At what age should teens be able to get the morning after pill over the counter?

I, for one, think that they should be available at thirteen. Now, I'm not advocating that kids have sex at that age, but it happens. So, I think it should be made available over the counter then, because honestly-not all girls are going to wait until they're eighteen to have unprotected sex, and younger girls are going to screw up occasionally. So, yeah-make it available earlier, and maybe teen pregnancies will drop (I don't have evidence for this. Just a thought.). Also, teen sex before eighteen happens. Why shouldn't girls be allowed to get it then?

But when do you think it should be made available?

Birth.
Seriously.
They shouldn't have any red tape to cut through before being able to fix a mistake that one can argue was legal or not.

Ugh. I'm not a big fan of abortion, so as one can imagine, I'm not a big fan of this pill, either. But unfortunately, kids are putting out earlier and earlier these days. Thirteen is acceptable for me.

I don't know what to think about the MAP. I think that it is a good idea, but also a bad one as well. It is almost like a free pass to having sex. I'm sure that some people are thinking "I can have sex as often as I want because all I have to do is take a morning after pill and I'm good". So it kind of gives people an excuse to be irresponsible about sex. On the other hand, it is a good idea because if someone was being responsible, and say, the condom broke or something along those lines, the MAP would be an acceptable thing to use.

After that little rant, I guess I think that thirteen is a good age.

Thirteen's fine.
But you think a 13 year old is going to admit it? Do you think they'd even take it? Most teenagers think they're invincible.

It's called emergency contraception because it's for emergency use only. That's what birth control is for.

You can't have a 'free pass' for sex. Sex has many effects on you. Just because you don't get pregnant, doesn't mean sex is meaningless.

And people can have sex as often or as little as they want. Playing moral police is ridiculous. If you don't think people should have sex, you don't have to. Raise your kids how you want, but don't legislate your morality. This isn't aimed at Jadicyde, this is just a general statement.

As with anything, it could be abused; it might give young teens an even more severe sense of invincibility. They certainly don't need that.

I don't really understand for the need of an age cut off at all.
I doubt a ten year old would be buying bottles anyway.

I'm fully aware of the fact that it was created for emergency use only, but that doesn't mean that there are people out there that are using it instead of being smart about sex.

I also agree and understand with what you're saying about the effects of sex, my problem is that not everyone cares about the effects of it, and then they piss and moan when they get some disease instead of simply being a little more smart in the first place.

So you want MAPs to be unavailable to some people as punishment?

Who, me? No, I'm not saying that. I just find it annoying how people are able to use stuff to get out of having responsibility in general (personal story behind that that I don't want to get into).

So we should prohibit everyone under the age of 13 from getting it because some people are jackasses? What about rape?

People are stupid. It's no surprise that they have stupid sex. But that's their problem, not something we should be legislating.

So to make people more responsible, you're going to saddle them with children when they can't even make smart decisions about sex? Children should not be a punishment. If the US didn't have such a crazy attitude about sex, we could actually teach the facts about it. Yeah, it'd be nice if people used birth control, but I don't think that they should have to ruin their lives over a single mistake. Honestly, I think it's cruel to the prospective offspring of these stupid people to make them be born to morons.

I would never wish for someone to go through (what I imagine would be diffucult) pregnancy from a rape, nor would I wish for a child to have to suffer in life because it's parent(s) was too stupid to make a right decision. I fully agree with the fact that children should not be a punishment to the parents as well.

Then you should agree that an age limit on MAPs would not be help. Morning after pills are needed as soon as a girl can be pregnant.

Don't Family Planning centers hand that s**t out?
I got the impression they'd give you Heroin if it wasn't illegal.
