The Darkness is originally based on a comic book by Top Cow. The game is about Jackie Estacado a former orphan who is adopted by Paulie Franchetti. He grew up and became a mob hit man for Paulie. On his 21 birthday Jackie is betrayed by Paulie who tries to kill him. It just so happens on this day Jackie inherits a family curse. This curse is called the Darkness. So Jackie survives and decides its time to take over the family business.

The game takes place in modern day New York in some of the neighbor hoods like China Town. You get around by taking the subway. Inside the stations you can talk to some odd locals and obtain side-quests. Throughout the game your main enemies are Paulie's men and some bad cops working for Paulie. But later on in game you fight some WWII Nazis, but I'm not saying anymore to that. The weapons consist of normal guns like pistols and shotguns. And depending on where you are to a enemy up close you can perform a different execution move. But those aren't the best weapons, those are the Darkness powers. When you start you have one power, Creeping dark which is a tentacle head thing that you control and eats people. But as you progress and eat enemies hearts your powers get better. The last being a black hole that sucks in enemies and every thing around it. And then there are the Darklings little creatures you summon that kill your enemies. You can find little costumes that change there weapons, like a construction worker costume gives them a jackhammer.

The dialog is very good and at times funny. Such as the secrets which are in the form of phone numbers and you go to a pay phone and call them to get the unlockables like comic book covers. But back to dialog at no times is it cheesy. But they make the load screens funny at times with Jackie telling stories of his first kiss with a hooker. Oh did I tell you this game is REALLY not for kids they say the F-word like every five seconds and those executions can get pretty bloody and gory.

The few complaints are multiplayer as cool as it is too play as a Darkling it is the laggiest multiplayer around one laggy person makes the whole game laggy. Also the game is too short, I beat it in a day on Medium. And the final boss I killed with one hit.

I give this game a 8.75/10

Ich bin nicht gut....

From the videos I've watched it looks like a really basic shoot'em up with demons, but I won't be too hasty with my judgements. Yeesh, I have so many games to buy.

Nicht gut an allen.
