Hey peeps, finally I'm searching for a new car.
So far in the works, I'm waiting on a deal for a 1966 Alfa Romeo GT Junior, only trouble is some difficulty with licences. :/
If all goes well, I should get the car, however I've just spotted a 1975 Gt junior wich may be a much sweeter deal for around the same price.
The '66 Alfa needs some work, and personally I feel is one of the best looking GT junior's. I'll keep ya'll updated. smile

Well I had a look at the 75 GT Junior, but it wasn't running.
I think I'll go for it if I like how it drives. Hopefully they'll get the car to run tomorrow, and maybe my father will get to drive it.
The car has better features and seems to be much more upto date than the 66 Alfa. I fear though that the 75 Alfa has more of a rust problem...

I didn't know rust would be a problem in SA, but if it is try for the less rusty vehicle. Its a pain in the a** to get rid of a rust problem then prevent it.

Well I got the '66 Alfa. Seems to be the less rusty one.  I live on the coast, so rust can be a problem on some cars. I think with my next project car I'll want to get it from Johannessburg, which is a big bad city in the interior of our country where rust isn't so bad. At the moment its sitting in the drive way waiting for me to finish patching up the floor. For the one hole, we hammered out the bad rust, then applied some chasis black. (A gooy kind of tar mixture). We put thick coats on around the hole and into the corners and on the underside of the pannel, as well as on the rust itself. Finally we screwed it into place and we are going to rivit it in before paiinting more chasis black over it. Does that sound like the wrong way of dealing with rust? My friend rekons I should've just had the pannel welded in. While my dad rekons this way will be just as good. more pics coming soon.

Cut out all the rust around the hole. If you don't, it'll just spread out again.
Sand the metal down to bare metal, and coat with a good quality rust-inhibiting primer.
From there, I could suggest welding in a new patch, and then priming and painting that with rust inhibiting paint. (or that goo s**t you mentioned.)
If you don't have acess to a welder, do everything above, but instead of welding in a new patch, rivit a new patch in, but make sure to coat all bare metal with primer or some other undercoating.

Yeah I like what Mael suggested. You have to make sure to clear out that rust. It can spread like an infection.
I never seen that tar goo you spoke of, but it sounds like a good idea for a temp patch until you can get it more professionaly done with welding.
But I must say that is a very sexy car! I'd be lucky to even see a car such as that one in my area. Best of luck on the patch work biggrin

Well most of the patches have been done. I just have one more that needs tending to.
Basically we sandwiched two peices of metal over the bad holes. One on the outside and one inside then bolted them up tight. As soon as it gets onto a lift, I'm going to break the threads off the bolts.
My dad managed to fit a side view mirror to the driver side door. It looks pretty good, but the visability it gives is pretty poor. But who cares its chrome. Now I gotta fit the passangerside one, wich is going to be a chore and a half with only a few inches of space to get my hand in, and bolt up the stupid mirror. sweatdrop

Found a nice healthy leak at the end of a monkey style clutch line thingy.
Wich saves me roughly seventeen hundred rand odly. So that line and all other hoses and such will need to be replaced.
Put a panel into the floorboards today, finally.
And I bought myself what appears to be a taxi style super loud pair of horns. I thought it'd be able to do the A-OOOGA sound...but alas it does not. That should go in soon.

Update:Since I last posted the car had given up. It lost compression on number 2 and 3 cylinders and just coughed and spluttered and caried on and doesn't want to go. Tantrums aside, we put the car into our offstreet parking and Bella had to sleep there till we could do something about it. We too off the head and sent that off to Carsport Hollan to get cleaned up and looked at. They've replaced the Valve Stem seals, set the tappits and fit 8 new valve guides. They also threw in a Decoke gasket set. Here are some pics.  pic 1pic 2pic 3It should all go in this weekend. I can't wait! mrgreen
