I'd like to dedicate this review to the memory of my cousin, Dylan, who died in a car crash this year, 2007.
He was an avid gamer, and big fan of the Diablo series.

Diablo

Diablo was originally released back in 1996.
It was practically the first game of it's kind.
You are a hero, who sets out to delve the local Church through different levels, fighting monsters and demons, ultimately reaching Diablo and slaying him.
You choose between a Warrior, Rogue, or Magician, each has one different skill, and can specialize in different equipment. Though, all classes can use magic.
You begin in the town of Tristram, and meet the local populous. A variety of colorful characers who are fun to talk to.
There are heaps of items and equipment to be found, and tons of monsters to be slashed, shot, and fireballed.
The dungeon levels generate randomly, as well as everything you find in them.
Characters can advance from level 1 to 50, and can play the game at 3 levels of difficulty, Normal, Nightmare, and Hell.
Combat consists of clicking. Lots of clicking. But it's fast paced and satisfyng. Gameplay is simple, but addictive and rewarding.
Online play is phenomenal and fun.
If you can find a copy, I highly recommend adding it to your collection.
9.0/10
Diablo 2

In 2000, the sequel to Diablo was released.
It capitalized everything Diablo 1 had to offer, adding more classes, more monsters, more items, more NPCs, more areas, more quests, and more addictive gameplay.
The classes include Paladin, Necromancer, Sorceress, Barbarian, and Amazon. Each had their own abilities and spells, and three talent trees to specialize in.
You begin in the Rogue Encampment, fulfilling quests for the various NPCs you meet, and journeying to different lands, until you ultimately kill Mephisto and Diablo.
The game was streamlined much better, giving faster play.
Characters could now go from level 1 to 99.
It's pretty simple. Whatever Diablo 1 did, Diablo 2 did better, and added much more features.
A must-have.
9.5/10
Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction

The expansion pack to Diablo 2 adds one more Act, more quests, more monsters, more items, and 2 new Classes to play with, The Assassin and Druid.
In this final expansion, you quest and in the end, kill Baal, the last brother of Diablo.
It is everything an expansion pack should be, and should not be passed up.
8.5/10
With the Diablo Battle Chest set, you can own these three games AND a copy of the Diablo 2/LoD strategy guide for just $30. There's really no reason not to have them if you're a RPG fan. wink
