Prepare for your descent into Rapture!
Before I begin, I want to say that Bioshock really is quite an interesting game, and appeals to the creative part in each gamer.
Story 8/10
Your descent begins with your character sitting in his seat on a plane, smoking a cigarette, giving a small narrative on his family. suddenly the screen fades and you hear screams, and the sound of chaos. The screen fades in with you floating underwater.
Your character rights himself and begins to try and swim to the surface. As you rise, items draw your attention. A woman's handbag with a necklace, the internal blades of a jet engine. Your head breaks surface and you are surrounded in burning fuel from the plane. You begin to swims towards the opening in the flames, to your left the tail section of the plane is sinking, when suddenly a fuel tank explodes, sending burning gas flying through the air. You swim quickly to the only thing close, a towering light house in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.
Take a moment to catch your breath, dry off, and step through the large open doors. Don't freak out in the darkness, it'll be over soon. Listen to the small narrative and head down the stairs to the Bathysphere.
Hop inside, pull the lever, and enjoy the ride.
After the ride, and brief introduction to Andrew ryan and the city of Rapture, you'll get a small scene with an Aggressor, known better as a Splicer. you'll get a little tutorial on the movements, interactions, and other control basics. From here on out, you'll be guided by Atlas.
Gameplay 7/10
It's a very good game, but only good for one play through. You can do alot of what you want, but you are still hindered by the environment and uses, and your weapons are only as useful as you make them.
Most times, you can use your wrench, and plasmids to destroy the splicers you meet. sometimes, grenades and crossbow bolts will be good for defense.
The best time to use your weapons, is when fighting a Big Daddy or a boss. Bid Daddies are the mini bosses, or even bosses in some parts of the game. In the later part of the game, Daddies can thump you if not planned for.
Over all, it's a good game, but not as good as it possibly could have been. Multiplayer, more open gameplay, and maybe a little easier to follow story near the end of the game. The game is one large plot twist.
Overall score 15/20
Good, well worth a rent, but not something you'd want to buy. Rent it, borrow it from a friend, get it out of a bargain bin for twenty bucks.
