It must have been a day or so since Alex had found himself deep in a forest, without his beloved PBY, in a strange land. Truth be told, the fact that his plane was nowhere around was more bothersome to him. That plane was his life, or close to it anyways.

Actually, the treelimbs that seemed to find their way into him walking into was probably more bothersome in the here and now, thought. Alex's hair wasn't quite as cleaned up as he might hope, especially since a twig or two was still stuck in it.

His stomach grumbled a bit, having had not much to eat in the day since Alex had tried to find his way out of the forest. Sure, the few small pieces of food he had tucked away in his coat had helped, but those were gone, and now he was hungry once more. "Uh, thats just jahn*", he said, as he futilely checked his pockets once more for something to eat, and once more having his head meet one of the local tree limbs.

The sun was high and bright over the land, but in the Ironwood forest, only a small amount of light trickled down. Bird calls echoed through the trees.

Casually strolling through the woods, Edward Smith whistled a random little tune for himself. He was wearing his typical wool trousers and shirt, with his ax slung over his shoulder. In one hand he held a leather sling, for dragging firewood back to the forge.

He was looking around for the right type of wood; hardwoods that would burn longer, when he saw someone else walking through the woods.

"Oi! Hullo there!" It was always good to introduce oneself in the forest, lest there be a hunting accident or the like. Walking towards the other man, he got the sense that there was something...off about him. Edward couldn't tell through the foliage yet, though they'd be next to each other in a moment.

Maybe it was the fact that after all this time, the silence of the forest had been broken by someone other than himself, that made the pilot stand upright a bit more, brushing the twig and leaves from his hair as he walked over towards the voice.

"About time I ran into someone out here", he said to himself, as he tried to push the thoughts of his hungry stomach aside. As he moved out into the clear, the villager would probably notice right away that the person wasn't "local". The leather jacket, the design on his shirt, his pants, the metal and glass goggles he wore on his head, all of it would be like a big warning sign. But that didn't keep Alex from smiling.

"Listen, I'm a bit lost. You wouldn't happen to know where the nearest town is?" Actually, Alex would be more curious about Edward's rather old-old-old-old fashioned look but food and the desire to find a pay phone were bigger concerns right now.

He knew for sure something was off as soon as the man spoke. It was an accent he'd never heard in his life, not even when he lived in Wheatorn.

The appearance of the man was, to say the least, disconcerting. The coat looked to be made of leather, with a fur ruff around the neck. It was summer though; no need for winter clothes. The rest were things he'd never seen before, not even on a noble.

Setting the sling down, he gripped the ax haft tighter, ready to use it if necessary. "Lost from where, stranger? I ain't seen none like you around before."

"Where? Uh, well, I'm from Manilla, or at least thats where my company is." Alex scritches his head a bit and looks in his pocket for one of his wayward business cards. After a few seconds of realizing that he can't find one to give to the wood chopper, he shrugged a bit.

"But yeah, listen, I've been lost out here for a day or so, and as soon as I find out who drugged me, and tossed me out here. Although..." Alex was still wonder why someone would drug him. That would surely explain the funky dreams he had before he woke up, but it didn't explain why they didn't steal his wallet, or anything from his personage.

Alex just stands there, as he mulled the thoughts, but then shakes the thoughts aside. "Uh, sorry about that. Still feeling a bit odd since I got here. So yeah, about a town. You wouldn't happen to have a telephone where you live, would you?" Hey, there's a funny new word. Just don't try to ask Alex to explain what it is.

"Manilla?" Edward echoed. Not a town he was familiar with, though it could have been a recent settlement. "Never heard o' it." He said.

"Drugged?! What would someone be trying to kill ye fer?" He was skeptical. It seemed more like a story that was made up. Perhaps the man was out in the woods for a different reason. Maybe he was a thief. Edward looked around to see if anyone was sneaking up on him. No one.

He gave the man blank stare. "A tele...what was it ye said? What's tha?"

Alex frowned at the comments by the woodcutter. Part of him wonders if somehow he had been kidnapped and dropped in an Amish-run forest or something, but he didn't think Amish would run forests. Plus, the woodcutter didn't have one of those Amish outfits. "I don't know. Maybe someone just knocked me out or something. And... wait, you don't know what a phone is? Uh... great."

He thought a bit and shrugged, "Ok, how about just pointing me in the direction of the nearest town, or road or something. I'm gunna starve out here if I don't get something to eat. I'm sure I have a few dollars I could pay ya' for the info." The pilot turned his attentions to his pockets, and fished around for something maybe to offer the woodcutter, hoping something might be good payment. A few quarters, some chinese coins, a 500 Yen dollar. Nothing recognizable for the woodcutter, but perhaps something might be liked by him.

Knocked out sounded more likely, though he still an uncomprehending stare at whatever this 'phone' was. Maybe if he had been hit on the head, he was hallucinating? "Are ye sure you're alright lad? Your head alright?"

"Ah suppose I kin take ye to Loghedge." He eyed the strange currency. "Though I don't think you'll be gettin' anywhere with tha'."

"Huh? Oh." He puts the money back in his pocket, realizing he should have guessed that whereever he was, wasn't going to take the standard currency he was used to. Nothing else had made sense, why should money make sense? Alex dusted off his coat a bit, brushing off any leaves that might have been stuck on it and then looked back.

"Yeah, I'm ok. Just hungry. And still a bit confused about whats going on, but I'm betting some food and rest would help with that last part." It actually took Alex a second to realize that the wood cutter had offered to take him to some place called "Loghedge".

"A town? Thats great. Lead the way. It'll be wonderful to get out of this forest. Or at least it'll be better than getting hit in the head with all the tree limbs around here."

"Right. This way." He motioned with his hand. Picking up his sling again, he started to walk back towards town. He didn't let the other man get behind him though, instead letting the strange man walk more to his side. He still didn't trust the man.

They walked for a good ways, maybe close to a kilometer, before the forest started to thin out. "Might was well go to the Tavern. Get some sort of food, and mayhap see if anyone there knows sometin'.

It wasn't that bad of a walk, all things considered. It was sort of a walk but a lot less than he'd had to walk the day before, lost in the forest. "Ah, civili... zation?" He raised his eyebrow at the town's design, the architecture, the general look of folks around. This wasn't right. Maybe it was more like walking through a movie set, one that was far too real. Alex shook his head, as he tried to concentrate on the fact the wood cutter had mentioned food and getting help.

Food and help. It would be nice to have quite a bit portion of both. "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea." Alex sighed softly, as he made his way along with the guide towards the Tavern. He was tired and hungry, and he knew that sitting down to get some food would probably be one of the best things he could do to try and recover some of his strength. One could only hope.

Edward looked at him strangely, again. "Well, it's not Wheatorn or the like, but it's a good sized town. Not like living in a frontier village."

They'd reached the tavern; one of the largest buildings in town. A handcarved wooden sign hung above the door, a mug of ale painted on. Edward pulled open the door. "Well, come on in lad."
