Final Fantasy VII

Squaresoft's first Final Fantasy game on the Playstation 1 has been called one of the greatest games of all time, and one of the worst by others. The same could be said about anything popular. You have the lovers and haters. I am a lover. But an honest lover.
In FFVII you take the role of Cloud Strife (Or whatever you want to call the kid) who starts off as a member of the rebel group AVALANCHE who are out to bring down a corporation known as Shinra. The story gets REALLY complicated, because I'm slow and stupid and can't keep up. But it is engaging and will have you wanting to play more to found out what happens.
Gameplay has you roaming mostly static but detailed areas as a pixelated sprite on the screen, interacting with other sprites or basically anything that isn't rendered with the backgrounds. Although it doesn't sound too fun, it just works for some reason.
Combat is fun and fast, and has that oldschool flair with new a new look. It keeps its roots firm and still has a new flavor to it. Limit Breaks (Special moves), Magic, and Summons feel great to pull off, and when you finally take down that boss, it's really satisfying.
Monsters are very unique in my opinion and fit in the Final Fantasy universe.
Characters, though others will think the opposite, are actually deep and interesting once you get to know their backstory, and you'll care about them and their cause.
Game time is insane, and I clocked in about 69 (Hehe) hours of playtime and only got to level 70 or so before beating the end game boss, WITHOUT getting a HUGE load of other hidden contant or leveling my characters all the way to 99, or 100, I can't remember which it was.
It's actually not a very hard game to find, take a trip to the mall and look around, or eBay and you'll find it. This game is worth adding to your collection.
9.5/10
