Chimera looked over his shoulder with unusually keen eyesight to make sure Cricket would not follow, but the bare dirt showed no movement. He wagged his red tail and smiled before leaping off through the wasteland.

It wasn't safe for pups to travel alone, and he knew that, but no hyena in their right mind would attack a mutant. Hyena pups would scatter at the sight of him, and other animals' fur puffed out when he passed by. It was all fine, he thought while walking, that no one would dare approach him, but friends seemed like such wonderful things, especially when Chimera watched groups of youngsters playing and mingling. If only he had someone to care about, and they cared for him, maybe he wouldn't feel so left out...
