I'm curious who has played this series, including the off-shoot to the 4th installment.
I'm currently on the 3rd game and I'm enjoying the stories they have put into place and was wondering if there's any other fans in here.

I've played Suikoden 1, 2, 3, and 5. I am in general a fan of the series, although that has lessened with time. 1 was good, 2 was incomparably excellent, and 3 was great, but 5 was...rather bland, all told. All the trappings of the classic Suikoden, but none of the heart. That, combined with what I hear of Suikoden 4's lackluster presentation (still haven't gotten around to actually playing it myself yet), has cooled my excitement for the series. Still, it's unique and a cut above most other RPGs, to be sure, its second installment is easily one of the greatest games ever created, and it did produce such great characters as Geddoe, Roy, Viki (who can not love Viki?), Viktor, Shu, and my favorite female RPG character to date, the magnificently awesome Chris Lightfellow,

I only played 1 and 5...I have really good memories of the original and 5 was pretty good. I think I like 5 becuase I really connected with the main character (don't remember his real name). I also loved the end of part one when it told you what happened to each Character you aquired (5 had way to many characters and the chick in the black robe was pretty much a sure win against any boss). Other than that, I didn't really follow it from begining to end. (not saying that it has ended)

Ess, I agree fully. As I said, I'm on the 3rd game, in chapter 5 right now. I must say, I'm not a big fan of Chris, but at this point, she's finally more human than she was originally. I heard about 4 from my friends and worry a bit myself, but...it has Ted in it and he was cool in the first.
Indeed. It is unique in how they did it. I enjoy how the stories are set in the same universe, just different periods of time to show other events. Yeah, I have a list of fave characters myself: Geddoe, Ace, Viki, Jeane, Viktor, Flik, Riou, Jowy, Shu, Luc, Ted, Tir, Futch, Humphrey, Luca Blight, Landis, Georg Prime, Clive, Nash, Necrolord, Edge (Only because he had the Star Dragon/Zodiac Sword), Maximillian, Mukumuku and his squirrel band, Kogoro since he did his little dance before i recruited him in 3, and my final and top fave character - Yuber.
Characters I don't like: Too many to count, but the lowest on the list is Lulu. I cheered both times I saw what happened to him.
To be honest, I'm getting bored with the series myself and I'm not sure if I should start up 4 or try out Persona 3 after I finish this one.

Given that Persona is part of the Shin Megami Tensei series, and given that SMT is very reliably kickass with its games, I'd do that one. I mean, S4's on the backburner for me right now, because I have games that I know are going to be significantly better to play first.

Sounds like a good plan, Ess.
