Have you ever called God by any name other than God?
Um...I didn't know there were other names.
  Of course....He proves Himself well.
  Nah...

In the Bible, God is known by different names. I am. Provider. Comforter. Love. Alpha and Omega. There are so many. So I was wondering, on a personal level, who is God to you? I mean, what name of His do you know Him best by. All the names I listed apply to the way I know God, but the name I know Him best as is...my Friend.

Not all Christians are the same. A great many are mislead and confused. Even a larger number incorrectly decipher and follow the scripture that they listen to. "Pop Christianity" is something that is very wrong. These are probably the Christians you're thinking of.

I myself have very rarely seen a true Christian. In fact, it's hard for me to even remember if I have or not. There are so few of them compared to the startling amount of people who blatently ignore the deeper meanings of scripture.

Oh well.

God can be referred to as Yahweh, the original name given in Arabic (I believe. Not sure, can't find a citation on that.)

I refer to him as God. Father. Yahweh. Whatever I feel like really. He's listening either way.

One sect of christianity will always say that another sect is wrong. Why? To gain more followers. In my opinion, a true christian is someone who takes what they want from the bible, preeches it, enforces it, uses it to their advantage and then be hypocritical about it later.

Then I guess you could say I am not a True Christian. I guess you can say those few who I think are real Christians aren't true Christians--merely Christians that were lead down the right path.

Read my thread, "True Christianity." I'd love to talk more with you.

I would but I really hate reading long posts that have just been copied and pasted here. If you posted it in the ED, that's fine. If you post it back in here without the rest of the argument, it's pointless.

Some Christians are hypocritical, but thats not the point. Its just one of the things that causes us to fall short. A true Christians is not a certain sect, but just the point that you follow Christ and TRY to be like Him. We will always fall short, but that doesn't mean that we aren't a true Christian.

Of course. I completely agree.

But I'm speaking of the people who are completely devoid of even wanting to follow Christ. Who spew fire and brimstone and condemn others based on their words or what they're wearing or what they do. Who don't even consider Love or Wisdom before they act.

Pop Christians have forgotten the notion of Forgiveness and have taken up the beliefs of Redemptive Violence: Something the writers of the scriptures would be very opposed to.

Again though, I agree. They are just mislead, as are a great deal many. Even I am mislead. I am still searching for the right thoughts and actions.

I have a great many bad habits I have to deal with.

But I do not give up the notion of Loving and being Kind. Of waiting, of giving; of showing my heart and listening closely; understanding and smiling.

I fluxuate between the really formal context of only using Him or He or the One, but then I also just call Him J-man or G-man. Kind of depends on where and when I am.

G-man. I love it. blaugh
I don't do anything fancy, I just keep it at God. I might go with G-man though because that just sounds rad.

from what i was taught there was not really a name for God, i specifically remember asking my grandmother God's name and she answered "God is" and that is all you need to know. obviously it left me with more questions than answers, but that is pretty much what i have believed and finally as i have gotten older have understood.

When i first started going to my church, I walked into Sunday school and my Sunday School teacher was like "so, what do you think of that JC?" I was like "huh?" And he said "Jesus Christ!" Like, duh! LOl. I can't believe I didn't get what he was talking about. At first I thought he meant someone from NSync or something...
