicated to Dave, the hapless farmer I can discuss Tolstoy and Keats with. A true diamond in the rough.

*Outcast*
Living on the streets,
a lighter for a friend
cold, rejected,
bringing on the end.
A cold, dead dream,
a haunting past
nothing should make this girl
want the end so fast.
Straight A's in school,
crushed by the blows
of a high mother,
in her death throes.
She could have made it,
she did try
but the philanthropists
ignored her cry.
Her parents doomed her,
rejecting the "straight and narrow"
and the carpet to hell's gate
lit a flaming arrow.
There are so many ways
to do kind and right
so about the "path"
too narrow for her plight?
The people that judge her
have never felt the need
to practice what they preach
in moral and deed.
What must we show our children?
What will their future be?
Are they able to change the things
that escaped our morality?
Those of us who take pride
in what we call being civilized
are deluding ourselves
to our own state of being bastardized.
Is there yet hope
for the girl in tattered wisdom?
when she is a proud example
of enforced, decrepit heirdom.

think well on me.

YAY! Poetry contest under way!! Someone finally took some initiative! I'm so sorry I never got it going, but you guys don't need me!

Good luck to the entrants! I doubt I'll enter anything this time, but maybe I can be a part of the judging (if I'm up and running with a computer soon enough).

Contests are fun. I have one to enter, but I'm still not sure if I want to use it because it's an older one. I might try to write something new for this...I just haven't decided yet.

Here's mine, it's something I wrote maybe a few months ago:

Into the Night that Plays my Game

I only see in black and white,
Forget the little shades of gray,
Speckled black,
The white wall fades
Into the night that plays my game.

My first love stole my heart away,
In the dark of night we played,
The white dress speckled black today,
But the security starts to fade
Into the night that plays my game.

My first love kills me everyday,
There were no others to take his place,
In a world with no shades of gray,
In a world that slowly fades
Into the night that plays my game.

The white rose slowly withered away,
There is no other to share the blame,
There is no reason to bring the shades,
The different tones of gray will fade
Into the night that plays my game.

I only see in black and white
I measure it carefully on the stand

Forget the little shades of gray
White like sugar so close to my hand

Speckled black
The water lays

The white wall fades
Only seconds left before I stray –

Into the night that plays my game.
Into the night that plays my game.

just out of curiosity, when does the voting end? It's such a shame more people didn't participate... cry
PostPosted: Sat Nov 10, 2007 6:27 pm

Thanks for reminding me about this here.

Well, it was only supposed to be open for voting for a week...but with so little participation as far as votes went, we extended it...and still not much has happened.

So, now, I'm closing the voting myself.

The results are:

Struggle of the Fallen: Dante Deus [3 votes]
Outcast: maidentears [3 votes]
Comrades in Arms: Kharne Bloodhowler [2 votes]
Into the Night that Plays my Game: SavagePhase [1 vote]

Since there is a tie, both Dante and maidentears will be receiving half of the prize money. Well, technically, Dante receives nothing since it's HIS prize money. But still.

Thanks to all that participated in the contest! We hope to hold another [eventually]. Hopefully next time there will be more participation, either in submitted poems, voting, or both.

HAVE A GOOD DAY!

here is one of my poems i hope u all like it its one of my first...
...
...
"A Poem By Night"
...
Thine life is like a red red rose always blooming in the nights of dark no matter the condition.

Thine vines lead a way to the everlasting light no matter how hard the road may make.

You grow and blossom in thine own way, shining in thine beauty.

Thine body flows in the wind in every glorious way belying the beauty you have become.

You show this beauty that makes others turn away.

For in thine way it's too beautiful to believe.

You bely your beauty, you bely your mind but in every way possible you can make the dearest occasions turn into a greater notion of love.

You prove in thine eyes a glorious angel come down from above.

You deny any notion of anger to pass by you.

You show great kindness to all and gain love from all.

You don't deny the love you shine by but let it glow in thine glorious walk.

You can make the lives of others grow and fly.

You can make the glorious style of love show in all and in that notion believe in us all...
