Guilds are really hard to advertise! My friend and I run a Nintendo DS guild, and we only have one member other than ourselves!

I'll move this topic to the subforum, so as to leave the main forum free. And hey, if you encounter anyone that needs help with math, point 'em here.
(I don't own a DS, so it does no good for me to join yours..)

Don't worry about joining mine, we've been doing pretty well advertising (the first person is the most difficult to get, after that, if you advertise diligently, more follow. At least that's what I heard at the Captain's guild XD).

Most of my time on Gaia will be devoted to my guild, but I'll help you out a bit!
I have a math question that I've always been curious about, but my teachers won't answer:
You know the whole triangle SSS, SAS, SAA, etc, right?
Why can't angle-side-side work (yes, I know that abreviates to 'a**')? Is there some mathematical reason it 'won't' work, or are teachers just funny about using a** as a formula?

What, for having two sides and an angle to figure out the other sides and angles? That'd be SAS...I guess they did it that way because of what you pointed out the abbreviation to be.

 With the SAS thing the Angle has to be in between the the two sides. But with SAA the side doesn't have to be in between the two angles. That's the way I understand it anyway. But why can't a** work... because even if you have two lengths the same and one angle the same it isn't necessarily the same (what's the proper word? I can't remember).
in this picture the first triangle is not the same as the second triangle even though they have the same 'b', (almost) the same 'a' and they both have a right angle.

You have two sides, each of which are equal, and one which is obviously not, but you only have the values of the two equal sides. The angle you are given is the one opposite one of the sides. The angle opposite the other side is automatically required to be equal to the one you are given. The third angle is then equal to 180-2A where A is the angle you are given. From there, you can solve the third side.

 The word that I was trying to think of was "Congruent". The two triangles in the dodgy picture that I drew did have two sides the same and one angle the same so that would be SAS but for the SAS rule to work you have to have the angle in between the two sides otherwise it won't necessarily be congruent. Like the picture.
