Story 7/10
Dragonball Z follows the TV series from the beginning of Z to the end of GT. The game also added in the movies, which amazingly, have been placed as if they were part of the series, making some sort of sense of how the fit into it. If you have played the previous games, the story isn't really new, but ti does follow it closely, which is a plus. The game also features four "What If" scenarios which are unlocked during the story mode. Its nothing new, but its not boring, so a 7 out of 10 for this part of the game.
Graphics 9/10
In my opinion, cell shading is the way to go when you're bringing a anime or 2D world into the third dimension. The graphics are crisp, animations are fluid, and the characters look right. Even characters have every detail they do from the show, such as Buu's "Getting steamed" power up, and Andriod 19's "Energy abosrbing gems" animation. The Maps look good, and the dust clouds that are sometimes created by a destroyed piece of terrain mirror the show, as the dust clears, you onyl see your opponent flying out of it at full speed. All 120 plus characters look great. A 9 out of 10 on this one.
Controls 9/10
The Wii port of this game, and it being a launch title, had me wondering what kind of controls it have. The game features Wiimote + Nanchuck or Classic Controller play. The Wii controls are wonderful. Using the A and B buttons to launch Physical and energy attacks, and the Z button to perform the signature "Power Up" with most characters. The C Button, when held, allows the player to flick the nanchuck up or down to fly or jump. The 1 Button, when combined with Control Stick directions allows characters to Transform or perform Fusion with others. The D-Pad allows you to defend, teleport around your foe, or dodge attacks, and when combined with other buttons, perform simple attacks like Solar Flare or Instnat Transmission.
The controls truly shine when you enter blast input mode. After you power up, holding the Z and B buttons allows you to perform the super moves from the series by doing hand motions. Need to do a Kamehame-Ha? Simply hold the buttons, then move the nanchuck and the wiimote to your side just like GOku would, then send them forward, just like in the show. Moves like Spirit Bomb or Baby's Death Revenge Ball require you to lift the Wiimote and nanchuck straight up, then to point it back at the screen. These controls just made my day when playing this game. a 9 out of 10 on controls, because sometimes the controls don't seem to register a flick of the nanchuck or a flick of the wiimote.
Overall: 9 out of 10. The Game has alot of fast paced action, along side with great controls and a massive cast of characters. Over 120 to be used! The graphics look crisp and the sound is great.
