Welcome students to your first flying lessons. I will be your teacher, Professor Rose.

Please follow the following rules so that this class will go smoothly.

1) Please raise your hand to speak.
2) Respect each other and and be sure not to hurt anyone with your brooms please.
3) You are given a week from the time the lesson is posted to complete your homework, I will not accept late work, unless you had posted in the Hogsmeade thread letting us know you would be gone.
4) Do not fly when I am not near. Like if I have to take a student to the hospital wing. If i find you off the ground... well lets just say it won't be pretty.
5) Please send me Homework via owl.

Note: If you do not follow these rules, it will lead to loss of house points and/or detention.

Current Lesson: Quidditch.

I thought that after studying your different subjects that you would like something fun to study this week! How about Quidditch?

Quidditch is the flying sport that we here at Hogwarts love to watch or play!

In Quidditch you put all you know from flying into it... but you have to fly faster, higher, and greater. With practice you will get it!

Quidditch has 7 players:

1 Keeper
1 Seeker
3 Chasers
2 Beaters

There are also 4 balls:
2 Bludgers
1 Quaffle
The golden Snitch

There are 3 hoops you can shoot the Quaffle in. Those hoops are guarded by the Keeper. The chasers try to get the Quaffle into one of the three hoops. Each time you get a Quaffle into the hoops, you earn 10 points.

The Beaters try to keep the Bludgers away from the other memebers of their team. Those Bludgers can be pretty nasty if you don't dodge them and pay attention to where they are.

The Golden Snitch is all that the Seeker of the Team must worry about. For the Golden Snitch can help the team win. The game of Quidditch goes on until the Golden Snitch is caught. These games of Quidditch could take from a couple hours to a couple months to play.

The Snitch is also the hardest to find. Being the smallest and the Fastest. The Bludger is the most scariest... For it could knock you off your broom.

There are six rules:
Players must not stray over the boundary lines of the pitch, although they may fly as high as desired. The Quaffle must be surrendered to the opposition if any player leaves the boundary.

Time out' may be called at any time by the Captain of a team. Time out may be extended to two hours if a game has already lasted for more than twelve hours. Failure to return to the pitch after this time will lead to the team being disqualified.

Penalties can be awarded to teams by the referee. A single Chaser may take the penalty by flying from the central circle towards the scoring area. The opposing team's Keeper may attempt to stop the shot being scored, but no other players may interfere.

Contact is allowed, but a player may not take hold of another player's broomstick or any part of their anatomy.

No substitution of players is allowed throughout the game, even if a player is too injured to continue to play (the only exception to this rule is if the game is long.)

Players may take their wands onto the pitch, but they must not be used on or against any players, any players' broomsticks, the referee, any of the four balls, or the spectators.

The fouls are:
Blagging: No player may seize any part of an opponent's broom to slow or hinder the player.

Blatching: No player may fly with the intent to collide.

Blurting: No player may lock broom handles with the intent to steer an opponent off course.

Bumphing: Beaters must not hit Bludgers towards spectators.

Cobbing: Players must not use their elbows against opponents.

Flacking: Keepers must not defend the posts from behind by punching Quaffles out of the hoops - goals must be defended from the front.

Haversacking: Chasers must not still be in contact with the Quaffle as it passes through a hoop (the Quaffle must be thrown through).

Quaffle-pocking: Chasers must not tamper with the Quaffle in any way.

Snitchnip: No player other than the Seeker may touch or catch the Golden Snitch.

Stooging: No more than one Chaser is allowed in the scoring area at any one time.

I hope to see you at this years Quidditch World Cup~

Next Lesson:

Past Lessons:

Getting your broom off the ground and Levitating.
When picking up your broom... without your hands, step to the left side of your broom and with your right hand over the broom say "Up" You won't get it the first time but practice makes perfect. The force of the broom coming to your hand is by how much power you can muster. Anyways, after having it up mount your broom. But please keep you're buttock on the broom to keep from falling off... After that you will push off the ground slightly and levitate for a few seconds then lean forward and touch back down.

__________________________________

Flying Straight:

Use what you learned in the previous lesson to levitate on your broom again. Once on your broom you lean forward like you would do to land, but you would tilt back just a bit to get up into the sky. Once you have gotten there, you lean forward and try to keep your balance and fly straight.

Flying in Circles:
When you are in the air. Depending on which way you wish to go you can either lean left to fly left or lean right to fly right. The trick is to not lean too far to the left or too far to the right... you will fall off... ^_^ Anyways...

Past homework:
1.) What is the word that you say to get the broom off the ground?
2.) After you have the broom in your hand. What do you do next?
3.) What do you do to prevent falling off the broom?
4.) What do you do to get back on the ground?

__________________________________

1. When flying on a broom and flying straight what are the steps in that type of flying?
2. Contrast flying straight and flying in circles or curves. (at least 1 paragraph or 4-6 sentences.
