This is a post to make people ponder about the Debates between Atheists and Christians. I only want to show the Christians here that some of what they say and do is wrong, and show the Atheists here that even though we follow some invisible being, we do so because of the Lessons we learn from The Bible; the wisdom granted from reading The Bible, regardless of religious affiliation or not, is life changing. Please consider what I'm about to say. (And take a note that I've taken this from a previous post in a thread where no one paid attention to what I stated).
Christianity has taken several severe turns in the past, oh, since the Church started. The Bible is riddled with notes from the apostles to immature Churches that stray away from the true messages of The Bible. There have been problems with Christianity and its followers since the dawn of the Church. This must be taken into account.
Another thing that must be taken into account is the fact that you can not debate over something that we have no proof of. Neither side can hold up a reasonable debate against the other because both have such valid viewpoints (due to not being able to prove themselves) that it just ends up being an endless argument.
There is, however, an answer. And one that I hope will help people who read it, as well. A great number of times a poor user in this thread was bashed for her beliefs (well, not really bashed, but just argued with). That is wrong.
Arguing about it is wrong.
The Bible, regardless of whether God exists or not (and I do personally believe he does exist) is a text of religion and worship, yes, but something far more than that. It is pure unfiltered Wisdom.
If any person were to start following the wisdom, teachings, and lifestyle of early Christians--regardless of Religious affiliation--they would find that it would be very gratifying.
We are to keep an open mind, to live our neighbors, and to care for the poor and the lepers; the dying and the weak, the scum of the earth. We, as Humans, as people who follow the Law of Man (the idea that our morality separates us from nature) need to do this in order to find a sort of enlightenment, whether transcendental or not.
We should accept all opinions willingly, and share our own with a soft voice.
"We can do no great things; only small things with great love." ---Mother Teresa.
If we are to help each other, to be humble and humiliated, to actually follow a wise sort of stylization with our own lives, we should be first to love with an open heart. We must give grace wherever we can and show others that we are not someone who is spewing fire and brimstone or telling them they're going to hell. We must show them that our God is not one of vengeance, lightning bolts, or hatred. He is forgiving and loving. He is forever gracious with us. He does not want us to hate or debate; he does not want us to dismantle or destroy. He only wants us to spread love. To spread happiness. To make people smile. That is our mission. We are not meant to convert; those who do convert only do because they see our love.
If this endevor is to be successful we must trust in our faith (what we believe in, not neccesarely God) and we must trust in our community.
If we do these things, we have no problem with him. We must only believe. And that comes with time. Every person must RECOGNIZE THE FACT THAT PEOPLE HAVE CHOICE. They can choose whether to believe in him or not, and if they don't THAT CHOICE MUST BE RESPECTED. We shouldn't go around telling ANYONE they're wrong. We are all Human, and we must all be respected.
Another topic brought up is the idea that he lets these horrible things happen, and has the ability to stop them. Sadly, if you do believe in a Christian God, you also believe in Adam and Eve; they were given choice. This story, I believe, is not meant to be taken literally in some senses. It is a representation of Human life and how we are to live--we bit of the fruit of knowledge, and in so sacrificed our perfection. We are now spending our lives trying to attain that perfection--knowledge--and regain our standing in this world. We are set to endure the horrors, pains, and sufferings of this place.
However, we are also set to enjoy the happiness, the miracles, and the love. If we can spread these, if we can create these, then we can truly be happy.
In order to see God, one must only look at the poor, the dying, the lepers, the meek, the sick, the persecuted, and the hated. You must not only look, but you must give and help. In this, you will see the face of a God (or, if you do not believe, the face of Love itself) in a way you could have never comprehended.
It is in these things--this gift of our lives and time to these people and their plights--that bring forth small miracles. By doing this, you see things you thought not possible. This, my friends, is the goal of what Christianity is.
Wisdom.
Love.
Faith.
We must not continue to argue as we do; we must only continue to Love...
I recommend reading author Shane Claibournes "The Irresistible Revolution."
This book will help. . .
Thank you if you read this long post!
