What's no wave? gonk

A very small minimalist art punk scene that came out of New york in the early 80's, inspired largely by Glen Branca. Sonic Youth was the biggest name to come out of it, but bands like DNA and Teenage Jesus & The Jerks were part of it as well.

Alright. So then why is it called no wave and does it have anything to do with new wave?

It was supposed to be a satirical play on new wave. Sort of the "anti" new wave.
check out the No New York compilation for a decent overview. I'm pretty sure I've got it. If I do, I can put it up if you want.

The Screamers are a close second as far as my favorite No Wave band goes (Sonic Youth being the first), even though live recordings (since they never released a cd) are a b***h to get a hold of, not to mention the sound quality is pretty bad, but once you get past that they were an awesome band. 3nodding

Would the Yeah Yeah Yeahs also fall under the category of No Wave? They seem to be influenced by old NY No Wave bands.
