Hey all!
This month's contest is a writing contest. There are two different categories you may enter in.
The first is a Fan-fiction category.
-You will write a short story (two pages minimum. Let's cut it off at, oh, say, 15 or so...) about your character.
-Does not have to be in continuity.
-Style is up to your disgression.
-Main character must be a character you handle in Kapow!.
-The title of the story is: "I Reached for the Stars."
The second category is a critical essay.
-Minimum two pages.
-You may take either a positive or negative view of the topic.
-Quoted sources must be cited at the end of the essay.
-The topic of the essay is: "How would the fan of today react to the storylines of yesterday?
You may enter either contest (or both) as many times as you see fit. Plagarism will result in bannination and mass shunnifying. The winners will be judged by me on various criteria including but not limited to:
Fan-Fic:
-Overall interest
-Character presentation
-Clear storytelling convention
-Spelling, grammar, structure
Essay:
-Relevance to the topic
-Thoroughness
-Reasoning towards a conclusion
-Spelling, grammar, structure

The winners of each leg of the contest will receive an August letter. As usual, the contest ends the day letters (supposedly) open, Aug. 25th.

Nice to know I'm not the only one who's struggling with the themes. I think I spend a sizable chunk of hours a day staring into space trying to come up with something. stressed

Praytell, good sir..when is the deadline for said writerness, and is one the limit we can submit?
Luckily, the parylization wave missed me by a few light years.

Entries will be due the 25th.
And, if you're having problems with the essay portion, my best hint would be to stretch your imagination and think what would have happened if the internet had been around about the time DC started replacing guys like Alan Scott and Jay Garrick, or Marvel decided to permanantly kill off Bucky, or DC sued Fawcett over Captain Marvel.
Think of the positives, the negatives, and come to a conclusion, either about fans in the past, fans of the present, comic companies and their reactions to fan input, or fandom in general. The point of the essay is to make you take a critical look at yourself as a fan in the perspective of the history of the comic industry. This isn't about taking popular opinion, digesting it, and spitting it out again for people to read and approve, or creating anything scathing about the state of the industry. Pure and simple, it's an exercise in giving yourself perspective.
