In the years since 9/11 and the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, I've seen an interesting trend in prominent Western countries.
In Europe, the UK, Spain, Germany, Italy, and Denmark have all had bombings, attempted bombings, or conspiracies to commit bombings perpatrated by Muslim extremists and their allies. Yet, since the Iraq invasion there have been no serious threats plots within the United States homeland.
I'm not sure why, but it seems to me that the war in Iraq is having an effect: terrorists who want to target America all seem to be in Iraq, fighting our soldiers and not attacking citizens at home. Or is it just a coincidence?

Not for lack of trying. There have been a few foiled plots like the fellow who wanted to blow up LAX. But you're right we have not had an attack on American soil since 9/11. Maybe most are in Iraq. I hope they are, because I live in New York and don't like being a target.

True, there have been some incidents, but lets face it...the shoebomber was probably the only one that might have suceeded. The LAX guy...did he actually have the explosives and the means, or was he just a plotter? I never did get much info on him.

Nevermind the LAX guy was planning on doing it during the 2000 celebrations.

Ilikepie4 They make me take off my sandals because of him. True...idiot could have used plastic explosives...then they never would have caught him and we could still wear our shoes at the airport.

Weren't most of the 9/11 attackers US citizens or here on work and study visas?
I think this might not be a very strong correlation. Just me, though. I'm certainly no security expert, but I think it's just a matter of the world being aware of this threat's size and scope, where it wasn't before, and being thusly prepared.

15 of 19 were Saudis...I believe they were here on tourist visas, though I could be wrong. But if that is true, why have there been attacks and/or plot in a number of other countries, but not in the US?

Cromdog 15 of 19 were Saudis...I believe they were here on tourist visas, though I could be wrong. But if that is true, why have there been attacks and/or plot in a number of other countries, but not in the US? Because governments are slow, reactionary beasts? :3 Did some research. FBI.gov lists about half of them as Saudi nationals. All but a few were temporary or permanent US residents. None appear to have become citizens. Browsing the various most wanted lists is creepy. That whole website is creepy.
